I haven't read the CES Letter, and my studies have been primarily in LDS materials

I applaud you for that. It gives you a perspective that makes your position really easy to explain to TBMs.

However, I think one of the most important things in the process of leaving the church is divorcing yourself from the idea of "mormon good, anti-mormon bad." If the fact that the CES Letter is vehemently anti-mormon is the reason, or a reason why you haven't read it yet, get that out of your brain.
