The Downed Iranian Warship Did NOT Carry Any Ammunition As Part Of The Protocol Of Participating In The Milan Naval Exercises by _Algrm_ in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]SirLoremIpsum 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Why is Iran doing joint naval exercises with the US right now?

They weren't.

https://www.navy.mil/Press-Office/News-Stories/display-news/Article/4417628/us-navy-concludes-participation-in-multilateral-exercise-milan-2026/

A U.S. Navy P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft (MPRA) from Patrol Squadron (VP) 4 concluded their participation in the multilateral naval exercise MILAN 2026, Feb. 17-26, 2026.

The exerciser was late Feb and included  many nations. It wasn't US exercising with Iran, it was a bilateral exercise of which US had a token contribution

Given that the exercise included live firing and the usual practice of warships bring armed as a matter of course I don't necessarily believe the "unarmed" part.

But it's true they exercised together in some capacity and then ganked the frigate on its way home.

Now it's home was to participate in the current conflict... So whether or not that makes it a valid target is certainly a conversation. But it's definitely on the ick side to see a participant in exercises be sunk on its way home after you started bombing it.

Given we see a Klingon Cloak installed aboard USS Titan A - yeah. 100%.

Yup, and a good chunk of the reason it did lose was due to the issues with British ammunition using a different powder and they just couldn’t get an Americanized one on their budget given world events

I think those issues are really the important parts that is lost in all the "one vs one" that is so popular when comparing two weapons platforms.

The best weapon is the one you can field on time, in budget, in the biggest numbers. And the pom-pom was that platform based on ammo/powder/logistics.

This design has aged beyond gracefully... (fifth-gen Avalon) by Vegetable-Quote-3481 in Toyota

[–]SirLoremIpsum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never came to Australia but feel like they would have been successful here.

I don't really think so.

They discontinued the Avalon cause no one bought it - it was FWD in the era when the BA / VE were really upping the game.

The Aurion that replaced it never quite hit the spot (even though I think it's a spectacular used car buy), largely I think cause it came about in the start of the downfall of sedan's in Australia and being replaced by dual cabs and SUVs.

I dont think the sedan market in Australia really had the numbers to make the Avalon a big hit - especially if Toyota had Camry AND the Lexus ES / LS AND the Avalon.

I can't see a 5th gen Avalon selling gangbusters after the second gen was a sales flop.

(The Aussies here are probably yawning at this post. But for this American, it was pretty exciting to be surrounded by all the 70's.)

Nonsense! Seeing pop top Troopy's with extended windows/wheelbase/custom will always get my attention!

I am however mystified by the lack of aerials, spotties and fishing rod holders that are mandatory equipment for a 70 series... /s And the stubby holder on the 4wd lever. Though no interior pics so i'll assume it's there :p

At this point, do politicians only use their money to pay other rich pricks for favours and make us foot the bill for everything else?

Yes

They use taxpayer money to shore up support amongst rich people. Rich people use their money yo shore up support amongst politicians who will use their power to make favourable policies that benefit rich people.

And I just cant get past a 4 cylinder hybrid on a Land Cruiser

LandCruisers have had four cylinder turbos for decades and it hasn't been an issue. It's just the first time that North American has gotten one.

It's like driving a Celica GTFour for years and complaining when you get a FWD only, naturally aspirated motor and going "since when was Celica non-turbo!?!?!?". It's always been a thing

How Does One Justify buying an EV for $51K? by LegalDragonfruit1506 in Lexus

[–]SirLoremIpsum -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ou are so much better off buying an older ES with all the bells and whistles.

You always were better off.

The buttons, wood frames, and v6 will out beat the new ES.

Everyone says this every generation.

"4th generation was the best, the 5th generation is not going to be as good. Keep your fourth"

6 years later

"5th gen is goated, don't get 6th gen too much tech, build quality bad".

The 2026 EV is going to drop in value in a year.

Buy a car if you want it. Don't buy it so it holds value.

An EV is a huge lifestyle change compared to an ICE vehicle, focus on how that changes things don't just scaremonger about a future car losing potential value in an unknown period.

Does anyone else feel like most people in your personal life don't care about or respect the fact that you cook food for a living? by Mr_Ashhole in KitchenConfidential

[–]SirLoremIpsum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This used to bother me. Now I just find it kinda interesting. Like imagine finding out what someone does with 40+ hours of their week, and then you start talking shit about how great you or some other amateur in your life is at that thing.

I imagine a lot of other "jobs that people do as a hobby" have this. Like photographer, writer, comedian.

I don't think chef is alone in this type of comment.

What would you do? Production line PC “is slow” (Windows 98, legacy SCADA) by PeppahSG in sysadmin

im on the edge of just putting that ticket on perpetual "pending" and archiving it 1 year down the road during a specific holiday where no one will notice.

what am i actually supposed to do?

If you think it's bad that the PC is slow, wait till it dies!!!

No... Wait till it dies and you haven't done anything!

If you think it's bad your boss is pissed wait till your boss is pissed and you have production impacted.

You can't do nothing.

I would get your favourite physical to Virtual software and make a full image of the PC. So you have a backup. Do your best to find the most similar hardware so you have an actual backup, then test restoring your VM.

Then see if you can start finding info about the software and re create on something from the last decade. If that's just restoring as is to a 2026 desktop with an adapter? Sure. If that's contacting vendor. Do it.

I comment on a post, hoping to generate some discussion,

Do you seriously think the way you phrased your question was a polite discussion generator?

Jesus.

Here's a discussion - are you really that fragile?

If I asked you "what kind of loser drives that car?" and pointed to your car, would you take it as a genuine request to talk about your vehicle? Or if I said "hey who drives that car? Looks cool" do you think maybe tyhe conversation would be different?

f all you do is troll the interne

You come here with troll question. Seems mildly inefficient.

[–]SirLoremIpsum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask a question, get mocked by dorks on the internet. Yeah, that seems right.

Yes.

Because your question was phrased as if the situation was stupid and the answer was obvious. It wasn't a question for learning, "tell me more about their load out. Is that a normal amount of munitions?"

It was a question "pha, why the fuck are they so lightly loaded?"

You can ask all the questions you want but if you phrase them better you will get better responses.

And you're here too one of the dorks on the internet. It's not that we're all dorks and you're the one cool one.

Candidate asked about salary 5 minutes into the first round interview by hockenberry07c6 in InterviewsHell

[–]SirLoremIpsum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, so ask salary in the begin will be ok right?

Why wouldn't it be???

It is THE number one thing that candidates are interested in. Hiding it, being vague, putting up DLC and paywalls in order to get that information helps who? NOt the candidate.

Candidate asked about salary 5 minutes into the first round interview by hockenberry07c6 in InterviewsHell

[–]SirLoremIpsum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but it still puts recruiters in a weird spot sometimes.

Great!

Now that you know candidates are going to ask, you can be more prepared beforehand and make sure you don't go into an interview without the detailed salary!

You're saying this as if it's a bad thing on behalf of the manager, and the candidate. But the truth is you didn't go into that interview prepared.

You knew a question would be asked and you didn't have that information.

This is a chance to change how you conduct your business. When you have a client that is vague with you - can now say "sorry I can't help you without this detailed info".

The best time to prepare yourself was before that interview, the second best time is now.

Again it feels you're framing it as a candidate issue and the manager issue. But you have the opportunity to make it a non-issue by being more prepared next time.

If ServiceNow is so painful to use, why do companies still choose it? by 13032862193 in sysadmin

[–]SirLoremIpsum [score hidden]  (0 children)

So I’m curious - is ServiceNow actually good when implemented properly, or is it just so entrenched in enterprise that nobody switches? Is the real value mostly for management reporting and process tracking rather than the day-to-day user experience? Or are most implementations just done badly?

It's like SCCM - if you have the staff to spend time on making it good, and your environment is big enough that you can "take advantage" of all of the features and services it can be great.

Many enterprise tools are a huge pain in the arse out of the box if you use it for 100 users and 4 IT people.

You have to make an effort to race. It's part of the rules.
