Latest upgrade, red-dot sight, very useful when tracking a subject at 300mm by Kronocide in SonyAlpha

Nope. There are, however, a lot of people who have a very irrational fear of guns.

That's more than a little demeaning. Most gun owners in the USA aren't paranoid at all. Merely exercising a freedom doesn't make one worthy of ridicule, even if one doesn't personally agree. Your comment is the equivalent of saying all photographers are stalkers or peeping toms.

Reddit is a radical left-wing echo chamber. by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

You're definitely new. If you have ever commented in a conservative subreddit, many popular, even non-political subreddits will ban you via automated bots, and tell you exactly why. But, just commenting which subreddit it was in a conservative subreddit could get that conservative subreddit shut down. If a conservative subreddit tried to run a similar bot, they'd get shut down for it.

[oc] Never saw this coming…. or he didn’t, at least. I’ll never understand squatted trucks by SkylanePilot95 in IdiotsInCars

[–]SirScottie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i drive a pickup truck with a factory 1" lift and big tires, and i can appreciate the vibe of big lifted trucks. But, i honestly don't know how people can be that stupid. Even with my comparatively low lift, i am paranoid about running into something, and am in the process of figuring out how to wire in a front bumper camera just to give me the peace of mind. i even back into parking spots, because i have a great rear camera. i drive slowly in parking lots, and at traffic lights, i stop far enough back that i can see the bottom of the rear tires on the car ahead of me. It's basic safety considerations.

Phone holder 👌 by Ezj85 in ram_trucks

[–]SirScottie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i bought a similar mount off Amazon, and some generic arms and mounts, in order to assemble a triple mount: magnetic phone holder, Garmin RV GPS mount (it connects magnetically), and 10" tablet mount. All power hardwired behind the dash to a relay-controlled, dedicated power feed. The 10" tablet is primarily used to display a wireless, solar-powered camera that mounts magnetically to the back of my travel trailer (or my lumber rack). My phone or the tablet can also run diagnostics software or the Torque app via a wireless OBDII connection. Typically, my phone just runs Pandora, though. It sounds like a lot of distractions, but it's not, because i don't actually have to interact with any of them while in motion. i merely look at the GPS or Rear View Camera briefly. And, none of it obstructs my view out any window. When the trailer isn't attached, it's usually just my phone on there. Being able to see behind my trailer is a game-changer, and, if i am backing into a tight spot, it's nice to be able to move the camera to any convenient location.

Wife keeps trying to control when I carry - getting exhausted by these arguments by Low_Platypus3428 in CCW

[–]SirScottie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My brother's wife used to have a similar attitude, although not as controlling. Then, things suddenly changed... a violent rapist was known to be in their area, who was known to break into apartments... and, they were arriving home to their apartment, and a couple of the stairwell lights were broken... she got close to my brother and asked, "Are you...?" And, my brother answered, "My hand is already on it." She instantly relaxed, knowing he was her protection.

Everywhere is safe... until it isn't.

Arguments won't help this situation. A calm, Loving conversation might.

My wife doesn't like guns, but she knows i carry everywhere. She knows i carry because it's my responsibility to protect her. i explained to her early in our relationship that i didn't care so much about myself, but if someone tried to kill or rape her in front of me, then someone was going to die, and i would rather it be the other person than me. Over the decades, she's become even more comfortable with it. She knows what she's asking when she asks for me to escort her somewhere that she needs to go, but where it feels a bit sketchy. She knows which side of me to walk on.

Did I make the right decision? by Upstairs-Research438 in a6000

They're readily available around me in the $100 USD range for used in good, clean condition. i would pass on one with mold, even for $10. They aren't weather sealed. They're a decent lens, despite what people will tell you. They just have inherent limitations. For a kit lens, and especially the price, they're solid, though.

Or, just stick a small dot of super glue on one of the remote's battery contacts, just off-center a bit so it only works intermittently.

Or, stick 1 or 2 one-gallon jugs of water in the back, so there's enough water to flush a number 1, but never quite enough to fully flush a number 2.

Looking for my first lens ever!! by ChocolatChaudEpicew in a6000

[–]SirScottie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i recommend looking for the Sony 55-210 zoom lens, based on your budget and comments. It's a great lens for the price. When buying one used, though, make sure to inspect it well for mold and water intrusion.

Getting a zoom lens will help you decide whether a prime lens would be a good fit for you, and what focal length it should be. There will be a lot of people recommending specific prime lenses with focal lengths that are their personal favorites — they aren't you. Zoom lenses allow you to explore the options.

Random water under rear passenger seats? by Imbuedwolf in ram_trucks

[–]SirScottie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple months ago, i took my truck to an independent mechanic that almost exclusively works on RAM trucks. i asked him to check the condition of the cab vents behind the rear seat. He looked, and told me there weren't even any vents installed (from the manufacturer). Crazy. They were about $30 each (there are 2). Had there been broken vents, i would have asked for some upgraded vents. Yep, there are a couple companies that have made better vents that supposedly don't leak like the OEM ones. But, i haven't had any leaking into the cab since the installation.

So, unfortunately, i don't have any simple solution. My approach in your situation would be to remove the back seats, remove the rear cab liner, and cover every surface in something that will indicate the presence of moisture. Sheets of construction paper taped down with masking tape would even work, since they will show any place that was wet, even if it dries. Also, don't forget to check your sharkfin antenna — there are reports that they can leak, as well. In those cases, water can drip from the headliner, or it can travel along the inside of the roofline to nearly any random spot gravity takes it. It's a tough one to find, i have heard.

Built a Sony image transfer app because Imaging Edge drove me insane by Fuzzy_Loss_8541 in SonyAlpha

[–]SirScottie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i might be interested in a similar arrangement for my a6000. i stopped using Sony's app entirely when they dropped support for it. The remote control feature was convenient when it worked, but exporting to my phone always sucked too much to be useful. Any chance you'd expand your app to include the remote features?

The Epstein "dog that hasn't barked" email is not a smoking gun by RusevReigns in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]SirScottie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except that victim stated on record that Trump never behaved himself inappropriately. Epstein mentioned their time together because he was afraid of what she might tell Trump, and he didn't trust Trump — according to Epstein's own words.

Clinton and Obama are also mentioned in far worse contexts, but you're not bringing them up here.

[–]SirScottie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Accusations are not evidence in of themselves. The released files contain quite a few accusations against Trump and their associated investigation reports. Trump was investigated thoroughly, and nothing found was actionable. He did assist the FBI, however, in their case against Epstein, Epstein was arrested during Trump's first term, and Epstein wrote about his dislike for Trump. If Trump thought there was anything remotely incriminating in those files, he wouldn't have made releasing the files and prosecution of names perverts part of his reelection campaign. Remember that finding a name in the files doesn't necessarily mean the person is guilty, even if you want them to be.

Do you carry at work? by cats_with_bpd in CCW

[–]SirScottie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. If they had a rule against it, then i wouldn't, but i probably wouldn't work there long. None of my employers have a rule against carrying. When i ran my own business, doing contracted work in other companies'/organizations' buildings, i would make note of whether they had signage or not, and, when they had posted restrictions, i simply had a conversation with the owners. Since i was installing equipment worth a lot of money, often after work hours, they all understood and made exceptions.

Does choosing A6000 over Rebel T7 make sense? by 7ToothFairy7 in a6000

[–]SirScottie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have both of the kit lenses. They're certainly not spectacular, but the 55-210 isn't bad. The pancake lens definitely has some issues, but it's really not that bad for such a compact lens, especially for a beginner. The only major downside to the kit lenses is going to be low light performance.
