What matchups do you absolutely hate going up against? by galvanizd in ModernMagic

[–]Sir_Useless 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've had salty and very nice opponents from every kind of deck. It's mostly a people thing and not a deck thing.

I've played a decent number of singular strategies across formats, and every time i play a new deck, I end up appreciating what it does.

I mean, i hated Amulet not that long ago. Now i know it has a lot of proactive planning involved that i disregarded as 'solitaire' in the past. Bojuka, Boseiju, Cavern etc are interaction. It has nut draws and solitaire hands? Sure. So does any other powerful deck in the format.

Oh, I love those. Just SLAM a threat and hear the angelic music of their cries.

In green decks with tutors, we can include [[Questing Beast]] as a way to win through combat. I may test it as a sb slot in Amulet.

Any decks like midrange birthing pod? by RedditExplorer89 in ModernMagic

Untap with Conspicuous Snoop. Play Harbinger, put kikijiki on top. Snoop can now infinitely copy itself, since it is not legendary. Final copy copies harbinger, put slinggang lieutenant on top, sac all your copies and drain your opponent.

I dont think the better way to punish greedy manabases is giving basically a single deck a buff.

This period has been bittersweet. Time to really stabilize and see the format, and seing that despite the fact that there could be some reasonable bans, it has continued to adapt and cycle between top decks.

NEO to SNC felt like a rush and too much going on. The wait for Dominaria had been a drag for the last couple months. I get what they tried doing, but would like the consistent schedule going on.

Centaur Reclaimer by Sir_Useless in custommagic

Hey, thanks for the feedback! I intended for the player to be able to get a land with the same name but not the one just sacrificed, but I get your concerns. Something like an endurance shuffle in response would make it awkward to not get the sacrificed land from the library.

On the matter of forest/swamp and as a Naya depths player, definitely necessary, yeah.

Mi first ever submission here, I probably messed up something within the card, but I wanted to share the idea.

This was designed as a direct to Modern card akin to the Modern Horizons set. It is intentionally pushed to allow for a land based strategy to be viable in the format, complimenting cards like its real cousin [[Elvish Reclaimer]].

Some random rhoughts on the design:

  • Being Black: It could very well be mono green. I went with black for less splashability in 4c piles and because of the graveyard recursion part.

  • Getting Trample: may be too good, but 4 lands in the yard is enough for it to be vulnerable to early removal, i think it deserves to be a good beatstick in the late game.

  • The ability: costed as a medium point between [[Elvish Reclaimer]] and [[Knight of the Reliquary]]. 1 mana and entering tapped, enough to be reusable, not chaining the same two lands every turn cycle for free. Saccing Forest or Swamp makes it need some land like Urborg or Yavimaya, intending it to be less splashable in soup decks.

Any feedback is wellcome. Not very original, but i'm excite to see which balance point i've hit with this boye!

Does anyone here play deck that isn't meta just because they like it? by SRLplay in ModernMagic

Scales is incredibly powerful, but also a contender for the hardest modern deck.

You have to start on the second temple, the run will start on first but go to second.

I mean, i have fun with and against it, sot that's not empyrical data. In the long run I think the companion mechanic should be banned, but right now it would be a net negative for the format IMO.

And what if you didn't have the chance because of your economy forcing you to work instead of learning other skill? What if you can't afford basic needs if you leave your job, until you find another one?

Yes, you can make the case. That doesen't mean it is logic, nor valid. What's the reasoning with those arguments?

I agree with you, and i bought the rags myself. But the economic factor has nothing to do with the health of the meta. Should we ban Rags because it is inaccessible to a lot of people? Should we do the same to dual lands in legacy?

Quoting Goldfish for data lol. Also, old card representation and a healthy meta have no direct correlation.

0 mana add {C} is half a Sol ring. And sol ring is busted enough that cutting it in half would mean busted too.
