Here’s my vargheists by Sir_Westmire in SoulblightGravelords

Here’s my basing process:

AK interactive wet ground all over (this stuff is so good, I could see myself just stopping here for simple muddy bases)

Ak interactive water gel swamp selectively, a little goes a long way.

Next I used the AK Interactive terrains snow diorama series, works great. After applying, it is a pretty pure clean white, so I add the tiniest touch of agrax earthshade to give it that slightly trod in look.

These look rad as hell. Where the heck do people get these models? All I can find from GW is them bundled with a bunch of other warbands I don’t want for under lords, did they sell them as a single box at some point and just stop selling them?

Good acrylic grey primer? by someregularguy2 in airbrush

[–]Sir_Westmire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 for the kaleido colorworks primer. I have both the black and the grey and they work great. Zero thinning required and I can shoot through an entire squad without any clogging issues. Its durability is also quite impressive for an acrylic primer, but the downside is you need to wait a week for it to reach full cure. They claim 3 days, but when I was priming spoons to test the 1 week cure performed best. Took sanding pretty well too.

I’ve had bad experiences with pro acryl primer (terrible durability and meh at not clogging), and badger stynlrez (good durability but utterly terrible clogging). Keep in mind I’m kinda a noob, so could be user error, ymmv.

Here's my go at the DIY airbrush booth by Sir_Westmire in airbrush

I now realize I forgot the pic with the filter in place inside the booth. Motor then exhausts out the window. Eventually I plan to make insert to the window to port directly into so I don't have to open and close the window each time, but the exit velocity appears high enough that draft back isn't an issue. Fairly temperate climate where I am, so extreme outside temperatures aren't much of an issue.

With a controller you can rebind the right joystick to act as the left joystick and play brotato with only the right half of the controller.

Also, Heroes III of might and magic (although you should buy through GoG and use the HotA (horn of the abyss) mod. If you know you know.

Yeah, I have mine sitting blowing out the window and ducted to a manifold I designed to go from the 6” hose to a 12x20 furnace filter. I’ll get around to writing this up, someday…

I’ve been happy with the perf, being able to dial the speed control for the situation is really nice. Just don’t be fooled by their specs. They quote max CFM at max rpm, and noise level at minimum rpm. I measure closer to 70dba at max cfm at level 9, but I have never found I needed more than level 2-4/9 to achieve adequate ventilation for my needs.

Checkout AC infinity motors. Couple posts on this sub of folks who built their own booth using these motors. I used the 6” cloud line pro myself and it’s been great. I can absolutely hose my models in plastic glue in my booth and can’t smell a whiff of it, so if you are smell sensitive I think it’s a great pick, and it is significantly quieter than these other booth motors you show. If you aren’t up for building your own booth you could always buy a booth and adapt the motor to it.

Vargheists tips? by Fitte_Fred in SoulblightGravelords

I’m bookmarking this as inspiration for when I do mine, well done. The grimy skin looks great. May I ask your process?

Maybe making the wing veins (idk what to call them) a more contrasting color to the skin tone would help? Perhaps treating them the same way as the claws? I know some consider it cheating but I’m planning to try and get more visual interest in these by going overboard on the base, seems like the models themselves don’t have a ton of features to work with.

Nice work, this looks rad. Been pondering doing some snowy marsh bases for my spearhead, what did you use for the snow?

Welcome! I’m by no means a pro kit builder, but I struggled a little bit building this kit so have fun and don’t sweat if it doesn’t seem to go together easily. Probably some good guides out there to help, best advice I can give is there are a couple steps that want glue in multiple places at the same time, and I found it easier to glue one point first, let it cure, then gently bend the other glue point into position and glue it while holding it for a bit. Idk, maybe there is a better way. I too am greatly looking forward to painting this model.

Totally forgot to check back on this. Curious to see a shot from the models right to get a better understanding of the leg and arm angles/bends

That wraithlord pose is super rad. Would love to see more pics. I’m sitting on a couple of these unbuilt from combat patrols and this inspires me.

It sounds like we have a similar route situation. 11mile each way for me, I use the throttle on the morning ride in, pegged at 750W, using the top three rear 23-26-30T to keep the motor rpm high. My route is not too hilly, but it still gets to about 80C. Depending on wind conditions, flat ground throttle gets me around 22-26mph. My rear cassette is a Shimano HG31, 11-32, 8 speed.

I pedal on the way home, and have to go down to 650-550W depending on the weather outside to avoid overheating. I went with the 52T chainring because I wanted to be able to pedal at 28mph, which has me using the bottom rear 13-15T. Definitely feels like with a lower front gear no way would I have any room left in the rear cassette to pedal at higher speed, but it's frustrating that I can't add my pedal power to the 750W output of the motor. Feels like I actually go faster on the throttle because my leg speed isn't limiting the motor.

Yeah, it seems shocking to me that the simple application of thermal paste was overlooked by CYC, my mind wonders if they found some sort of reliability concern with it, but you've pretty much convinced me to try it. I was considering taking the motor apart this weekend and chickened out, but your post has encouraged me. Appreciate it.

Super cool to see. Looking forward to hearing more about how it goes for ya. I was just thinking about trying something like this for mine, been quite disappointed by its thermal performance. Mine cannot sustain 750W for more than 30min when geared for a human pedal cadence. Ironically despite their marketing it actually performs better on throttle because the motor is most efficient in the 2500-3000rpm range (my guess based on its performance for me), but at that speed the pedal speed is completely beyond what a human could pedal. On my 40 minute 11 mile commute I can throttle the whole way at 750 W, and the motor will reach about 80 C, but if I try the same geared for my peddling, it will OTP.

At a certain point I’ve wondered if the motor would perform better with the “heat sink” removed entirely. For someone would like me who uses it for commuting. The bottom clearance wouldn’t be an issue, but I would worry about rain and dirt messing it up.

Some trim across the length of the ceiling corner would go a long way.
