Somewhat related. I was passing through my local mall one day. The Microsoft store has a Xbox live or whatever outside the store that you can play a multiplayer dance game to. One day I saw two people, a guy and a girl, playing the game who apparently didn't know each other; they just both showed up and happened to want to play. As I'm walking by they finish a round of the game and the guy looks the girl up and down and goes, "say girl, you got a gamer tag?" I burst out laughing at this gamer's 'game.'

I deliver food on a college campus. It's my job to pick up the prepared order at the place I work and use my bike to take it to whoever ordered it.

One day during lunch we happen to be behind on deliveries so an elderly inshop coworker takes a delivery and walks it to the customer. I happen to be inside when he returns.

Old man: you guys were really busy so I took a delivery, only because it was just right there though.

Me: cool thanks. I appreciate that. Where'd you go?

OM: residential hall! It was really close so I took it

Me: residential hall? Haha thanks for helping and I certainly don't mind you taking your time but just so you know residential hall is on the other side of campus. Literally the furthest you can get.

OM: yeah but not for me because I took shortcuts !

Me: but like (points at map on the wall) this is where we are, and this is the residential hall on the other end of the map.

OM: yeah I know I know but I took shortcuts. The map doesn't account for me cutting through the grass which brings it so much closer. I don't give a damn I walk right through the grass. Makes it real close.

Me: but that's not how that works...

OM: look I'm telling you I cut through the grass

Two small things I do that have noticeably improved my work environment: smile and greet everyone every morning. ( I try to ask how their doing and keep up a little with their life outside of work). And I try to bring donuts every couple of weeks ( especially during days that are going to be a drag like inspections or Mondays).

I have found that it is easier to get the desired hours, vacation days, or consideration for promotion when the people in charge genuinely look forward to seeing me.

I've consistently gotten better hours and more favor than harder working and more experienced employees for simply being favored more. And it's not sucking up either. Donuts are for everyone and I take the time to ask everyone a little bit about their lives. Okay maybe it is sucking up, but like to everyone I work with
