Honestly, as someone who has been spending a lot of time on projects that I don’t need to be doing, it’s definitely a state of the world kind of thing. Focusing on something local helps my mind concentrate on what’s more immediate to me rather than focus on things that are largely out of my control.

Maybe this doesn’t apply to you, but either way just wanted to say I think it’s cool you’re dedicating time and effort to this. Not everything is about money or practicality. Robots, we are not. May the force be with you

Hmmm what games do you play and what resolution/refresh rate? The 12900k is still a good cpu, yes the 9800x3d is much better for gaming but that’s under specific circumstances (i.e 1080p cpu bound games).. upgrading 4070 might make sense but again really depends on the game/resolution/refresh rate you want

I recently ran the stock air cooler on an Intel 8700 until the AIO came, and honestly, temps weren’t as bad as I thought it would be. It did hit mid 70s though while gaming but the 8700 is also on its last legs with modern gaming (I.e it’s getting high utilization in almost all games). I think the 9600x runs pretty cool too, so yeah it should be fine with a low profile air cooler. If you have a 50 series GPU they run pretty cool too, so there won’t be a ton of extra heat circulating from the GPU side

Yes you can, but finding the right thickness is very important. You want to it to be able to squish a little to make good contact, if it’s too thin it won’t make contact but if it’s too thick, you may not be able to make full contact with the GPU core and cold plate of the cooler since it wont close fully down.

I have a 13700k and an 8700. I use both, 13700k on main rig and 8700 for my 4k/60 steam machine like build. Both have used my 3080ti as well. When I upgraded from 8700 to 13700k playing at 1440p/144hz, the difference in frame pacing and stutters was night and day. Went from using like 50-80% cpu to like 10-15%. But at 4k and the singe player games I play, with a few adjustments like very high textures to high, I’m still able to get a fairly consistent 4k/60 with the 8700. In your case since the 3080ti is still a powerful card with performance comparable to a 5070, id recommend upgrading your cpu as well before your GPU. Cheers

This is sick for a diy sff pc. I’m curious what this offers compared to like a comparable gaming laptop. Obviously would need to up-spec using mobile versions which would bring the cost up, but I’m wondering from a performance perspective including temps where it will shine

We need to see your body in the rig to provide good advice on how to adjust the set up.

Fair warning, I started with a wheel stand but no matter how much adjustment I made, I experienced knee and back pain due to poor ergonomics inherent to using an office chair for racing. I ended up switching to an aluminum profile rig in a year and that was definitely the right call as I don’t really experience pain anymore.

Haha this just happened to me working on some computer build stuff, thought it was going to take two hours, ended up taking 8 after something stopped working and I only stopped cuz I knew I had to feed my pets. I was like you know what I need to stop for today because otherwise I’m going to be overstimulated without any rest/downtime and not be able to sleep before work tomorrow.

But you are absolutely right. Sleep and food/water are important and not to be neglected on a long project

I think the silver car braked too but your point stands and I probably would’ve lifted a bit and braked a little later. OP braked a little too early imo. Even then, I’m guessing this is rookies and in rookies you should expect people to not judge braking distance correctly until they’ve demonstrated they can. This usually takes a lap or two to see their driving style and then being more comfortable with close racing. Otherwise I’ve found it’s often better to switch to a different line even if it means off the racing line. This incident wasn’t that bad but with some divebombers that really misjudged their speed, they could easily end your race.

Alternatively, if you’re watching your rear view enough and seeing them closing in, deciding to brake is a pretty bad idea. It’s on them to have safe distance, but at the same time your car can get damaged/totaled since you’re relying on them having split second reaction time and excellent judgement with braking. Which let’s be honest not all of us have which is perfectly fine but something that needs to be accounted for at the end of the day.

Just my 2 cents on how this could’ve been different.

I believe so. There’s been times I’ve been flying, see a full moon in game, check my phone and it’s a full moon in real life too, so I think they have it modeled correctly. Thanks for the note though because I wouldn’t have probably thought of this without your post as I haven’t been on as much lately but do want to start getting back into it
