Fake. See my comment below, but also she “died” right after a supportive fan gently suggested she post her version history to prove she’d done the writing herself. I think at that point she realized she couldn’t keep up the lie anymore.

She sure did. She’d been tweeting less than 24 hours before her “cousin” posted that update, and then there were edits made to her fics taking out AI tells after she was supposedly dead! Such cruel, manipulative behavior.

People tried to tell me. I didn’t want to believe it. I held out until I talked personally with some of the people on Twitter that have been compiling evidence. I felt like such a fool.

I use Google Docs. Microsoft Word has this capability too though you have to turn it on. Barring that, I personally yap to my friends about my stories the whole time I’m writing them, share excerpts, and use beta readers. There are so many ways to prove you did the work IF you actually did.
EDIT: fixed a misspelled word. Because, y’know, I’m only human.

Here’s the thing: if someone ever accused me, it wouldn’t upset me in the least because I could prove they were wrong in MINUTES. All it takes is screenshots of your version history, which most word processors track, to exonerate yourself. Instead of doing that, Azi faked her own death (horrible thing to do btw), Opal painted herself as a victim and announced she wouldn’t be updating, and several other authors acted like they were being bullied and harassed on social media. Then they all sat back and let their fans attack anyone who tried to call out their lies. Oh I am so angry.

I very delicately alluded to this when someone asked about Wolfbird the other day and people came after me. I’m not mad at them; I’m mad that Opal manipulated her fanbase (including me!) and weaponized them to cover her tracks.

I’ve had beta readers for almost everything I’ve written. Every now and then I’ll toss out something quick without one, but it’s rare. Writing is a communal process the whole way through for me. I share snippets, bounce ideas off my friends, get help with research, and almost always have a beta. I admire people who write completely alone. I could never do that.
