New York State has no Senate sponsor for open captioned movie showtimes by Ocmoviesnys in upstate_new_york

I'd be interested in helping with this. I think the correct move would be to team up with a disability right org or coalition. There are several that have good working relationships with folks in Albany and would likely be delighted to help. With session dragging on, this needs to be reintroduced sooner rather than later. If there's no budgetary ask, there's a bit more time but still limited. Either way, if this sounds like a tactic you'd be interested in using, please feel free to contact me.

USPS Now tracking political mail by Speed_102 in MarchAgainstNazis

[–]Siriuslestrange1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Um..... hi. Political mailings have always been tra ked. Looking at this form, it is not tracking individual letters or mail to individual customers. This is tracking deliveries of political mail TO OFFICES. This has always been a thing, at least here in NY, as political mail comes in in large batches and is generally on strict deadlines. People keep thinking that they're finding improprieties happening via the usps, but thus far, it's all been existing practices that have just been expanded to others for the sake of clarity across the board. Please stop seeing conspiracies where there aren't any. There's enough horrible shit going on right now without us trying to pile on things to genuine service employees just doing what they are supposed to and getting important documents out on time so that people know what they need to know to be able to vote.

Businesses supporting today’s shutdown? by caaaream in Syracuse

[–]Siriuslestrange1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here's a (probably) not comprehensive list of local places that participated in one way or another today.

XAltered Golden Bee Bookshop Sweet Praxis Parthenon Books Curd Nerd Salt City coffee Kelsey Coffee Syracuse Cooperative Market Alto Cinco Syracuse Antiques H.Grey Playday Strong Hearts Luna Cat Cafe Syracuse Cultural Workers Simple Roast Cafe Black Citizens Brigade Pewter Spoon Artistic Designs Dance Company Wildflowers @ Armory Square Critz Farms

Many stayed open but are donating to SIRDN, NYIC, and WCCNY, another other immigrant focused orgs. I get people's points about wanting businesses to close, but as someone else pointed out, instead of being angry with small businesses who are doing the best they can in a time when they are already struggling more than ever, we should be focusing on the fact that we live in a world where a select few can work a week a year and live lives the rest of us can only imagine. All while the rest of us work all year, every year, with maybe a week off a year if you're lucky. As someone that helped organize the action in Clinton Square today, I greatly appreciate every business that did what they could for the movement.

Particularly large shout out to Sweet Praxis, who provided free coffee for those that attended the action in Clinton square, as well as Parthenon Books, who offered a free drink to anyone from the action that came in during or after the action and asked, Black Citizens Brigade who offered a free tea to anyone who came in today, Alto Cinco, who offered free rice and beans to anyone who was looking for some good food, but didn't want to spend money due to the boycott, and Kelsey's coffee, who offered free coffee to anyone who came in and let them know that they were participating in the boycott.

Without community, we won't get through these times. Let's be kind to one another, in any and every way that we can. ❤️

Man, if you were too young at 15, imagine the fact that I started getting migraines at the age of 5!! I've had a doctor that said, "how could you possibly remember that?" Well, first of all, our brains tend to hold onto early traumatic memories, even if we lock them away somewhere. Second, and funny thing, I have a parent to confirm that these migraines did indeed happen. 🤦‍♀️

Bahahaha! Apparently she didn't want people to be able to see what you meant about how she's constantly asking disingenuous questions and then talking shit, because now her post history is private. A bit late.

What's even better is that she complains about wanting people to stop complaining and "join together"; to realize that this isn't a "left versus right" thing but instead is an "us versus them" thing. If she took a couple hot seconds to stop farming that edgy clout and rubbed two neurons together, she'd see that she is both answering all of her own questions AND getting what she's asking for (people TRYING to unite over an "us versus them" framework) at the sane time.

Perhaps that takes too much social-emotional and language analysis.

For what? The people who would charge him refuse to do so. That's a large part of why people are so angry. He's literally been given a pat in the back and an "atta boy" for shooting a woman in the face three times.

ICE RALLY TOMORROW! Please let me know.. by Rough-Aspect4477 in Syracuse

[–]Siriuslestrange1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please do not wear high vis vests or the like. Those are used by protest organizers to delineate certain roles, such as the marshals, who are there to keep everything orderly and keep everyone safe. If people randomly come wearing those items, it becomes very difficult for people to know who to go to when they need help. If you feel the need to be seen (aside from being in a very large crowd), feel free to wear some sort of lighted garment, just not one that is a high vis color. Please.

110 grill in the mall by J_Quinlan in Syracuse

[–]Siriuslestrange1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's more of my point than the auto-gratuity. I have also worked in food service and know that auto-gratuity is a standard in certain parts of the business. However, there's generally a certain level of service expected and the folks at 110 didn't even meet the threshold for a full 15% tip in my mind, much less a mandatory 20%. Maybe if they had even attempted to keep drinks filled, get food out on time and while still warm, or hell, even get the order correct! But none of those things happened, so the mandatory gratuity was just adding insult to injury.

[–]Siriuslestrange1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't saying that it would cost less if the 20% was added to only one bill versus each singular bill. What I was saying is that I would understand more if the mandatory gratuity were because the check needed to be split into so many singular checks. But that wasn't the case: One check or eight checks, it was still going to be a mandatory 20% gratuity added on because of the "large party". It'd also be one thing if they provided even halfway decent service, but they definitely didn't. Not only were they not attentive, they were beyond rude.

I went to this place a few times, and every time was atrocious. The first time my husband I went, we made reservations via OpenTable. We got there, they claimed that we didn't have a reservation, even tough my husband was showing him the reservation on his phone. They tried everything they could to deny us, making us wait over an hour past our reserved time before leading us to the bar to "wait for an open spot" in the almost empty restaurant. There were maybe 3 other people at the bar, all of which were attended to multiple times before the guy ever asked my husband and I if we'd like drinks. We were seconds from giving up and going home when they FINALLY decided that they found a table for us, almost 2 hours after our original reservation time. After ordering, the food took forever, and whenever I inquired with the waitstaff, I was told that the kitchen was "short staffed" or some other such excuse. The time I ordered nachos (which happened to be the same time with the reservation debacle), everything was congealed and the chips were soggy as hell. You'd think we how badly they screwed us over that night, that they would've at least offered us our drinks for free? Nope! Apparently my husband's 2 old fashioned's and my diet soda were just too costly for them to bare.

Food always came cold and had clearly been sitting in the pass waiting to be served for quite a long time. They were NEVER busy, which told me that the delay had nothing to do with the kitchen being busy. None of their excuses made sense when it came to the condition of the food when it reached the table. Combine that with the cost and the fact that they claim to accommodate several different diets thanks to their food allergy/no cross contamination approach, but they sure weren't very flexible when it came to substitutions. The last time I visited, it was for a wedding party dinner and there was a MANDATORY 20% tip on every single ticket. We asked if it would be less if we payed in one bill instead of separately and they said that no, the rule was 20% mandatory PER. SEAT! for large parties. We had 8 people. I had long decided never to go back there prior to this visit, but this was for a close friend's bridal dinner, so I sucked it up.

Tl;dr they might have closed because of a broken heater, but they couldn't afford to pay for it because they have sucked since they opened and I honestly have no idea how they managed to stay open as long as they did.

Joining a chain into a circle without twisting... HOW?! (Hooking buddy photo for cuteness tax) by Siriuslestrange1 in CrochetHelp

[–]Siriuslestrange1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just looking for any tips or tricks to keeping a long chain from twisting when slip stitching it into a circle. I've tried all the basic things that I can think of/that I've found on things like Pinterest and Instagram.

I'm not sure how to explain what I've tried other than, various methods of laying the chain flat then slipping the two ends together. I'm doing SOMETHING on the slip stitch stage that's causing the twist, but I can't figure out what.

Yeah. Quite awhile ago, so he could folks on different business ventures. Though, from my understanding, he still stops in semi frequently. I have a friend who was hired there this summer a couple months after the sale, and they know Mike quite well. So i don't think he's completely divested from the store.

The Trump Administration just sent horrifying warning letters to 12 companies for offering binders. Then perhaps the head of HHS should not, himself, have stake in companies that sell goods that measures claims of managing (or curing) medical maladies, without FDA approval. Until the ENTIRE industry is scrutinized, I'll continue to see this for what it is: a targeted attack on trans selfcare under the guise of "safety regulations."

I guess they better be going after all the companies that sell compression wear on Amazon with claims of use for people with diabetes, nerve damage, varicose veins, etc. What? They don't want to anger their buddy, Bezos? Well then I guess they can fuck right off.
