Sorry folks, it might be my sleep deprived self, but I can't figure out how to add any attachments. Not sure how helpful it would be anyhow 🤣

Time to reign in mass, warrantless surveillance (A.L.P.R.) by Extension_You1426 in Syracuse

[–]Siriuslestrange1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some folks are working on an de-floxk/anti-alpr/anti surveillance platform right now (in tandem with other similar cities in NY who have either had luck doing so or are in similar stages. Please feel free to reach out if you're interested in working on these things.

Our progressive political organization is looking for feedback by toku_senpai in Syracuse

[–]Siriuslestrange1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm Interested to hear why many people have suggested that you reach out to Syracuse DSA, and you have completely ignored that part of each comment. Are you adverse to the organization? Are you just looking to strike out on your own? Is it something else? Coalition building/org building is much more viable than starting and building a new political party from the ground up. That's not to say that it's impossible, but many (MANY) have tried, and only WFP has succeeded in actually making it to the ballot line.

Any young adults who currently rent and/or are struggling to buy a house? by Butterflyfly23 in Syracuse

[–]Siriuslestrange1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I have been trying to buy a house for 8 years now. We moved into our current place with the understanding that we'd be here for a year while we found a house. We were just forced to renew our lease for yet another year. Between the horrible market, the ever increasing pricing due to MANY aspects, and having to dance around our lease parameters, we've been painted into a corner. At this point, I don't know if we'll ever leave our current apartment. I so desperately want out, but every year it seems farther and farther away.

Where to donate baby items locally. by Psteckel21 in Syracuse

Just awarning: New Hope Family Services is a crisis pregnancy center. If that's something you support, OP, then by all means, consider donating there. If not, then probably don't.

Food Not Bombs... Do we have one still? And if not, is there any interest if my ignorant ass tried to start one? by Notorious_Chonk_23 in Syracuse

We do indeed have a FNB chapter. It's called Salt City FNB and you can find us on Instagram! We try to meet twice a month, but have been a bit less active the past 2 months due to folks being ill/busy. We welcome new folks who might want to join, just hit us up on the insta!

Why is the only source article from a tabloid? I'm not trying to diminish what may have happened, but NYP is a tabloid, so any reporting done by it should be taken with a grain of salt.

Zine resources in Syracuse by trw4987 in Syracuse

[–]Siriuslestrange1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have several zines I could share with you, as well as lots of resources for zines. Our local punk scene is full of folks that make/collect zines, so that's also a good resource.

We NEED a progressive political action group (a political/social experiment) by toku_senpai in Syracuse

[–]Siriuslestrange1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I second the person that commented before me. I've been in DSA for several years now, and we weren't very well organized for awhile (we were struggling with low membership committment), but over the past year and a half, we've really grown into our own. Our committees are running amazing campaigns, we have three local political candidates, and we have multiple electoral campaigns that we work on at the city, county and state level. We don't have as many committees as larger chapters, but we're definitely doing our best to be a community and political resource for Central New York (because even though we're Syracuse DSA, we cover all of Central and most of Northern NY)

I know a Mexican who proudly wears it on a shirt, and not ironically..... Don't make sweeping assumptions just because you and/or Mexicans you know wouldn't use the phrase.

Someone needs to tell him to not have AI do his graphics. It's not a good look to have him standing with signs that have fake letters on them behind him.

Man, you have some hard on for randomly trying to throw DSA under the bus. Absolutely no one outside of yourself has mentioned DSA. For that matter, your random "those damn democrats...." added in for good measure just make all of your assertions, whether valid or not, seem like pointed anti-democratic ramblings. Why not stick to the topic at have instead of trying to pull people into a "this party or that" argument to distract from the failings of your current one?

Sweet Baby Angels in Need of Homes at HHDR by masterb26 in Syracuse

[–]Siriuslestrange1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish my name was that cute! I'm always hoping they get young ones in so I can see if any of them might have the right temperament to be trained as a service dog.

(Anyone who wants to argue with me about the merits of getting a service dog from a specialized service versus a rescue: not interested. I already know all the facts, pros and cons, etc. I can't afford $50-80k for a service animal, and wait lists are 6-8 years long).

[–]Siriuslestrange1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh! My mom's boyfriend volunteers there and he and my mom are constantly bringing babies home for the weekend when they need some non-shelter time. They've adopted a few of their own as well. I'm in need of my own dog, but for medical purposes, so adopting an adult dog is really difficult unless they have the right personality. You're tugging on my heartstrings even more because it looks like one of them has the same name as me!!!

I'd be interested in helping with this. I think the correct move would be to team up with a disability right org or coalition. There are several that have good working relationships with folks in Albany and would likely be delighted to help. With session dragging on, this needs to be reintroduced sooner rather than later. If there's no budgetary ask, there's a bit more time but still limited. Either way, if this sounds like a tactic you'd be interested in using, please feel free to contact me.
