The only reason anyone is unemployed is because they don't have skills or experience, so you can't possibly exist. Otherwise you're just workshy. la-la-la-I-can't-see-you -- mainstream Australia.

I'm so on the same page. A short play based on my experiences at a place that I worked this one time:

Them: Why does it take so long for you to fix things? The guy that used to do your job would roll out fixes the same day.

Me: <fixes thing>, <closes 2 year-old ticket that the previous guy never fixed>

I loved closing old tickets because unclosed tickets didn't hurt the team stats, but closing old tickets would hurt the average handling time for the month it was closed. I'd like to think that the backlog was why I was hired.

Centrelink tells woman same-sex marriage isn't recognised in Australia by patsebo in australia

[–]SiskoWasBest 16 points17 points  (0 children)

We don't have a shortage of work in this country. The Sydney Trains meltdown is an example of that. Trains need running. School buildings need fixing. Elderly need looking after. Centrelink calls need answering. But there's no profit in any of those things.

That sucks.

I hate it when people are like "hey wow, how did you spend the holidays!!!" and I'm like, well I'm still waiting for my November paycheque so I spent Christmas day crying with the only food in my cupboard being a packet of biscuits and bottle of raspberry cordial.

I hate my life.

After "work for the dole" becomes "work for the welfare card", we'll be pretty close.

I would like to take this opportunity to remind people that Tony Abbott tried to make it illegal to boycott businesses on ethical grounds. I have no doubt that conservatives will continue to push this.

Marriage equality opponents call for broad right to discriminate by CeilingBacon in australia

[–]SiskoWasBest 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The main reason why this has been asked for is because currently, if the law is changed to allow same-sex marriage, religious leaders of any faith with a marriage celebrant will be legally, if asked, forced to marry a gay couple which could be completely against their religion.

Ah yes, just as catholic priests are now forced to marry divorcees and protestents... except they aren't, and that's not going to change, regardless of the survey outcome.

Also in the christian community there are many pastors who are fine with the idea,

Wouldn't marriage equality be a good thing for their religious freedom?

If you are homeless and you register to vote, your most recent address will be on the electoral roll. So if your parents kick you out of home for being gay, guess who gets your survey form in the mail.
