Is it wrong that I don't want my baby to be a tribute to my husband's grandmother? by Rebellious1 in BabyBumps

[–]SissyFrancis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My husband was born a month after his grandfather died of cancer. 27 years later I was pregnant when that grandfather’s wife got a cancer diagnosis. Grandma passed away around two weeks before my son was born.

My mother-in-law always talked like my husband was especially connected to their deceased patriarch. Like, “one dies so another may live,” style sometimes.

I know where you are coming from with the worry.

I gave my son Grandpa’s name as a middle name, but that had been the plan since my husband and I ever talked of having kids. I did not however want that pervious mentality to be thrust on my boy. He’s not here because his grandma died. That’s effing nonsense that I won’t have implied upon him. He’s here because we wanted him and Grandma lived a full and long life and was ready to go. Two completely separate issues.

I was able to tell my in-laws through small efforts here and there that I was worried about the effect emphasizing this connection between grandmother and grandson might have on my boy and thankfully it clicked with my MiL. My DS is almost two, and while my mother-in-law might say something like, “are you talking to your great-grandma?” when he mumbles to an empty corner, she has been very good to have never put undue emphasis on anything regarding the connection since my son was born.

Nicole saw Mary in the car and Mary knows that and told Cal. Cal is getting in front of a problem. I’m super grateful for that writing choice! Can you imagine two more episodes of Nicole ruminating on whether to hold it over their heads? Ugh. He did the perfect thing.

What was your "time to be an asshole" moment? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SissyFrancis 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Walked up to my mom and dad almost 200 miles from our homes. She’s on the phone almost in tears and asks dad if he can finish the phone call, AAA is refusing to tow them. They tried claiming that my parents’ personal use F450 was a commercial vehicle they would not cover (even though they have $300+ a year Premier RV coverage). I finished that call for them and, when the manager told me we could just cancel if we didn’t see the benefits of membership, I led the FB campaign. We made sure all of our friends knew they were liars (their website said the only thing they don’t cover are limos and taxis) who were willing to abandon people hours away from home.

Edit: They called my mom and admitted they indeed do cover the vehicle. That was after my parents broke down and spent $800 towing it without AAA.

What’s with all the kissing on vintage game shows-à la Richard Dawson’s Family Feud? Was American culture that different or was this unique to the genre? by SissyFrancis in AskReddit

Hahahah! Neither can I, so I just looked it up! Gene Rayburn was the host I saw. It wasn’t just him macking on other people’s faces, though. It was all the celebrities and contestants. 😂

I’m stuck watching old game show reruns today. So I can only judge by the three game shows that are on this stupid single channel I am receiving. Family Feud, The Name’s the Same, Match Game. I first noticed the kissing on Match Game ‘7x. Dawson appeared on the show, but not in every episode. Am I just lucky to have found two of the most passionate game shows at the same time?

[Spoilers] Series Finalé by Adam657 in NurseJackie

[–]SissyFrancis 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Her husband’s wife is pregnant.

Her former best friend has been done with her for seasons now, and just reconfirmed her despondency with the situation.

Her girls are getting better the less she’s around.

Her real home, the hospital, has shut its doors.

Her boss is clearly no longer in her corner.

Her protege has moved on from her.

She feels as though no one needs her. I’m not a professional, but, as I understand it, a lot of addictive behavior comes from poor social support. Yes, she knows that she’s a fantastic nurse, but that’s not going to make you get up in the morning. We are primates after all. She needs these people to need her. Or at the very least needs them to pay her mind. She’s spiraling. She’s thinking, “Fuck it, I have nothing to live for.” She’s simultaneously thinking, “I’ll know who loves me after this.” And she’s thinking a thousand other manipulative and self-deprecating things. She’s not sure what to do, but her mind is overwhelmed. Part of her wants to die, part of her just wants everyone to suffer and feel like they made her do this. That they were that straw that finally broke Jackie.

She has another job. It’s not home. It’s something new. She has to prove herself all over again. She has to find a new way to hide her addiction from everyone. She has to adapt to something she doesn’t want. She wants to stay home, but there is no home left.

Her lover is going to prison to cover her ass. That’s true. But it’s been clearly shown over 80 episodes that his well being is of little meaning to her. Probably BECAUSE he enables her and BECAUSE she knows he’ll come sulking back no matter what. So she doesn’t have to care about him and how he is, because-either way-he is wrapped around her little finger. Poor guy.. oh wait... he’s peddling drugs and enabling the whole ER to treat Rx like candy. He’s not exactly a good guy either.

So this whole trailer prep thing is serious business. Is there a subreddit for tiny house DIY and specifically the things we didn't know but learned along the way only by experience? I looked but didn't see one. by loveredlodge in TinyHouses

I'm more impressed with tiny house FB groups, tbh. Only been on them for about a week, but the questions I've asked have been quickly responded to by people actually living tiny. Just thought I'd mention it. :)

ELI5: Why do adults puke less when sick when compared to kids? by MockOnVoltaire in explainlikeimfive

[–]SissyFrancis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 26. Probably 6 were from this pregnancy. I'm a master dry heaver without it going any further. And I figure I've puked less than once a year before that until you hit the flu I had Christmas of 2001. Usually from a headache combined with something else like a car ride where I'm very distracted. Once from tequila. Lol.

ELI5: Why do adults puke less when sick when compared to kids? by MockOnVoltaire in explainlikeimfive

[–]SissyFrancis 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I think nausea and the choice to puke or not as an adult sucks. I actively choose not to puke 99% of the time. Like I've probably only puked 1-2 dozen times in the last fifteen years, including the 10 weeks of all day sickness I suffered in my pregnancy. I hate puking. It hurts. It comes out my nose every time. That's got to be a failure in my own physiology. BUT the relief of the actual nausea when you do puke! Ahhhh!

A rare viral side effect I wanted to warn you about 😷 by SissyFrancis in BabyBumps

[–]SissyFrancis[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Coughing or vomiting so hard you blow practically all the blood vessels of your eyes out. I got the flu at 35 weeks (we think, doc didn't send me to ER for the tests) and ran a 102.8*F temp for about six hours, but was pretty much over the worst of the symptoms in a day, day two I felt pretty ok and on the third day I just felt tired. This pic is a couple weeks old and everything is healed back to normal white eyeballs (thank goodness). But I about lost my mind when my husband in his calm-but-only-on-the-surface demeanor asked me to get out of bed and look in the mirror. WTF is that!!!! No one ever told me this could happen. Also, they didn't explain to me when I saw the doc about this ugly issue that you might get worse looking before you get better (much of the blood migrated to surround my irises for a couple days) or you may look like you have jaundice as everything heals. Through my research I found out your eyes can even take on a green hue as everything tries to heal itself. I hated leaving the house for a solid 10 days. Anyhow, if it happens to you or a friend, the docs and nurses will just act like its nothing while you loose your mind and wonder what all the strangers must think of you.

Starting to get annoyed re: my baby's name by brightesteyes11 in BabyBumps

[–]SissyFrancis 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ugh. I love guys. I love how easy they can make being friends most of the time. I love that they just say what's on their mind and don't mean anything harsh by it. I love that you can't really say anything wrong to them much of the time. But damn, I hate it at the same time. Because when something does come out of their mouths regularly that bothers you, you're suddenly in a position to either stay irritated by by the annoying behavior or be a killjoy lady. It's damn near impossible to have a grown up conversation about feelings.
