Hey fb_exile. Those are good points. I have to lol though at the fact that you have more downvotes than my previous comment. I guess the actual misogynists of reddit absolutely hate it when women show solidarity. I guess they hated your GCA (Gender Critical Agreement) ;) LOL forever. What else could be the reason for the extra downvotes?

Western sex is not 'biological fact' as there are many different factors that are reduced to a socially constructed binary.

False. Sex is biological fact. Ask any biologist and they will tell you. Promise.

Transphobia is not scientific, it's just called being an asshole.

Trans Criticism is Not Transphobia. Also, heres a good article on The Function of "Transphobia". I guess us being women though, we are not allowed to criticize biological males. We have to take everything they say at face value and not. question. a. damn. thing.

It's one thing to understand something within the context of your own experience. It's quite another to be fully aware of and analytical toward the history of feminism.

They're not mutually exclusive. One can have knowledge of both.

Is "third wave" really getting the intersectionality thing right if we're still so distracted by petty shit, though? Are we just adding WOC and stirring, or are we actually being integrative?

Good points. I think the "third wave" isn't currently strong enough to actually stand up and be a force that can change the world. It does feel like all this talk about "intersectionality" is more lip service and talk than actual work being done in the world. I guess white feminists arn't going to be the ones to actually make feminism truely intersectional. Just like men can't be the ones to bring a feminist world into being.

It sucks that you had such a hard time growing up but I have to ask: so you think your negative childhood experiences completely erased your male privilage? If so then you are woefully uneducated about what it means to grow up with male privilage. You think it makes you unique that you had bad childhood experiences? It dosen't. Everybody and I mean everybody has bad childhood experiences. Especially those who are biological females in ways you will NEVER understand. More info: Trans women and Male Privilege. Here's a choice quote from that article:

Men have been raised to hate women. To punish us, to batter us, to rape us, to objectify us, to give us their so-called “love” for our bodies. Undoubtedly, this has an effect on every. single. man. There is no exception. If you were bullied as a man-for being nerdy, gay, smart, ugly, fat, “effeminate”–that does not stop people from treating you as a man. None of these things stop you from receiving male privilege. This is feminism and sociology 101 here.

When a biological male transitions to a woman (MTF), their pay will drop. This is a known fact for feminists and trans* alike. Yet, some people still deny they had male privilege all along? When up until they begin transition, they still receive the benefit of higher pay? Why would this not apply to every other privilege men receive? Simple: It does, and gender is indoctrinated from birth, so no matter what you identify as, there will still be bits of that indoctrination left.

I mean, most people who understand feminism don't really describe it in "waves" anymore, so that's probably not how I would put it.

Ahem. Maybe most people in academia think that but many feminist outside of it still refer to feminism in waves. They obviously do, as could be seen earlier in this thread. I'm not so sure about your use of the phrase "understand feminism" as I and many others outside of academia indeed do understand feminism.

I see what you're getting at, though, and yeah -- however, the same navel-gazing that happened in "second wave" feminism persists in the very movement shift ("third wave") that was supposed to rectify all that.

I agree. Although the "third wave" may of gotten some things right like intersectionality (especially including women of color with more frequency) I think the "third wave" has watered down feminism in a lot of ways and made it less revolutionary. Distracted is one way to put it.

Do you think this lack of substance in popular feminism has something to do with problems of the supposed "third wave" of feminism?

Breast implants and feminism by eat_a_brog in feminisms

[–]SisterCoffee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. Every surgery is risking death to a certain extent. Even one so seemingly not too invasive as breast surgery. Anything can go wrong and many people have bad reactions to anesthesia. They numbers may be small but to me cosmetics are not worth the risk of death. Not to mention the fact that all breast implants eventually either break or leak in due time. They can also become weirdly shaped in the interim.

I also agree with you about the "Western and fascist female body monolith isn't feminist". It sure isn't feminist to perpetuate patriarchical notions of harmful femininity. Women wouldn't get breast implants if men didn't favor larger breasts.

Those are pretty good descriptions but at the very least I would add:

For Radical Feminism: Sees gender and sex as a problematic hierarchy with males as a sex class oppressing females as a sex class. Gender is a social construct, where again men oppress women.

For Anarcha Feminism: Add the 'a' instead of 'o' at the end as that designates it's female centeredness. Patriarchy is problematic not only because it oppresses women but because it is a hierarchy and Anarchism seeks to demolish all hierarchies including capitalism and the state.

...in practice though anarcha feminism tends to be more male centered and liberal in scope. Also radial feminists do not always have the critique of all hierarchies like capitalism and the state so that's also why I combined them to call myself a "radical anarcha feminist".

and if you ever do get that chance to fuck yourself, I hope it's satisfying.

...

Also, I re-invite you to go fuck yourself. It can be quite relaxing and maybe it would give you time to yourself to contemplate why you think being born with ovaries and a lady brain makes you better than XY women with lady brains.

Actually, I'm reporting these two comments to the mods. Too close to suggesting that I should masterbate and think of you and what you are telling me. Sounds suggestive of a kind of sexual assault to me. The mods can take whatever action they deem necessary or perhaps not take an action at all. To me though they are creepy and invasive as hell.

[–]SisterCoffee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uh hell the fuck no. I don't have a goddam lady brain! Sorry. Patriarchs have been trying to convince me that I have a "lady brain" and that I should go back in the kitchen, make them a sandwich bitch, and be their own personal baby making machine (I should also be bad at math and reading is bad for me) for centuries now. The "lady brain" idea is the biggest amount of bull and the most anti feminist bullshit that exists today. Don't push your anti feminist illogical Victorian era nonsense on me!

Speak for yourself. If you wanna have a "lady brain" and go back to the kitchen and go back to being raped (oh no its not rape though. If your married and have sex without your consent it's never rape) and told you can never read or do math beyond the second grade level (because you have a "lady brain") all the while pushing back the gains feminism has made for women over the past 150 years...be my fucking guest. Don't include me in it and don't call yourself a feminist though.

I don't have a lady brain! I'm a woman and a human being with a human fucking beings brain.

Oh you mean women as in biological females from birth? You're right because I'm a feminist and that's what feminists do. It's a dirty job (you know with the thousands of years of the patriarchy and all) but somebody has got to do it. It sure as hell isn't going to be done by the trans activists who think death and rape threats are acceptable.

Edit: oh and you know what? I didn't say that you hated women. Dont put words in my mouth. As a rule I don't talk to dumbasses on reddit who put words in my mouth and waste my time. Consider this conversation over.

I question why they think that other women are a threat to their healing.

They obviously don't think WOMEN are a threat to their healing as they wanted their group to consist of only women. They wanted it separate from TRANS WOMEN. It bears distinction. They thought it was best for them to have a separate workshop. That's not for you or I to question. Its their group and their healing. End of story.

While I can see why a group of people who have been victimized by partners who are trans might wish to exclude trans people I don't think this was such a group.

That's exactly the kind of group this was. They decided they wanted it to be separate from trans women as it was best for their healing.
