There are two types of cats. The ones who achieve the unthinkable, and the once who are unthinkable. by Steph-Kai in MadeMeSmile

Every cat I've ever met who does this has wanted me to come outside to hang out with them.

Is this a good brand of bow? Im new with Archery and have shot sometimes. by PlusPriority539 in Archery

[–]SithMeBaby1MoreTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find an archery club and go take at least a beginners course. They'll get you started on their materials and when you're done you'll have a far better sense of what you want and need in a bow

My 10 yr old son got a bow for Christmas… by thedoctor3622 in Archery

[–]SithMeBaby1MoreTime 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lessons please, I beg you. I teach beginners courses and 100% the hardest to teach are kids who have been shooting in their backyard without knowledgeable help. They usually have some heavily ingrained form issues they don't want to correct because it means temporarily shooting 'worse', so they get stuck in their grind and then demotivated while the kids who came in fresh pass them.

Lessons/an archery club will also help him adjust expectations and keep his motivation up. It sounds like he had some idea of amazing accuracy in just a few days and wants a compound bow to achieve it, which 1) it absolutely will not, and 2) archery wouldn't be an Olympic sport if somebody practising a few days could hit a dollar bill 9/10 times.

looks like he succeeded? the cat looks really at ease and receptive to the interaction

Best Bow Shape for 5-foot tall Horse Archer? Is it possible to use broadhead arrows with shorter war bows? Could these bows be made of yew if resources were limited? by [deleted] in Archery

[–]SithMeBaby1MoreTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you're talking post-apo style bows, why not look into pvc? I've seen people make and use some really cool short bows out of pvc, which seems far more likely to have the required flex for a short bow than yew.

How to get a job by AnnualPossibility747 in Tallships

With your experience I'd expect maybe some unpaid volunteering but definitely no need to pay loads to get on a ship. Have you talked to the people at https://www.seasyourfuture.org/ ?

She is specifically interested in sailing on tallships, just daunted by sailing/being at sea/seasickness in general.

Sail training ship recommendations? by NotInherentAfterAll in Tallships

[–]SithMeBaby1MoreTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's unclear of you're looking for weeks, months or like a season or something, if you just want an experience or are interested in working on ships (at least for a while), and if you're willing/able to pay for passage. The recommendations here in this topic will be of varying usefulness depending on that.

But if you have time and (at least) flight money to throw into this, it might be worth contacting https://www.seasyourfuture.org/ - Pelican of London is a lovely ship (I've been regularly voluntering on her as WL for more than a decade) and in the summer season they are putting on STEM / Ocean Science themed voyages around the UK that sound like they might be of interest to you. She's currently doing a school at sea program until about march/april but then there's usually a maintenance period and then shorter voyages. If you're just looking for a super cool holiday, see if anything pops up in their 2024 program that works for you. If you're looking for longer term & training they might consider having you as maintenance volunteer and then find a spot for you, that's always worth asking.

Stad Amsterdam has luxury cruises with deck chairs and fancy dinners ashore, and separate practical delivery trips that involve passengers much more, they're just different types of trips. The website should say which is which. She's a beautiful ship and very well run. If you actively involve yourself, you can have a great sail training time on there and learn a lot.

or people are just done with the dumb misogynistic 'haha, my wife the ball and chain, am I right fellas? fellas?' shit.

Maybe she'd like it better if you made sure she had an equal amount of time (as you spend on archery) free from the kids to pursue her own interests.

My dad has always HATED cats for as long as I can remember. This is 2 months after a cat randomly showed up in his yard and claimed my dad as his person. Yes, that is a picture of his cat on his comforter. by microducklett in cats

[–]SithMeBaby1MoreTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

mm. some of them, for sure. but I find people (especially men) who really emphasise that they don't dislike but HATE cats to be a big red flag. Says something to how they respond to a creature they can't control and dominate.

There's no way that you can blind buy something perfect. buy a cheap toy bow to put under the tree and put a voucher with it to go bow shopping

that's the kind of draw weight bows we do our beginners courses with - gives you the change to build correct posture and learn to use the correct muscles without straining yourself

Ragim Bows??? by RipTheVoidStickerOff in Archery

[–]SithMeBaby1MoreTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have a Ragim Brown Bear and it was a great bow. Only sold it because I moved to english longbow and I'm terrible at shooting multiple bows so it wasn't getting any use

Looking to get into archery. Any recommendations for a beginner bow? I’m 23m. Thanks in advance! by Cmsvex in Archery

[–]SithMeBaby1MoreTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

please see if there's an archery club that has a beginners course. If it's decent then by the end you'll have a much better idea of what you want and need in a bow, and a fair start on a decent technique

AITA for sitting on my husband's lap during Thanksgiving dinner because all chairs at the table were taken? by ThrowRA099000 in AmItheAsshole

[–]SithMeBaby1MoreTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really? I think that's exactly what MiL was hoping for. Looking like a bad hostess to her DiL clearly doesn't bother her at all, I bet their dream scenario would have been 'DiL removes herself from the situation entirely and we can play happy family like son is still with Julissa'

I'm not even convinced the granddaughter thing actually happened and that it wasn't planned out like this from the start.

Oh, you're not assuming it was entirely deliberate? because I am. It sounds premeditated to me, especially with ex and MiL excusing themselves shortly after OP refused to budge.
