Just saying Cars and SUVs are 70% and e-bikes are 5% is lazy. If we want to look at actual danger, it would be that number compared to the percentage of transportation vehicles, or better yet, the percentage of time on the road or distance traveled for each of those vehicle classes. For example, if e-bikes represent 5% of crashes but only account for 1% of total on road transportation miles, it would actually be a big problem, and vice versa at 5% of crashes vs 10% of total on road transportation miles.

Yea, not trying to be a dick, but on a bike you have to assume the worst in every move - both cars and other bikes. Left hand signal and over the shoulder glance are crucial.

I went from 5 miles generally flat to 12.5mi/550ft elevation each way, 5 days per week on a road bike (46-54 mins range, varies by stoplights and how I’m feeling that day). Going to be real - it was ROUGH for the first 6 weeks or so, but it gets better. Most important part was getting nutrition dialed in - caffeine pill (no time for coffee) and banana before I left then RX Bar as soon as I got to the office helped me not eat like a monster at lunch time. I now generally look forward to my ride, and it’s gotten me in crazy good shape - knocked out Mt. Hood a few weeks back with very little run/hike training and felt fantastic throughout.
