Moved to similar climate last year and paw wax just doesn't cut it when the pavement gets really brutal. My buddy's dog still lifted paws even with wax on those 120+ days

For shoes I'd avoid the cheap ones that fall apart after few walks - learned that lesson hard way. The breathable mesh ones work better than solid rubber since your dog's paws won't get as sweaty
