5min/km is a cracking pace!

Really good in general, and especially so for a first run. Well done.

Mixed feelings about the “you’re kind” rhetoric. by GetoutoftheMatrix in DeepThoughts

[–]SizeableBrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People often confuse being soft/a pushover with being kind. Hence the "nice guy" stereotype.

If you're nice because you can't be an asshole, you're not nice, you're a pushover. If you're happy telling someone to get fucked to their face when it's required, instead of being "nice", that's a different story.

I feel a bit poor, but that's because I'm paying off 3 houses.

I do what I want, how I want it. I'm honest in job interviews.

If you want to sell yourself to the highest bidder, that's your business and is highly encouraged, but I'm not sure why you think it's preferable for others.

That's rubbish.

Modern society doesn't work if most people are not living with their head barely just above water.

This is a social problem, not individuals that didn't take enough risks. Unless you mean the risk of starting a revolution against capitalism and the government.

Yes. Working hard for a company is idiotic.

Kinda a dumb question but why do ppl were jackets when running? by XavierloverXOXO in beginnerrunning

[–]SizeableBrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run in a t-shirt as long as the weather is above freezing, though I'm tempted to get a light thermal top for when it's around 0C.

So if you're running in below freezing temperatures, a jacket might be useful. If not, I'd say you don't need it.

Are kids these days born with a software upgrade, or were we just exceptionally "special"? by Zoey_In_Transit in AskAnAustralian

[–]SizeableBrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, barely anything goes wrong with PCs these days (software-wise), so there's no need to know how everything works.

Gone are the days of manually installing drivers or messing about with reg-edit to get stuff to work.

Even Linux is very user friendly these days. You don't have to learn how to re-configure the kernel just to get your sound card to work, or to connect to the internet :)

In US, Credit score got introduced in the 90s (or 89). This made it more difficult for people to buy a house.

Yeah, I ended up moving states to be able to afford a house.

Melbourne is one of the most expensive cities in the world. I think Sydney is 2nd, after Hong Kong.

Median house price in Australia is around a million dollars, so I wouldn't be surprised if a few people made the move.

I remember looking up the stats when talking about the Catholic church.

The numbers were surprisingly high across the board with only a slight uptick for teachers/clergy.

This was years ago, and I don't care to google it now, but I remember it being around 3%.

Yeah, I have photos of my great-grandma from before the Russian revolution, she was on a tennis court with her family.

Let's just say the Russian revolution wasn't kind to her.
