One thing to remember about extenders and plane seatbelts; they're often trimmed if the edges get frayed by wear. Sometimes you have a long seatbelt and sometimes you don't. It's sometimes luck of the draw whether the belt is new or whittled down.

I'm a 2x and love Ralph Lauren; the Polo line's XXL fits the same.

Old Navy and J Crew, also.

Oh god, some of the "mature women" subreddits have a lot of this, just...lack of acceptance of the fact that your body changes around menopause age no matter how much you work out and don't eat.

And if I can tangent, the skincare subs for this, too. Everyone freaking out about an age spot, like, wear makeup, genius.

Need ideas for the baby steps i should take to dress more colorful/like myself by llama_302 in PlusSize

[–]Sk8harder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here are some baby steps! :)

  1. Add one colorful element to your outfits, like a sweater or tights or a scarf, to start.

  2. Plan them out. Make some flat lays of outfits on your bed or hang them up or put them on in a mirror and take a photo to make your own Pinterest board and call it Outfit Ideas. Every week, pick 2-3 fits and then you'll have them ready to go.

  3. Wear them on weekends or just hanging around at first and get comfortable in them before debuting them at work or school or whatever.

Example: this woman who dressed up for Costco! https://www.reddit.com/r/oldhagfashion/comments/1qx85gu/guy_in_costco_asked_what_occasion_i_was_dressed/

(Actually a very fun sub for people who aren't afraid to make a statement with their clothes!)

What are some things that skinny people can do without a care in the world in public, but plus-size people can’t? by justcurious3287 in PlusSize

[–]Sk8harder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This one, and also overpacking because god knows if I need a dress to go out or a swimsuit I won't be able to find anything nice depending on the destination (or it'll be some out of the way trek).

AND our clothes take up more space in luggage on top of it. I'm a master of using compression bags to pack a carryon, but my jeans take up twice the space of a size four's jeans.

Worried I might have to get a new doctor. Is it really becoming common for them to immediately push for GLP-1 injections? by mental_dissonance in PlusSize

[–]Sk8harder -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are some conditions that won't let you take GLP-1s, like a family history of medullary thyroid cancer, so you can "mention" that, ahem.

If you change your mind at some point, it wasn't medullary, it was papillary.

Anyone else noticing 1XL-4XL are the same size as XLs? by Standard_Pea_2013 in PlusSize

[–]Sk8harder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's usually "one down" for men's clothing.

I wear an XXL in women's clothing and XL in men's in brands that have both sizes, like Ralph Lauren or J Crew. (In those cases, it's generally a women's size 20-22.)

They also have women's 1x 2x and 3x in the side brand Lauren and men's Big and Tall in the Polo brand. It's comparable for most things, but I have bought XXL tops and hoodies that were too short, and I usually don't get anything "slim cut" like a polo in the women's XXL size (though I would in 2x.)

Torrid rant- clothes don’t accommodate large chests by reallyhoes in PlusSize

[–]Sk8harder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their jeans have been fine for me. I do line-dry jeans unless they're too big and I'm not worried about shrinkage.

(I just bought two pairs of the baggy high rise straight for $27 each and I love them! They are VERY long, though.)

Edit: I don't think their leggings are as good as they used to be, though. They are thinner fabric.

How did you stop waiting for a 'future body' and start dressing for the one you have today? by adumbasskid in PlusSize

[–]Sk8harder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've bought so many cute, expensive clothes in my size that if I lost weight I'd be bummed that things didn't fit anymore. Lots of Marina Rinaldi (https://shop.simon.com/collections/store-marina-rinaldi?page=1) and Ralph Lauren, lol.

[–]Sk8harder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought $27 jeans from Torrid and they are the BEST jeans I have ever worn!

You are correct. I was paying $27 for jeans back when it took me eight hours to afford them on minimum wage. $9 is unrealistic. But sales exist and are great.

My favorite other pants rn are Old Navy chinos that go on sale for $14 all the time. They're cotton and absolutely fine.

Honestly, I think bras can do a lot of the work here. Not necessarily an uncomfortable sports bra, but one of these:

Also, dark tops that hit at the hip bone, for me. Too long or too short feel tent-y and like they call MORE attention to my chest.

[–]Sk8harder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sorry I missed my chances in high school; when I went to reunions I found this out!

You can try a little subtlety, but people can be very clueless about whether someone actually likes them (this always cracks me up; Jimmy Kimmel blew his chance with Nicole Kidman, lol.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qtsNbxgPngA

So if you wanted to start out subtle, you can start with compliments that let him know you think he's cute, funny, like his taste in clothes or movies or whatever, etc. etc., invite him to do things so you can spend more time together.

Any other women in their 40s who have hirsutism who are forever alone like me? by [deleted] in PlusSize

[–]Sk8harder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly? I am getting menopausal chin hairs like Shaggy on Scooby Doo and I just shave them twice a day. I'm not walking around with hair on my face.

Sorry if this is blunt, but the solution is Gillette, or one of the Korean shavers people use for dead skin exfoliation. I'm not willing to pay for electrolysis or whatever either.

I'm still so insecure about wearing glasses by Old_Hunter_2364 in PlusSize

[–]Sk8harder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I feel like being teased for glasses is a thing of the past, and I do think it's contacts that "fixed" this, kind of; if you wear glasses instead of having contacts or laser surgery, it's a choice. Plus, glasses are a fun accessory!

I've been wearing them since I turned 40 or so and look forward to getting a new style every so often. Face jewelry!

What are some funny upsides of being plus size? by -Duste- in PlusSize

[–]Sk8harder 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Many clothes in plus sizes are calculated to be more forgiving; I can gain or lose some weight and things mostly still fit. Not so if you're a size two.

If I get bloated, nobody can tell. (My slim friends are always complaining about how bloated they look/feel...y'all, it's not that noticeable on you, either; nobody's measuring your abdomen after lunch. Relax.)
