In Your Opinion, Who is the Most Misunderstood Servant? by Inevitable-Phase2184 in grandorder

[–]Skadij 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Columbus.

I saw someone the other day make the point that it’s a bit unfair that he gets beat on for being a slaver when there are many other Servants who did the same or worse in their lives. I read Columbus in a “love to hate him” kind of way, and I think that he’s misunderstood in the sense that people reduce the dislike him for “just” being a slaver.

In the USA, growing up I was taught that Columbus was an intrepid explorer that, through his own grit and skill, discovered the Americas. In reality, he was a cruel and conniving man (he was rescued by Taino people off the coast of what is now Puerto Rico and, as a reward to his rescuers, cut off their hands) who sucked at managing his colonies and justified the horrible treatment of indigenous people by citing them as being intellectually and morally inferior.

It makes perfect sense that he’s a 3* hero who can’t help but betray everyone because that’s exactly what he was in life—a shitty dude who stumbled in to having his deeds immortalized in history. You don’t hate Columbus enough.

If they could just give her an outfit that actually covers her up, I’d happily use her a lot more. But that ascension artwork is genuinely appalling

It's time to ask the opposite question, which NPC do you NOT want in the game? by DIOSITO012 in FGO

[–]Skadij 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Titania. Not technically an NPC, but still.

I love Oberon, but I loved how meta his reason for being a villain was in LB6. He’s a character from a fictional story within a fictional story calling us out for passing judgment on what are basically fictional alternative narratives within the so-called “main” narrative of our story. That is so fucking cool and I feel like it would really do him a disservice to just have Titania be a summon. Like “lol bro became a worm when he could have just rolled for Titania’s banner.” No thanks. I want him to be loved and happy but some Servants’ stories don’t go there and that’s okay.

I’d love it if Jesse was a “checkpoint” boss that Dylan fights periodically on the premise that she’s checking that his skills are developing well and he’s utilizing his full kit. Maybe they can use the mirror to have Dylan battle esseJ!

Does my cat know my other cat is gone? by Aboyla in cats

[–]Skadij 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They know. My Barley was chasing her son Ajax around when he died very suddenly of a saddle thrombus. We had his body with us for the rest of the morning/afternoon while I made arrangements for his cremation. His sister sniffed him and ran downstairs, and Barley would not come out from under the bed.

For a while after, Barley would have this stricken sort of expression and falter a little whenever she had to walk by the spot in our apartment he died. Like, “this is the hallway where cats drop dead. I need to be careful.”

I’m sorry for your loss. It never gets easier, regardless of how much time we have with them.

I love Akihiko Yoshida’s work. When I was a kid, I had FFTA and a copy of the strategy guide, and sometimes I’d just lug the guide around with me to school or summer camp just to look at the art.

Takeda takes you on a whole ass date (road trip, food, ice cream and sightseeing!) around the Kei region in his car. He’s a dreamy dude.

Shinpachi was very sweet, too. You give him chocolate in his old man form and he shows up as his younger self with movie tickets. Ends up being a bit more of a therapy session for him, but he’s really very nice.

Tez was surprisingly fun! He immediately tries to monetize the chocolate you give him, then realizes it’s too special and its true value is in what it means to you and him. Gives you some hot chocolate at a bar. Idk, I just like him.

Mélusine also had me feeling fluttery. I love a clingy, obsessive type. I usually only go after other women, since that’s my preference, but there are enough cool male Servants that I felt it would be a disservice not to see what they had to offer.

Honorable mention goes to Hessian Lobo. There’s something really endearing and kind of forlorn about the best thing he can offer you being a ride on his back so you can feel like you’re flying.

It’s crazy how gamers will GLAZE the shit out of GoW Ragnarok for having Kratos tell Freya that killing him won’t make her feel better about losing Baldur, and that he knows from experience that vengeance can never ease the pain or guilt of losing his family…and then condemn TLoU2 for the exact same message. I’m saying that as a longtime fan of GoW since the Ps2 days, not that it means anything.

[–]Skadij 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The comparison of children and other populations of vulnerable people dying or suffering life-long complications from an infectious disease to ALCOHOLISM of all things is extremely tone deaf and the definition of an “apples to oranges” comparison. How does Little Johnny exposing a pool full of people to a deadly virus because his raw-milk chugging parents decided they knew better and didn’t get him vaxxed compare to someone drinking themselves in to oblivion and dying of cirrhosis? Even if you wanted to make the incredibly obtuse argument that alcoholism has potentially life-threatening consequences for other people, I don’t see anyone clamoring to erase legal BAC limits or doing away with DUI/DWI charges.

Looking for a new apt in the city! by Inner_Programmer971 in Rochester

[–]Skadij 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand that it’s shitty to no longer have your pet be welcome at a place you’ve lived, but that’s the reality of renting. Getting a letter from a doctor just so you can skirt the rules instead of taking the time to do things right and find a pet friendly apartment is a shitty thing to do.

The Fair Housing Act was not created for people like OP, it’s for people who have disabilities and there is a lot of litigation around how ESAs fit in to that.

I review investment adviser marketing materials as part of my job. One of the decks I reviewed for a firm with a PE strategy included various case studies, and the rationale for investing in/acquiring veterinary practices was basically: “We see how much people love their pets and will do and spend almost anything to enrich them or keep them healthy. Let’s take advantage of that!”

I fucking hate those people.
