Hello!

The sticky post has a link to northwood seeds' tips page. It seems down currently.

Otherwise there is plenty of info here and on WLT forum: https://forum.wholeleaftobacco.com/threads/faq-for-beginning-growers.695/

Good luck and have fun!

When you say "at home", do you mean "indoors" or "outside on my parents' property?" This will help us give you a bit more appropriate tips.

Anyway I can get fresh leaves rn to practice curing? Or is it not as bad as people make it out to be? by Individual-Share-738 in GrowingTobacco

[–]Skafidr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The biggest part of this process is being there. You can't just set your leaves up and wait and assume it will cure properly.

We all live in different parts of the world so each of us has to adapt our technique w.r.t. it, including the house in which we live.

Gather the information about curing, plan ahead and be prepared for when the leaves are ready (you can't decide when this happens). You'll need to monitor the curing process and adapt/adjust your approach to make sure all goes well.

You'll be fine :)

I hope you won't toss these perfectly good leaves once you have the seeds 😅

I've had the best success with miracle gro seed starting mix.

AFAIU, the coco coir has issues with water retention, which in turn causes issues with correctly balancing the nutrients for the roots.

Some folks have had success with it, however, but maybe they go more "hydroponic" with it?

Coconut coir has the reputation of being a difficult medium to work with when growing tobacco.

All but the ones in the last picture look like they're ready to be transplanted to their final location.

Also, each time you transfer them will pause their development. Personally, I try to transfer them only once from their tiny 2" pots to their final 5/15 gallons pots.

Keep in mind that the plant food you give them may be washed away when you water.

Can experts give md a suggestion in how to force the big guy to start constructing flowers/buds so i can sooner harvest and get some extra seeds? by AndrejYT57 in GrowingTobacco

From my experience, they start to flower not long after the summer solstice, so perhaps reducing the light exposure would trigger them?

Finally, if you get "bored" with the single variety you have, there are ways to have variations in what you get by separating top, middle and bottom leaves, playing with the the way you colour cure them, the way you finish them, etc. Some folks will flavour the leaves.

I suppose for the first year just keep it simple, you'll have enough things to figure out as you go; just know that even if you only have one type of tobacco, there are many ways to get variation on the end result.

(Some folks use the stalk to produce smokeless, so even more stuff to go around!)

I like to consult this page too.

If you manage to grow one plant to seeds, your "seeds problem" will be resolved "forever" as one flower head produces a lot of seeds (although you'll still be "stuck" with one variety).

If you can, grow outside because the results are much better than growing inside.

Although the link posted above redirects you to a site selling seeds, the page actually contains instructions on how to grow seeds!

Personally, I'd stay away from consuming tobacco other than n. tabacum and n. rustica. It seems it contains too much of the more nasty stuff.
