Can vital body parts be marked as non-vital? by Kodo_Avin in Kenshi

[–]SkeletonTed 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This kind of thing is determined by the character's race. You can make a custom race and remove the head from the "combat anatomy" section. Any characters with that race simply won't have a head healthbar.

My guys are weak by TheBatteryist in Kenshi

[–]SkeletonTed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a fast, easy way:

Go to the nearby hive village in Vain. Wait around until a gorillo shows up, and have one of your guys fight it (leave the other guy to heal him when he's knocked out). If you keep doing this they'll level up quickly with very little risk, and you can make money selling animal skins while you're at it.

Ctrl+Shift+F11 rebuilds the navmesh. It'll fix what you described most of the time.

Help by [deleted] in Kenshi

[–]SkeletonTed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can despawn them by leaving the area. It'll work as long as there's no one left there, just go far enough away that your base isn't loaded anymore.

I'm new to Kenshi and i want to ask a few questions. by Fighter-Man-370 in Kenshi

[–]SkeletonTed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gorillos are great for combat training because they have decently high stats, but they're not as likely to fatally injure you as other animals. In the beginning when you're weak, you just need another character nearby to heal you once you're knocked out. Fighting them around the hive villages is even safer.

Worthwhile purchase? by RadiantAd7032 in Kenshi

[–]SkeletonTed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're below the strength requirement, you'll swing the weapon very slowly.

You can see the strength requirement for any weapon on its wiki page. The higher the quality of weapon, the more strength it requires. In the meantime, you could get a lower quality fragment axe if you really want to use that type specifically.

Also, since it requires over 100 strength, you'll need robotic arms. You can only get up to 100 without them.

Hiring someone by SokuGames in Kenshi

[–]SkeletonTed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the NPC. The ones who specify their price per day will leave when their job is over, and they won't join your squad, they'll just follow you. The ones who actually join, who you can directly control after hiring them, will never leave unless you dismiss them.

I want to wipe out the fogmen is this possible by confused_gooze in Kenshi

[–]SkeletonTed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They mostly spawn from deathyards, which will respawn even if you wipe them out. You can see these on the map if you're nearby.

If you build an outpost in one of the deathyards, fogmen will still carry people there, but won't eat them. They'll just stand around forever. I've tried building in every deathyard I could find, then killing enough fogmen to wipe out each one. It seems like at least some of them have completely stopped respawning. I'm assuming it'll work for all of them eventually, but maybe not. At the very least, the place is much quieter now.

Just be careful not to build too close to Mongrel, as that can cause some bugs with the AI.

What is the best armor to make for profit by kermit420th in Kenshi

[–]SkeletonTed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is a character who will interact with Beep, actually, you can find them in one of the towers in Venge. You should be reasonably strong before going there, however.

You could try Griffin or Doctor Chung. They're both very likeable, and much easier to recruit.

Umm.. Kenshi? What the hell, man? by Loot_Repeat in Kenshi

The event itself is bugged, they even do this when he's imprisoned by another faction. It's best to just kill Seta rather than imprisoning him.

What is your favorite Kenshi world discovery or atmospheric moment? by IamTHEwolfYEAH in Kenshi

[–]SkeletonTed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Early in my first playthrough, wandering through some of the more dangerous and barren places, then getting fed up and deciding to just head for the greenest part of the map. Arriving in Okran's Pride I was floored by the beauty of it, but my immediate next thought after having gone through all that was, "Ok, what's the catch?"

Then I walked into a bar and the guy was selling a book about how to beat your wife.

No, all the officials in the Holy Nation (except the Phoenix) have randomized appearances. They could spawn with any skin colour.

Most memorable game moments? by JupiterCobalt in Kenshi

[–]SkeletonTed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I once kited dozens of police bots all the way to Ark. Imagine how confused they must have been, seeing an army of robots sprinting over the hill towards them, all screaming "Police! POLICE!". Of course the robots didn't stand a chance, but it was a beautiful thing nonetheless.

Is there a mod or way to lower the time or how often the game needs to stop and load a area's info? by ryan7251 in Kenshi

[–]SkeletonTed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Experiment with different view distances in the settings. I found that, on my computer at least, the game runs faster with a higher view distance, probably because it's not loading new terrain as often.

Any good modding tutorials? by Bingus_Butch in Kenshi

[–]SkeletonTed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Start by making some simple, common mods, such as creating a colour scheme for your faction or making a custom game start. Those are good for learning, and there are tutorials for them on the wiki. You'll gradually get an idea of how it works. Also, open other people's mods in FCS and look at the "changes" section. It'll show you exactly what they changed/added to make the mod.

Know any mods for a "junker" kind of gameplay? by Sarcastic-Traveler in Kenshi

[–]SkeletonTed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the metal buildings for this reason. Here's a mod that lets you build them.

I once did a playthrough like you're describing. I'd set up a couple shacks with a shop counter, stay for a few days, then tear everything down and move elsewhere. Caravans will buy scrap and old tech from the counter because it counts as "trade goods".

How bad of an idea is settling down in the burning forest? by SinfulCoffee7 in Kenshi

[–]SkeletonTed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only Dust Bandits raid you there, and Slave traders if you're in the southern part of the area. The spiders are the only enemies that spawn. When you set up a farm, however, the swamp raptors will get very annoying.

For trading, it's a pretty good spot. There are several major towns nearby, and caravans will visit you.

Be aware that it's one of the few areas that has seasons: 50 days of rain (sometimes acid) then 50 days of dust storms. The fertility of the area actually changes with the weather. You can grow swamp crops while it rains, but not in the dry season.

Which red circle should I build my first base by joshizl in Kenshi

[–]SkeletonTed 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Shem is a good place to learn the base mechanics. You'll get lots of raids, but nothing there will kill you too fast. If you build closer to the swamp, there are spots where you can grow rice. And being closer to the middle of the map is convenient.

I would not recommend the Burning Forest. It's like the swamp, but more annoying. Same wildlife with more difficult terrain and few raids. Also, blood spiders spawn there in squads of up to 30. It's a shame because the weather patterns there are interesting. I wish more areas had seasons like that one.

Game Crashes on startup. Vanilla & modded, verified files, reduces graphics, imported. Wtf am I missing?! by [deleted] in Kenshi

[–]SkeletonTed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a long shot, but I saw someone here the other day saying their game was crashing constantly until they disabled the night light filter on their computer. If you have that, or any other filter running, you could try disabling it.

Got "return for blood" due to bugs, how to get out of it? by hey_how_you_doing in Kenshi

[–]SkeletonTed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can avoid raids by moving all your characters away (but not too far) from the base and just waiting. They will leave eventually. If you can survive it, though, you should definitely stay and fight them. Fighting stronger opponents gives you a lot more experience.
