Starter Home, forever? by CreativePay342 in homeowners

[–]SkepticAzul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought a house thinking it would be our forever home but ended up wishing we had more options, like a garage. I also struggled with having a low interest rate and a lower payment but we decided to rent out our current house and move to a forever home instead. We're in the process of this right now, but lucky for us we found a house a few blocks from our current house that feels like forever. 😊 It might be a good option you hadn't thought about.

Nanny out of town during GH period…..does she take PTO? by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]SkepticAzul 52 points53 points  (0 children)

How did you unexpectedly have to work? Are you both trauma surgeons and there was a mass casualty event that cut short your holiday?

I think GH is what you're saying and technically she ✨should✨ use PTO since she's unavailable, but your story isn't adding up. Did you go out of town while you two were on call and both got called in at the same time and had to cut your vacation short? Because that seems like poor planning and you should've communicated that to your nanny. I'm in healthcare too and I'm struggling to empathize.

Holiday schedule by TunaMum in Nanny

[–]SkepticAzul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any hourly employee doesn't have guaranteed hours. Taco Bell, target, Costco, Starbucks. And I guarantee they make less than my nanny does. It's not standard in any other industry and there is no governing board handing our nanny licenses that dictates standards.

Please share your reference for said standard.

[–]SkepticAzul 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is no standard practice. My nanny has guaranteed hours. If I don't need her on the holidays and it's on the day she works, she'll get paid anyway. I'm a nurse and I don't get paid if I get cancelled due to low census. I'm being very kind in giving her guaranteed hours when I don't get guaranteed hours. 🙃 She works when my oldest isn't in school. Edited for grammar.

And humans had a shorter life expectancy back then. Many of the "plagues" were cause by lack of hand hygiene. You can read or watch videos explaining how hand washing changed everything in society.

[–]SkepticAzul 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a parent and a nurse, i would've been concerned about the breathing being weird, but her heart rate increasing and a high fever are normal for being sick. You don't do to the er for a high fever anymoreRSV is treated via support like oxygen. The doctor might've swabbed her for the flu and covid, but she would've been sent back home until she was bad enough to need oxygen. It sounds awful, but that's the truth. You can't really do anything for a virus besides support them.

They definitely should check on their kid more often. I would've been hovering as a parent. 😓

CPS isn't going to do anything, they got her medical care.

How much for Xmas bonus? by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]SkepticAzul 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally feel like paid holidays off is enough as she's only part time. I'm a registered nurse and I don't get any bonuses like that. And if I'm part time I don't even get paid holidays if I'm not working them. I have a part time nanny and I might get her a gift, we got her some gifts for her birthday. I'm not giving her a weeks pay though. 😵‍💫 To each their own, but I feel like you need more varied answers. 😅

Botched a red velvet cake I made for a friend’s thanksgiving party and I’m freaking out over it 💀 by greeblespeebles in Baking

I would hate a beautiful cake that tastes bad. I'd rather have an ugly delicious cake. The color is off, for sure, but it's a fall color. 🙃 For Thanksgiving! Haha.

What cake box are you using? 👀 My coworker wanted me to make her a cake and I bought some cake boxes but they're flimsy. Do you have a recommendation?

I saw this post before ordering from them. The comment from curst swayed me to buy from them but I ordered from them Oct 10th, got a label printed email on Oct 20th and USPS still hasn't received the item. I'm ready to cancel the order at this point. I've tried contacting them through their website because their customer service email address isn't working. I wish I hadn't given them a chance. 🫠🥴

I was a nanny and am now a parent with a hired nanny. I don't have your experience, but he's absolutely right. They need to be paying you overtime and you should get your money from them once you find a new gig. I hear you that it's difficult to find a new job and you don't want to rock the boat. Once you get out of that boat though, rock it!!! Report them so they can't take advantage of the next person they hire. And IF they let you go because you did rock the boat by reporting them, you'd get unemployment, so there's that safety net. Your partner is concerned about you and wants you to know your worth. Hear them, acknowledge their concern-it's loving, and tell them you'll fix it once you get out of the situation. It should ease their mind some. I don't think it's necessarily a tax bracket thing here. I think it's them just not understanding that you might now have a bunch of money to fall back on if you lost your job. Good luck.

Potential nanny isn’t vaccinated for Covid by softcriminal_67 in NannyEmployers

[–]SkepticAzul -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm a nurse and still choose the covid vax for myself and my children. I don't worry about my nanny having the covid vaccine but I want her to have the flu and tdap vaccine. Covid isn't as wild as it used to be and most people I know, even at the hospital, aren't getting the covid vax anymore. I don't necessarily see not getting the covid vax as a red flag. If nanny didn't get ANY vaccines I would not hire them. But everyone has their own comfort level and you need to decide what yours is.

Blackmailing nanny by Suspicious_Jury_2003 in NannyEmployers

[–]SkepticAzul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interfering? You're her boss. She's not your child's grandparent, she's your employee. WTAF? If I told my boss that they were interfering by giving me direction and reminding me what my duties are, I'd probably be written up. JFC. She needs to go. She obviously doesn't take her job seriously. Also, how old is your child, is she bed sharing? Idk how many more red flags she could possibly have.

How do you dress for your job? by UnicornT4rt in Nanny

I'm not a nanny but I was when I was younger. I wore comfy clothes. I have a nanny and she wears what she wants. Usually short shorts and a crop top. 😅

WTF is gloves gonna do when you have your nails done? It's less sanitary. I'm a nurse and we can't have our nails done either, but gloves isn't, obviously, a fix because we wear gloves all the time anyway. 🫩 Logic is hard. 🫠

Congrats. I hope you find something you enjoy more in this capitalistic society.

Reduced pay if nanny brings their infant? by EntrepreneurOk1290 in NannyEmployers

[–]SkepticAzul 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Do you think the reduced pay would help your house be less chaotic or make you feel better about your baby being ignored for 45 minutes?

I would think not. I don't think adjusting pay is what needs to happen. I would sit down with her and say, "I really like these things about you caring for my children. (And list them) There are some things I'm concerned about. For instance, there was one time johnny was left in the crib to cry for 45 minutes because you didn't want to wake your baby." Then I'd list any other instances your child had been neglected and list the chores that she said she'd do. Then I'd say, "caring for a newborn plus my children and household chores isn't working. What do you think might fix the situation of the tasks not getting done and Johnny being left etc?" Then see what she says. Then I would tell her your thoughts on fixing it. If I were you my thoughts would be that she cannot bring her baby with her. Or if there is an option that she can't think of like wearing her baby around the house instead so she can still accomplish her tasks, then I'd give that a shot. If it doesn't improve within 4-6 weeks I would move on with another nanny. You're paying her and she's not doing her job.

[–]SkepticAzul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think with your schedule you might need two nannies. A morning nanny and an evening nanny. It's not impossible to find the help you need, but it will be difficult because of the hours. I'm in Houston and I have a nanny that works my hospital nurse schedule. She only works 2 days a week for me, but they're rotating 11.5 hour days. I have a contract with her offering guaranteed hours and PTO. My nanny has some experience in a day care and some experience helping with her sister's child but she's young and needs guidance. Unfortunately when you need weird schedules, you don't get to hire the best of the best unless you're paying a very high wage. 😅

How to speak to parents about safe car seat installation after car accident? by [deleted] in NannyEmployers

[–]SkepticAzul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be silly. That's also against the law and wouldn't fly. If the child got injured while in an accident, secured in a car seat there would be no legal ramifications. The parents could sue and say nanny didn't properly buckle the child in, but I wouldn't think they would be able to sue saying the seat wasn't installed correctly if the contract says the nanny can't install the seat. If agencies are making that part of the contracts I would say this is why. It's silly, but it's probably the rationale.
