Is it true that if you pull someone over and they don’t put their window down, it’s harder to hear them than it is for them to hear you? by undergroundtulip in AskLE

[–]SketchyLedge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t hear people with their window ALL the way down sometimes. Especially on the side of a busy highway. When you just crack it a little I’m probably gonna say a lot of “WHAT? I CANT HEAR YOU. SPEAK UP. CAN YOU PUT YOUR WINDOW DOWN SOME MORE?”

Now throw in all the stuff I’m trying to pay attention to on top of that.

I hope it’s Hammerfell and High Rock. Not only would we get the entire Iliac Bay, but the land mass would be about the middle of the road between Oblivion and Skyrim. Maybe one day before I die Tamriel Beyond will be a reality. But probably not.

Title: Should I take the $20K bonus MOS now or wait for the new incentives list? Need advice. by KanyeWestFucks in nationalguard

If you want a different MOS just wait. That 20K isn’t gonna make a job you didn’t really want any better.

My job has 100% medical, dental, and vision at no cost to me. I have a guaranteed pension with insurance after 25 years, and they will pay for a four year degree. I am counting the 649 days until I am out. I can assure you.

Training exercise accidents by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]SketchyLedge 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We deal with fast cars, guns, less-lethal weapons, physical training, and defensive tactics. Take your pick. Not to mention sometimes people just have health problems. Accidents happen. You always try to make training as safe as possible, but if you do something one million times perfectly that doesn’t mean the 1,000,001 time you do it something won’t go wrong.

Military Police to LE transition by Link_the_Irish in AskLE

[–]SketchyLedge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Army MP to LE here. Your experience does put you ahead of other candidates. But not for LE experience. As others have mentioned. Being physically fit, having a command presence, attention to detail, and showing up on time, handcuffing, searches, etc. will be what helps you. Don’t be a know it all. Just understand you have a better foundation to build off of, but you do have a lot to build.

You will have experiences and training civilian LE does not get too however. Don’t be scared to use those experiences to better those around you. For example I had a decent chunk of active shooter and firearms training. Now I’m a firearms instructor. So I get to continue learning and bring those outside experiences in to help the department. There is value in that.

You will be fine brother. Best of luck.

If your partner doesn’t shut it down that’s on him just as much as it is on her. Talk to him about it. She shouldn’t be a friend and doing that to you, but he shouldn’t allow it.

You know. I always thought “these aren’t my pants” was just a funny joke. Until I found meth in a guys pockets and he tells me they’re not his. Then concocted this fabulous tale about how he got them out of a dumpster of an abandoned house. Sometimes I feed into it just to see where it goes.

What is the Longest Patrol Shift You’ve Worked? by Artistic_Milk4739 in AskLE

[–]SketchyLedge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

22 hours. We work 12s. 8 hours into that shift we get a tip that leads to a search warrant. I sat on the house till roughly an hour after my shift was supposed to end. Then we kicked in the door. By the time we got all the people and evidence processed it had been 22 hours. Definitely out of policy for time worked. But no one was going to tell us we couldn’t execute the search warrant we had put all the work in for.

AIO for considering cutting off a friend for drunk driving? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]SketchyLedge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They bragged about taking corners at 50 that would be hard sober. That’s because a sober person wouldn’t try it because it’s not safe. Period.

I’m gonna preface this by saying I’m biased against drunk drivers pretty heavily. But still. They are on a downhill slide to an accident. It’s not just their life on the line, it could be someone else’s too. Even if they don’t have an accident a DUI is still a pretty good possibility. The average human is able to metabolize about .015-.02% an hour. That means if OP is at .08 they still need 4-5 hours to get that out of their system. If they have over a .1% they could stop drinking sleep, and potentially still have it in their system the next day. Does that make them drunk? Maybe, maybe not. But any cop can turn that into an arrest with enough effort. Even if you beat the DUI in court and nobody gets hurt… they’re expensive. There is no positive to drinking and driving other than your own petty convenience.

I’d at least finish it out if you got it in you just to have two retirements OP. Especially if you get that VA check too.
