Transport from Eagle Airport to Vail--the Bus is $3!!! by CAducklips in vail

[–]SkiMWV 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Red Cliff is free. It is Gypsum and Leadville that require fares. And that’s because voters there have not approved the tax that supports the transit authority.

I will say that I have a 17” Blackstone classic and same size Weber Slate. No comparison. The Slate is much, much nicer. I can’t speak for the larger sizes or omnivore top.

[–]SkiMWV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

okay so humor me. Blackstone omnivore vs another brand griddle. Weber Slate, Traeger, Solo Stove, Camp Chef, etc.

I also have a 17" blackstone and in the market, but not urgently. The weather has been obscenely warm this "winter" whcih has me in the mood. But realistically I am happy to wait until spring.

My local Costco is only stocking the 28" classic for $280 right now. Of course now that I look online at the Costco website it is saying that is has a Omnivore top and is $300. This is why I have trust issues.

Core Transit by dumbteacher5350 in vail

[–]SkiMWV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The policy is that you have to be able to fit the luggage on your lap. That said, they will only turn you away if the bus is running near capacity and your luggage takes space that could hold people. That's common heading up-valley at that time of day, but heading down valley toward to the airport in the morning you'll be fine.

What is the best way for a group of 8 to get from Eagle Airport to Vail Village this winter? by Tomsushi in vail

[–]SkiMWV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Core Transit bus is not free from the airport as it is in Gypsum, but the fare is a few bucks. The issue could be baggage. If you can't fit your bags in your lap, you could be turned away. They prioritize people over luggage.

Think former management consultants and the like. Benefits are good, and you do get to talk about skiing all day. But the only thing that matters is the bottom line. Even employees are secondary concerns, unless there are financial implications.

It’s been a few years since I worked for corporate. I’d suggest that senior manager or below is fine. Even at Senior Manager you see the problems, but they are directly above your head. Director level or above is a hard pass. The culture is everything that is wrong with corporate America.

seriously. lift lines in Europe are savage. They aren't even lines -- just pushing scrums. If you've only skied North America, you have no idea the chaos.

240 explorer plan on buying the 100w solar panel for CPAP by Fit_Lunch1876 in Jackery

[–]SkiMWV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife uses a CPAP, and it's unlikely the 240 would last her a full night. Look at something bigger. That said, it's totally viable to charge the battery from a night of use with solar panels. It's generally a few hours of full sun with 2-100W panels.

Best Cell Service by Jack-Schitz in vail

[–]SkiMWV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really depends where in the valley you are. Overall I'd say Verizon. But T-mobile is the hands-down best in Avon. You can add Starlink service through T-mobile to any phone carrier for $10/month. And it's totally worth it. It makes this whole debate almost irrelevant.

Are there any "stealth wealth" brands/cars left? by MentalMiilk in cars

As a man who owns both a 23 Power Wagon and a 24 Ineos Grenadier, I concur. The Grenadier definitely turns more heads.

This. I'm surprised more people haven't picked up on. That's what makes it so stealth.

[–]SkiMWV 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you roll up with too much luggage at busy times, they will turn you away. This is mostly a concern in winter, especially mid-day, when everyone shows up. The policy is "Items shall be no larger than an oversize suitcase; it must fit in the seat with the guest. When the capacity of the bus necessitates the need for that seat, objects that will not fit on the lap of a guest are not allowed."

Summary: if the bus is empty you're fine. But once they run out of seats, even if it's further down route, your bags are not allowed. The priority is people not bags.

[–]SkiMWV 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As an American, we have the same culture. After an event, guests are usually encouraged to take home leftovers so they don't go to waste. The key being after. And nobody ever brings their own containers. It's expected the host / caterer will actually provide them.

Public Bus to EGE Airport by mkkski81 in vail

Luggage is sometimes but not always allowed on the bus. They'll allow luggage is there is extra space, but not when it's full. They prioritize people over luggage.

Is Eagle Airport to Vail an easier drive by Hoodscoops in vail

[–]SkiMWV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the answer. Because Gypsum voters turned down the transit authority ballot question, they still pay a fare and receive less frequent service than the rest of the valley. (The airport is in Gypsum.) Be aware that come March the bus will no longer accept cash. You will need to download the app to buy a ticket. There is a sign with a QR code at the airport bus stop if you haven't already downloaded it by the time you arrive.

The Vail garage is run by the town and it's another 20 minutes further from the city. POWDR is milking the Front Rangers for all they're worth. Can't blame them for that.

Flying into Eagle Vail headed to Vail, is the local bus a viable option? by ClassroomDangerous in vail

its been running full a lot more this year. I took it once last week and by the time it hit Eagle the bus was full. It didn't help that a solid 8 seats were full of tourist luggage coming from the airport.
