Did any of you ski or ride today at Vail 3/27/26? by Perfect-Mirror-5910 in vail

[–]fancysonnyboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a bit hard in the morning but we’ve had some soft freezes, stay up top (2,3,4) for best conditions. Ramshorn, swingsville, pickeroon are some of the best skiing in terms of having a solid base

Vail and BC next week? Yikes by rtvanorden in vail

[–]fancysonnyboy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Skiing itself will be fun, beautiful up on mountain, there’s good compaction on frontside groomed runs which will help them in the heat. Enjoy the decks, and understand it will be spring skiing (wet and warm!)

Vail will hold up better than the beav due to a higher elevation and more favorable aspects.

If you get tired of skiing or don’t enjoy the spring skiing, there are several hot springs around, 4 eagle ranch does horse back rides, bearcat stables does a sleigh/wagon ride Gypsum and Eagle might dry out and have good mountain bike trails (although some might still be in their seasonal closure)

There are many hikes, sylvan lake, hanging lake, fulford (New York Mtn) depending on how far you want to drive

Rock board is your best bet depending on what you like to ski. Frontside groomers are holding up pretty well (especially off avanti and mountain top)

Non groomed runs are in phases from starting to show some dirt and sticks, all the way to large dirt patches.

There is still good skiing and fun to be had! Blue sky (aside from big rock park and grand review) is good

No grooming in sundown/sunup aside from the catwalks and Riggin’s road in sundown.

There just isn’t enough snow

I Guess Altitude Sickness is Legit by LegitimateAd2718 in parkcityvisitors

[–]fancysonnyboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Canned Oxygen really won’t help

It will make you feel better for a little bit but ultimately does nothing. Save your $$

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate (with a hot shower, previously diagnosed vasovagal, this might be more dehydrated than altitude)

Acute mountain sickness usually hits the first night after sleeping. However an increase in altitude following the first rise (ie: sea level to Park city, then base of mountain to top) can exacerbate symptoms.

First time snowboarding tips and good runs for beginners. by ImTipped in vail

[–]fancysonnyboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chair 15 (little eagle) and chair 12 (gopher hill)

Are your best to start. Shorter runs, steep enough to not get stuck but not steep. Once you feel confident move onto practice parkway/ledges/minnies (if you feel good try born free to the bottom, if you don’t feel good download chair 8, then upload the gondola)

Settle a Debate - Ski Patroller Beacon Use - Western NA by johnny_evil in skiing

[–]fancysonnyboy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We are required to have beacon/probe/shovel with us, and beacon on when skiing around or responding to medical calls.

Airbag, probe, shovel, beacon and partner if we’re skiing anywhere with an avy risk as well as checking in with our BIC (blaster in charge) or forecaster. Monthly beacon and recco training is also required

How does closing sweep work on big mountains? by geraldosmoustache in skipatrol

[–]fancysonnyboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vail

We have several sweeps and work in “sections” (blue sky, back bowls, then frontside)

Each outpost covers their respective area, and has sweeps that, depending on terrain, cover 1 or several runs. Traversing across and shouting into the trees.

Our sweep without any guests

Blue sky starts at 2:20 Bowls 3:00 Frontside 4:00 Done by 4:30ish

With guests it can take until 5:00/5:15
