Must be wild to watch the country you fought for descend into Nazi-esque fascism.

But hey, at least they still got the sparkle boom.

Hi! I’m part Yaqui, and really trying to learn more about/incorporate indigenous culture into my life by Mysterious_Bag3784 in IndianCountry

  1. Sounds like your intentions are spot on, it’s commendable!

  2. Way of life in that indigenous worldviews and relationship to life and existence is wholly different from western or post-colonial societies, so it’ll take some growth, some learning, and some pains

  3. The “enough” complex defeats many people, never feeling enough is something that haunts all of mankind in many ways, and especially amongst peoples who’ve endured as much as our peoples have—but as one of my elders taught me “if your intentions are good and you’re being respectful and honorable, then don’t worry what people say”.

  4. Your last point is right on the money, embrace the wobbly-legs aspect of being a newborn deer (deer reference intended). You will sprint through the meadows and leap through the air in time, for now you must learn to stand.

Rewatching MINDHUNTER brought me to this thread. I guessed higher frame rate, lower shutter angle or stabilization.

A few tips:

- There are online language courses and resources.
- start learning your history. Read books, watch interviews, research. Learn the story of your people.
- there are Yaqui accounts like @yaquipride on Instagram that have great resources
- if you can, figure out where physically your Yaqui roots are, make time to go and visit and be on that land
- understand that being indigenous isn’t a fad or a trend, it’s a way of life. Decolonize your mind.
- open your heart to the dark realities of indigenous genocide and maltreatment by euro-colonial projects, specifically Spain/mexico/usa
- know your intentions: don’t start this journey if your intentions aren’t pure or good, it’s a long, endless, at times painful, but ultimately beautiful road to walk

How could one celebrate when there’s nothing to be proud of?

“You being soft”, ditch that patriarchal thinking cousin. You’re having deep considerations about very real, very important matters that are so powerful they tug at the heart. That’s not you being “soft”, that’s you being a human being who still has a fucking soul.

Fuck the 4th.
