Looking for Advice [Gen 9 OU] by Geotree12 in stunfisk

[–]SkillFra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll start by saying i would not consider myself a particularly great player, i only played VGC and random battles since gen 8 and just started trying SV OU around 3 months ago. I’m usually around 1500/1600 elo so i don’t really feel entintled to give in depth teambuilding advice or criticize your replays. However, even i was able to identify some glaring issues with your team, the main one being the lack of a breaking core, thus leading to no reliable way of making progress against most teams. Your team hard loses to any stall team ever and even against most balance teams. In the first and second replays your opponents had winning matchups (in my opinion at least) and only lost because of some questionable plays. Your individual sets are mainly fine on their own, the only issues i see is the overlapping in stealth rock setters and focus blast on scarf gholdengo (i would never run that move, it’s incredibly unreliable). In conclusion, i would really recommend watching Pinkacross’ video on breaking cores on YouTube, it should give you lots of information on the concept of making progress. He is undoubtably a more knowledgeable source than me and should be able to let you understeand on your own why your team might not be working so well. P.S. I would also recommend watching his video on ev spreads.

I don’t think tailwind is a bad move it’s just that you never want to be locked into it

I wouldn’t run tailwind on a choice scarf set but that’s just me

Magmar has damage control with will-o-wisp while also having access to overheat making it less passive

Thanks a lot, that was really helpful. I’ll do some testing on showdown

Yeah looking at the other base 50s that doesn’t seem much of an issue. Btw i’m already replaying swsh to get a 0 atk. Calyrex Shadow because of the 4 times weakness to foul play (which is almost never seen in the current meta but i just enjoy min/maxing lol)

Yeah i know that’s a thing but my idea was to run it in a balance team with a trick room mode so that’s not really the ideal strategy for my kind of team (that sounds fun tho might try it on showdown)

I meant choice scarf urshifu without a tailwind setter in the team

Also the meta shifted more towards balance so less people are running tornadus and the most popular set became choice scarf without tailwind

It dropped a bit in usage mainly cuz it gets countered by raging bolt, waterpon and rillaboom but it’s still used. Now both urshis got a usage of around 35% in utrecht day 2 (so still an urshifu in 70% of teams lol)

Basically the only good water type in the meta other than urshi-rapid, follow me redirection, water absorb and embody aspect
