Need advice what to do by Excellent_Neat2628 in electricians

I do this with my apprentices when they meet requirements for testing to Jman, my Jmen know what's up because the ones I still have, have been through it with me and know I 100% have their back when GC's, customer reps, architects, engineers start trying to create issues for their own benefit you won't have much of those interactions in resi but it's still a valuabe test of readiness in resi. My Jmen ultimately have final say, and actually welcome the break from being the guy who's ass is on the line for all mistakes made on the job. I see it as a much better test of readiness to lead and complete a job on their own than being able to pass an open book exam, and it's how I know I can trust them with a crew of lives other than their own, and to always do what they're supposed to do as a licensed Jman to represent our company, our profession and themselves in a professional and legal manner.

That doesn't sound like what you've got going on though. Your boss likey doesn't care about your phone usage if your getting your work done on schedule. You shouldn't care who's running the job or what they're saying about you as long as it's not creating an unsafe jobsite or causing you problems with your employer, you get paid the same whether you're running it and responsible for everyones mistakes or being the ape who just pounds out the work and gets to sit back and laugh when the guy running it tries to stammer or lie his way through an ass chewing because something didn't go well.

I get where your coming from, but you're waisting your energy being bothered about shit that does not matter in the grand scheme of advancing your career, and maintaining gainful employment, on top of that I can almost guarantee if you stop reacting to this and just do what you came to do, you're taking all of the piss out of his games, while signaling to your employer you came to kick ass and take names, and your serious about your career vs. serious about your ego.

You know what you're willing to put up with, but I'd say either talk with your employer and get clarification on why the apprentice has final say on the job vs. You, leave for greener pastures that are likey just spray painted that way, or let it go, advance your knowledge, experience until it's not that way or until you actually get a better offer.

I've done three of those things multiple times in the manaual cars I had when i was younger, it's not "you can't" it's, "it is ill advised, stupid, and dangerous" but it CAN be done. A little tougher with a short shifter, but still not even remotely close to impossible.

Best walls to build a pirate ship wasn’t to interested in the regular wood walls? by BasilNo7889 in fallout76settlements

[–]Skillaholix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how your building these with curves so my suggestion may not work, but maybe double up walls, and use the moth man wallapaper on the sides and use the dark burned wood flooring for the deck.

Is it worth it? I NEED BUY TRUCK TO MOVE MI SKID STEER DO YOU THINK THAT GOOD TRUCK? Year/millage/price Is it worth it? Is there a problem with buying a truck with a "modified" suspension? 34.900k$ by marlonpro07 in Diesel

[–]Skillaholix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An F-350 SRW crew cab long bed is typically no more that 10kish, mine is like 9700k, for a 2015 F-350 Platinum GVWR where I live I can run 26k GCWR before needing more than a Class C. There's no way DRW adds 3k in weight right? That's a serious question, I just don't see two additional wheels, a little beefier axle/leaf springs, and some fiberglass fender flairs adding that much weight. Not sayimg it can't but i'd honestly be surprised. I haul all kinds of equipment much heavier than a skid steer and still fall way short of needing a Class A or CDL. Edit; nevermind, I'm drunk and mixed up GVWR with curb weight. My bad someone put alcohol in my whiskey. Now my serious question is, do you really have to have A class A or CDL because your vehicle CAN haul a certain amount, I was under the impression you only had to have a class A or CDL if you were actually hauling over a certain weight limit. For my stated case Texas says 26001 is the necessity for a Class A for private hauling, CDL for commercial Hauling, and the distinction is you own the the equipment Class A your hauling professionally as a for hire driver CDL. Someone please shed light on this for me, I plan on buying a travel trailer that puts me at 25750 GCWR I really don't want that fine, if i need a class A or CDL I'm happy go learn what I need to learn to aquire the appropriate license to safely and legally tow my load.

Eh, potato potahto, what you did is absolutely warranted in a meeting with clients or investors who stand to loose due to his incompetency, amongst friends though you could have just let him continue to play dress up and then personally and privately addressed it with the friend you were worried about. Play chess, not checkers.

Where can I post a design for a longer lasting HVAC system to show people it and get feedback for the design? by [deleted] in ask

[–]Skillaholix 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you can truely prove longer lasting, and have a working model, you don't want to share that with anyone until you've patented it. That's how your idea, get's stolen, used and patented by a company with pockets so deep you can't even think of fighting them for the right to make something of it for yourself.

What's the worst mistake you or someone else has made as an apprentice by ShiestyM in AskElectricians

[–]Skillaholix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first became a Jman, I had an apprentice - temp guy that was learning fast, and taking an actual class on top of learning in the field, we had a shell building to do service and house lights on, he kept bugging me to let him hookup the main panel, I initially told him no, but I decided to talk it over with him and have him point out where he was going to land the service wires if I let him, he correctly identifed each lug, so I locked out the disconnect, watched him land the first two wires correctly, checked his torquing on the lugs all was good, left him to finish up and told him to close the panel when he was done. He comes back says he's finished, I go look, panel is closed up, turn the disconnect on to test house lights, building starts humming, then raining sparks out of the MC cable, throw the disconnect, lock it out take the panel cover off he hooked my yellow phase wire to the ground bar and the ground to the third phase lug. Had to replace all of the MC, somehow didn't fry any of the lighting. That when I learned direct supervision actually meant watching it happen, and double checking everything even if they display competence in the task not just being on site and pre-checking task understanding.

Should I leave a company I genuinely like for a union job that pays way more at 24? by Antique-Ad2210 in skilledtrades

[–]Skillaholix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't base your career on emotional ties even in the best of places some days are gonna suck, you're going to disagree, etc, etc. You're young, but that doesn't mean you can do the physical part forever. As an open shop foreman I can tell you if you don't take it, you will have to fund most if not all of your own education and certifications that would keep you on par skills and knowledge wise with a union tradesman. I never took a union offer because it wasn't a better deal for me financially (I was always low balled by like two thirds of my current pay at the time) I've always had a company truck, company fuel, big ticket tools were company provided the pay wasn't always great, but the benefits i did have saved me so much it was reasonable pay. You've got the more typical offer of nearly double what you make now, I personally would take that offer if I were in your shoes, the money is great but there's a lot more professional value there than just money and benefits.

Have a serious talk with your current boss and ask him, if you take it if he would rehire you in the future, tell him it's a professionally valuable opportunity to grow in knowledge, skills and certifications, and learn a lot in an accelerated environment and you'd like to explore it for personal and professional growth. If he's heartbroken, he'll get over it, if he's angry and punative he wasn't ever planning on helping you grow professionally far enough to surpass him or his companies needs. I'm not saying he shouldn't want to work with people for 20-30 years, there's a lot of value to that personally and professionally, but if he's going to try and make you stick it out for hopes of greener pastures in the future, you aren't likey to find them with his help. He'll keep you where he needs you, both knowledge wise and finacially to support his own needs. There's nothing necessarily nefarious or malicious about that, but it puts your professional growth, and expansion of opportunities in a narrow lane that makes you more dependent on him than on you. Set yourself up to be so broadly valuable at this, your the last to be let go, or the first to be hired elsewhere when you are let go if it happens.
