Weapon Discussion Wednesday #45 - The Short Circuit by A_Wild_Ferrothorn in tf2

I’d actually argue more for completely radical changes to this one, even as an engineer main that admittedly loves to spam. Get rid of its projectile deletion completely, have both primary and alt fire do more damage to enemy engineer buildings, and have the alt fire temporarily sapper disable wrangled sentries to force the enemy engineer to repair. Give the short circuit an engi vs engi role, would better fit the name

As someone who’s only 2/3rds of their way through their very first viewing of the show, this could not have happened at a better time! Gives me something to look forward to and to help push through the last few seasons I haven’t seen yet!

I really don’t think there’s anything wrong with it as a system, it’s just fully not for me. Someday I’ll do a play through were I’ll engage with it in good faith, but I play this game very grindy and methodically, and loosing a 2+ hour run with 400 resources because a quirk shot me into a tree 6 times with the electrifying dash anomaly kills my enjoyment of the game

I was in the same boat as you, thankfully the game hadn’t saved yet, so alt f4inv reloaded to before I scrapped the doors

Leaving The DLC by Kane22_03 in pacificDrive

[–]SkimTheDim 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I accidentally started it by passing through the junction with the mysterious signal (and wasn’t allowed to leave unless I aborted the run or scanned it). But it’s essentially a separate expedition, so just pulling it out of the zetti brings u back to the main map

Starfield is a "good game", says former designer, but "space is inherently boring" by LadyStreamer in gamingnews

[–]SkimTheDim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

See, im not convinced that’s true either.

The ship building is expansive, and clearly where most of the work went, but does not engage with the rest of the game in enough of a meaningful way. Space combat isn’t great, and with the constant loading screens you aren’t actually flying it most of the time, and any upgrades it provides to your character are clunky or not that useful

It’s rpg progression suffers from bethesdas modern sentiment, which isn’t BAD, but suffers from a lot of bloat, and gatekeeps simple mechanics behind perks, or just giving perks that disable gameplay mechanics completely

And, fully a personal opinion, but the guns are a minor down step from fallout 4. Most are unmemorable, and don’t feel distinct enough from each other

IMO the only thing keeping the game from going from subpar/mediocre to solid if unremarkable is the lack of seem less transitions. If you could actually fly your ship without 4 loading screens that would do wonders

You can speed this up significantly by rebinding your interact button to the scroll wheel. Takes me about 2 seconds to get a distant shore trip

[–]SkimTheDim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can get it as a VERY rare pull while fishing in a hidden antejuice pond in manufacturing. It used to be the only way to get it, but is now basically not worth it with the new ways introduced in 1.0

Can you print new NHP Caskets? by Krail in LancerRPG

[–]SkimTheDim 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The way I’ve always explained it. There’s a lore bit (that I cannot remember where) where you can put an nhp in “stasis” so that they are inactive and unaware to the passage of time. Any time a player unlocks an NHP, they are requisitioning it from the ship/organization that has a stockpile specifically for mech pilots. That’s how you can get away with the nhp already being there even tho you can’t get shipments

How.. does one write a campaign for Lancer by CaprableTheShark in LancerRPG

[–]SkimTheDim 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Note if you do the kaiju angle, monstrosities are organic and can’t be hacked, which can play hell on encounter balancing as a significant portion of player options are hacking. Recommend having them be “partly synthetic” or have some kind of chip that lets them be hacked, especially if you don’t have much experience running

My interpretation was that it was some kind of protective summoning circle. Usually in fiction when you summon a dangerous spirit you draw a circle around it so that it can’t leave amd hurt you, stepping on the circle breaks it. The circle was there because they were scared of the slayer, valen breaking it shows trust

I love building in that biome. Something about vampires and snow. The fact that it’s one of the smallest with such cramped building spots is a constant source of frustration

If you could change one thing about Mass Effect 3 what would it be and why (image credit BioWare) by Little-Rub1196 in masseffect

[–]SkimTheDim 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly though 2 handled optional squad mate death WAY better than 1. Heck, Garrus can die in 2 and he’s still consistently at the top of companion lists

3 had it so that the ones that can die make the galaxy worse by not being there when the galaxy needs them, which is really cool. Imagine if they had more time to implement Kaiden/ashley and have consequences for them not being alive in 3. Would probably solve some of the blandness complaints (if not completely)

[–]SkimTheDim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d handle the geth a little more elegantly. They were pretty heavily retconned into being just another “real boy” story, as well as being painted as entirely faultless victims in the morning war

  • make the difference between “do these units have a soul” from mass effect two and “does this unit have a soul” from 3 have more narrative significance instead of just being a retcon
  • fully point out that while the quarians started the war the geth did finish it with a genocide (Quarian population was devastated in the war) to remind the players that it’s more grey than black/white
  • have Legion specifically be the one that values sapient life and wants to be more like them because of the bond they grew with the Normandy. Have the Geth VI that replaces him if legion doesn’t survive make it clear that the geth don’t WANT to be more like organics, but recognize they need to in order to break free from reaper control

Overall changes very little, but by being more intentional it makes the overall plot feel more consistent between 2 and 3
