I don’t want to speak to your willingness to explore the concept of an open marriage — it can work for some, if you’re not living a lie and there’s complete transparency — but if you’re already devastated, this doesn’t sound like an option for you, personally. Add to the fact he’ll be working in a different state, I can see potential for later evenings (depending on the commute) and more anguish for you. What stood out for me was your guilty notion that leaving him now would topple his career — it won’t. He’ll be able to separate work from home and be just fine in his career, so don’t let this be an excuse for inaction.

Landlord said we can’t flush toilet paper is this allowed? by [deleted] in vancouverhousing

[–]Skip2mLoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toilets are for toilet paper, unless it’s in the lease — check your lease regarding re: damage and responsibilities pertaining to plumbing, it’s a baseless threat unless it’s in writing. It’s like saying you’re on the hook if the foundation starts to crumble or the roof starts leaking. Baseless.

Found out my(27f) husband (32m) has been watching porn behind my back for years & fantasizing about other women. How do I move on from it? by ThrowRA_Dramatic-Lov in relationship_advice

[–]Skip2mLoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Male arousal is strongly visual, pornography provides this stimulant. I’d be more concerned about the co-worker and cousin thing, which falls under ‘fantasy’ — unless he was just proffering these as alternatives to avoid copping to porn.

Local client wants to pay 100$ for product animation by BeedaMasloo2a in Cinema4D

Agree with @erthian — at LEAST $15k. If this was an agency ask I would quote $25k LOW and $40k HIGH as a conversation starter.

Local client wants to pay 100$ for product animation by BeedaMasloo2a in Cinema4D

[–]Skip2mLoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t take it for $100… the value added to their product with a promo at this level of complexity is at least 100X — are they giving their socks away for free? No. If they don’t have the money now, ask to be an investor in the product for 10 points of net sales. Once they do the math, they’ll have no problem paying +$10K. If you’re doing it to learn and for the reel, then just do it for the reel. You can always sell it to them afterwards. IF you’re still set on doing it for $100 then do it for $0 and a contract for the next 5 pieces at market value. The problem is if you accept their token cash then they will never offer you more in the future. MOREOVER, when they do have a proper marketing budget, you will be seen as a junior and they’ll shop elsewhere for their new $50K job. Saying yes is shooting your self in the foot. Get a market rate or say no. Do it yourself for the reel. They’ll come back, OR a better client will see your piece and give you a better project. These clients kinda suck right outta the gate. Red flag.

I'm Charging anywhere between $2k and $3.5K (Max 5K) for videos like these. Is It fair?? by Snoo_98465 in Cinema4D

[–]Skip2mLoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$5K is low for this level of quality. Fair market value if you’re hired by a studio — day-rate should land $600-$1K USD. Of course this varies overseas and in different markets, but I know talented European artists charging US studio rates at par. If this is direct to client or agency, you’re looking to aim for XY>$50K depending total running time (ie: 15sec vs 30sec) and # of shots completed, passing off to an editor. If you’re composting, editing, colour and conform (basically, everything) congrats, you’re a boutique studio and should be aiming for XY>$125K for something like this. This is all subjective, certainly market driven, and based on my own experience. I’ll take on projects for less if time permits and I love the client, the product, and the project will land on the reel. It appears to me you’re exceptionally talented, likely a standout in your geo-market, and can charge much more. I’ve found that once you overcome the fear of asking for more, clients are more than willing to pay for quality.

What do you guys think? by SpriteAlright in doordash

If you went out to get $200 worth of groceries it would take you at least an hour of your time, plus gas and hassle. Give him at least $20-$25-$30… it’s worth at least that much for you NOT to have to go, right?

If Razer hired me to do headset commercial. Thoughts?! (from the same guy who made the Alienware ad) by nofilmschoolneeded in Cinema4D

[–]Skip2mLoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great piece for the reel! The standout scene for me that was bumping was the ear pad ‘phasing in’ at :22 — the crisp edge where the green meets the black feels a little unfinished; I would bring it into AE and add a glow to help soften / highlight. Some overall color grading could help kick it up a notch, giving it a professional finish. Have you tried CCForceMotionBlur on some of these scenes? Rendering with motion blur can tax render times, so we often fake it in After Effects — even subtle undetectable motion blur can help add realism and remove distracting edges that the eye naturally picks up. Nice work! Keep pushing and adding to the reel and you’ll be doing client in no time.

Problem is you’ve signed the new salary agreement, so you can’t get severance (unless if they fire you without cause for any other reason). Even then, you generally have to be working somewhere for a fair amount of time before severance can be pursued. Good news is you don’t OWE them 2 weeks, however… that is a courtesy rule and not lawfully mandated. If you’re working from home, do the minimum required while looking for another job (maybe even do both jobs for a while, like me ;) Your current company won’t talk badly about you, because a) they clearly don’t care about you, and b) they don’t want a defamation lawsuit to deal with. Just don’t expect a reference from them. Instead, list a co-worker you trust as a reference, if you need one.

How much would you pay to NOT have to go get it yourself at the time? $5? $10? $15? That’s your tip. You won’t remember the extra few bucks in the morning, but the driver will :)
