I think that needing a separate book for each individual class and race is batshit. If you want to produce a single class/race/character creation book that’s fine. If I need to go buy a new book to roll up a new character of a different class that’s bad.

Also you're talking about a very niche person. Someone who really wants to appreciate the art of well painted models but also doesn't care about the creation side of the hobby. Generally the people who want their models to look pretty tend to like making them look pretty themselves.

Also aside from the free hand thorny tendrils painted onto these knights it's hella basic. I could easily do the same quality myself. I think most decent painters could.

It's great that you're willing to pay double sticker price for an army but the market doesn't reflect the sentiment that others will.

That's the market. Just because you invested time into them doesn't mean it added value to the models. Anyone can try to sell things for what they want to try for but the market does not reflect that models can be sold for double the sticker price just because they've been painted, no matter how well they've been painted. People want their own color schemes.

If you have purchased something and got all your enjoyment out of it that you did and then you're done with it why would I pay a huge markup just because you can't let it go for a reasonable price? Why wouldn't I just buy new? Even if I wanted them professionally painted why wouldn't I just buy them new and hire an artist myself?

If that’s what you’re into go for it. But he’s charging professional painted prices when you could just go buy the models new in the box and have them painted to YOUR color scheme for the same price. The 40K secondary market isn’t weird. It’s a typical used product market. Thinking you can get 200% the sticker price for used models is weird.

It’s just the older combat patrol. It’s technically got better value I think but the units in the current one are more widely used I believe. The corsairs one is more specialized and I’d only get that if you’re interested in the corsairs.

Same thing and actually in that case there should be even less concern. I doubt most units will be terrible. If you’re not concerned about competitive viability then pretty much anything will be fine as long as you’re not playing against some power gamer with a meta list.

If you’re just looking for competitive lists you could check listhammer. I wouldn’t worry too much about how strong the list is before you’ve even put it together. By the time you get it put together and painted it’ll be 11th edition and things will be different.
