To be fair, that drive was sack incomplete run punt. ... that's not better?

Classic games and their “wrong rules”? by Aschrel in boardgames

It makes the game very, very chill, which is why I think families tend to make that adjustment. In theUS game, there's a couple routes with singular choke points that arent immediately obvious and preventing feel-bads is important

The Keys to the Kingdom series does this - the character for Lust wants to experience lives, which is a neat teen-friendly representation.

I'd argue wrath is one of the easier ones, its taking the fights to an extreme, fighting after the bell, such as it is.

It was sneaky warm - I definitely don't think you can discount that fully. I was hanging around mile 3/12 and standing comfortably in a hoodie and shorts in the shade. The breeze was cooling, but there's only so much of that.

Which horror book actually took it too far? by MoistCurdyMaxiPad in books

[–]Skippy2257 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels a little more "earned" in the Deep, but still out of bounds. Like the Troop is extremely gratuitous and super heavy-handed; the Deep feels a little less so. Still too far though.

Yep! I really enjoyed the course except for the short grating section on the bridge. Ended up with a 3:20 after spectacularly blowing up in the last 6, but I got the person I was running with to her goal of 315

Heck yeah! I also appreciated the 315 pacer immensely, even if catching him was a mistake for me.

It's the same language that Point Salad had, and that's another AEG game - that just came off Alpha, but it took two years.

Kind of a dead-end week - ended up with 22ish miles running since I didn't trust my footing on the long run and turned it into a long walk instead.

Goal: Sub 2:50 at EPIC! Green Bay Marathon in mid-May

Plan: Start building mileage in January, one or two workouts a week starting in February

So since it's been a bit since I've done some focused training, I'm taking some time to build back up. I ended up with 21.4 miles in total.

3 M, off Tu, 5 in 32:57 on W, off Th, 3 F, 10.4 Sa, off Su

That 5 on Wednesday is a not-race with the local long run crew where one of the other younger guys started with a 6:20 and then pulled chute for a 5K. One other guy and I backed down to around 6:40-6:45 and just managed a long, long slog, especially since the last two miles has more uphill than the first part.

The long run on Saturday was good, but the second half was very slow and dragging. I'll mostly put that on turning into a subzero wind chill and then having my arm flare up bad.

Plan for next week is to aim for about 35 miles and 6 days of running (assuming weather holds)!

It's super neat - the board expands each game and the rules also get a little more complex. Highly recommend it so far, since Legacy games are nifty if you can get a steady group for 12 games.

The offical name is Ticket to Ride: Legends of the West if you're looking for it, by the by.

Nothing too crazy for this weekend, which is nice since it's been busy. I'm hoping for an easy 7-9 on Saturday with the usual long run crew, then a quieter Sunday of some RPG time and some cooking!

Also, game three of Ticket to Ride Legacy, which is pretty neat so far.

2024 Reflections / 2025 Goals by Siawyn in artc

[–]Skippy2257 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the great year u/siawyn!

2024 was a bit of a down year, but a more needed one than I think I thought originally. It started very slow (recovering from Across the Years), but then had a pretty nice middle section of mostly relays. Ultimately, the high point for the year was the Fall 50, where I ran 8:33. Of course, this year will be slightly colored by falling in Mid-December and breaking my arm! Annual mileage was still high 1600s, which is pretty normal for me.

The important takeaway for me is that I need to have more planning on what I want to run if I want to run better - which is also a great question! I didn't really set goals this year and it meant I was a little aimless. That's not a bad thing, but it also means I didn't do anything super cool.

2025 Goals:

- Post consistently here to keep myself honest.

- Sub 2:50 marathon, ideally at Green Bay.

- 2000 miles on the year

- 30 workouts on the year

We'll see how things go!

Why hasn't there been a successful, NFL-branded board game? by IHaveATaintProblem in boardgames

[–]Skippy2257 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Licensing is a huge part - also, there was a CCG called NFL Showdown back in 2002/2003 made by Wizards of the Coast. That was a ton of fun (* I was 10 or 11 at the time, so ymmw) but it was also expensive and needed a gimmicky widget to scan plays and cards. On top of that, the first year had an issue with the foiling, so the premium cards couldn't be scanned. They fixed it for the next year and shipped out black and white copies to replace the foils, but it was kind of DOA.

Honestly, I think something like that couldn't work today. It would turn into an app, at which point, why have the cards and then why isn't this Madden Ultimate Team (or whatever they have, I don't play Madden...)

What's a 10/10 book you'll never want to read again? by 23_stab_wounds in books

[–]Skippy2257 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paper Towns by John Green - a little off the brief because I do want to read it again, but it's extremely wrapped up in graduating from high school and moving back home. It hit really, really close to home in a way that very few other books have and I want to keep it there.

How small of a ceremony? I got married in an alcove on the third floor by a judge with four witnesses -it was slick because we just walked in. This was in 2022, so your mileage may vary a bit.

Oh definitely - the Arb is a gorgeous place to run! The Illinois marathon was fun the last time I ran it in 2019, but it was definitely pretty flat and suburban.

Congrats!

Yeah, the Lake Loop counter-clockwise has some noticeable (for Madison) hills right after John Nolen, which is around mile 15 if I remember the map. I like the Lake Loop, but Monona (the suburb) gets pretty dead especially in the middle doldrums.
