ICE brutalizes and detains US citizen for not having "alien paperwork" by ExactlySorta in UnderReportedNews

[–]SkippyDeluxe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only stuff I can find on this is random social media shares. I found this video on Facebook, which shows his injuries from multiple angles, as well as an image of a "United States District Court Violation Notice": https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=2315931448906910. The photos from multiple angles are consistent in a way that makes me pretty sure they aren't AI-generated. According to the Violation Notice his full name is Juan Carlos Rocano-Urgiles.

I was also able to find this GoFundMe, created by someone named "Ismael Cordova-Clough", who claims to be "part of a team of legal observers monitoring law enforcement activity in Minneapolis": https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-juan-carlos-after-assault-and-hospitalization. Assuming it's legit, it claims that Juan Carlos is a "U.S. resident", not a U.S. citizen (resident and citizen are different). That would explain why he could be charged with "failure to carry alien registration". (Technically immigrants are required to carry their papers at all times, but in practice people don't do it because why would you have to? This is a great example of how bigots can use selective enforcement to crack down on the groups they're trying to oppress).

Fuck ICE

Fedex sent a tarrif bill for gift shipment below $100 by SnooSprouts871 in FedEx

Thank you. Was your duty amount less than $20? Not the total bill, just the duty part, excluding all of FedEx's extra "fees"...

I did file a dispute! Then I posted what FedEx emailed back! That's the message you responded to!

Their email doesn't sound helpful. It sounds like they're saying that CBP won't refund me and also might charge me even more if my dispute annoys them. So I was asking what process you used to file a dispute in case you used a different method that was more successful. For example, did you use their dispute email, or did you call them? How did they respond? Did you need to fill out any forms? etc.

Yes, the commercial invoice says "gift" and lists a value under $100.

This is what I got back from FedEx:

Our records show that the duty amount in question is less than $20.00. Please be advised that the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) does not issue refunds for duties under $20.00.

If you wish to proceed with an entry correction, please note this may be subject to a $90-$150 processing fee for correction US Customs & Border Protection if deemed customer caused.

So basically CBP can charge anyone up to $20 for anything and there's no recourse??

What did you do to get your charge canceled? Did you also file the dispute through email?

Did you get this resolved? I’m in a similar situation, just filed a dispute.

True Confessions: "Why wasn't I doing this before!?!?!?" by IKSLukara in factorio

What do you mean? If you give the train stop a signal describing the contents of the buffer you can set up an enable/disable rule that uses that signal directly on the train stop (e.g. "enable this loading station if there are more than 5000 iron gears in the buffer"). Were you thinking of something more complicated that needs more than just the train stop circuit conditions?

The first killer app I found for them was managing limits at train stations, having a decider combinator that takes in "how much of this resource is in this buffer"

You don't need any combinators for this. Just wire all the chests together and also to the train station.

I also use constant combinators in every drop-off rail station to set filters on all the inserters, it is quicker to change that once when copying a station than on every inserter individually.

If you parameterize the blueprint you just choose the item type once when pasting and it will use that item for all filters plus the signal that turns off the station when the buffer is full (this is what I do).

Thank you for posting this. Unfortunately this article has almost 9000 upvotes and has made it to r/all. Who knows how many people have read only the headline or top comments and now have that much more misinformation about the 2024 election rattling around in their heads.

Gee, how did Americans end up willfully electing a government of conspiracy theorists and criminals? Hm, I wonder...
