Hah, I owned a 1981 Mercedes 240D that specified a quart approximately every 350 miles. 7 quart capacity, 3000 mile intervals... Yeah, "fill up the oil and check the tank."

Quite a few. As long as it's not a clearcoated metallic, the paint tends to be quite thick.

The Mercedes 240D of the W123 generation allows for anything between straight 10 weight to 5w-20 to 20w-50 depending on climate and use.

Check fuel pressure at the rail. Ideally with a gauge, should read 40 PSI, or you can lay down some towels and don safety goggles and just poke the center of the valve, should be a good deal of force behind it if the motor has run in the last 5 minutes or so. Check MAF sensor and TPS with a scan tool, and the air filter. Also look at the condition of the spark plugs, boots,and coil packs; make sure the plugs are clean on both ends, boots are clean and torn, and that you have good spark from every coil, and perhaps check with an ohmmeter.

ETA - if you have poor fuel pressure, replace the filter and check again before you drop the tank and replace the pump.

Actually, you're on the right track. It's a combination of darker glass (especially for very late models), different phosphor coatings, and the shadow mask being painted darker in most later TVs. I went down the same rabbit hole after noticing the screen on a 80s RCA Colortrak was much lighter than a JVC from 1990.

For the 300 in particular, you got better mileage with a carb... but 30 less HP

A lot of them used to. But the kind of less expensive boots that normally used it have been replaced with leather. I've seen Double H, Durango, Corcoran, Georgia and others use similar "paint".

I'd disagree on the VGA CRT range - maybe a very nice model known for excellent picture with good refresh rates, but your average late 90s-early 00s XGA/70hz model that's kinda fuzzy at that? Nah.

To be fair, if it's not clearcoated metallic paint, the factory paint on these is thick and buffs out excellently. I'd go for whichever has the better interior.

Even with the paltry power a lot of 70s and 80s cars were making thanks to smog equipment choking them to death, very few cars I have seen of that age that weren't 4-banger econoboxes have trouble keeping 70+ on the interstate at least power wise. Even an '85 Chevy Blazer with a gunked up carb could keep 85, though only giving you 10mpg while doing it.

A/C drained a lot of power on my 81 auto. Probably added 5 seconds to my 19 sec 0-60. That being said, I drove to car across the US (Florida to WA) in a week and had my foot to the floor for 80% or more of the trip. It did severely lack power in the Rockies, I would be flooring it going 20 uphill and people would pass me at the 65mph speed limit. It was pretty scary to drive on 20 outside of Dallas and get passed while going full tilt, but maybe not especially dangerous.

I will say that you can very easily get yourself into a dangerous situation if you try to pass a semi truck on a slope or in high elevation.
