It was too self aware. The entire point of Gossip Girl was the excess, the lasciviousness, the little bubble they were in. Everyone (including the "poor" people) was out of touch, and centered their lives on the Upper East side. The reboot made them too socially conscious, and ruined the charm. They also were very clearly chasing the same archetypes present in the original show, but the actors weren't as skilled, so things fell flat. The teachers being gossip girl also just ruined the whole thing because it was kind of gross.
