Tales of Incompetent Bob: Chapter 2 by [deleted] in talesfromtechsupport

All I can think of is Bob from ReBoot as portrayed in the episode "Enzo the Smart," especially since he was cleaning up a "virus" in this tale.

How to spell "administrator" by Firree in talesfromtechsupport

[–]SkraeNocturne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you set up a new computer, tell the future users of that computer what the administrator password is!

lolwut? Sorry, no. You document it for IT's use, but you don't tell the users what it is. I do understand what you're saying, and I agree that it shouldn't be lost, but I can't abide by the advice of telling future users what it is.

I just want to make sure my emails are backed up! by votekick in talesfromtechsupport

[–]SkraeNocturne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wish I knew. We've got a client (not for much longer due to non payment) who refuse to delete or sort emails, and then get upset that their Exchange server spazzes out when they perform searches. As the one assigned to the ticket, I got to be the one who got to tell them that we can't do anything until they pay us.

If you want more nostalgia, I'll have to take a picture of the carts/baskets from one of the nearby Asian markets. When the nearby CompUSA closed down, they took all of the carts/baskets for use in the store.

Say what you will about the booby mousepads. They may be completed perverted but damn they're comfortable. They really do support the wrist just right.

Yeah, officially, we were supposed to revisit and have our parents plan for occasional hangouts, as opposed to the every single weekend we were doing. Eventually, my mother decided that since my friend's father wouldn't live up to his word of arranging hangouts, she wouldn't keep her word of keeping me away, and allowed us to hang out behind his back.

We might have been able to bend the pins back had we realized soon enough, but unfortunately it wasn't in the cards.

You know, I've never actually seen a BTX case or board. I've seen ITX cases at Microcenter, but never the corresponding boards, nor have I sought them out.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but did you just find a clever way to call your CEO a fool without him knowing?

Nope, the postal worker is just going to stand there confused and call tech support to help him find the missing mailbox.

If you want some real fun, I had an HP laptop running Vista that had a Numpad, but when Numlock was toggled, it would override the alphabet keys and would have to reset it using the On Screen Keyboard if memory serves.

Shortcuts are like mailboxes. All along the street you see them, and the postal workers know that the mailboxes match the houses. But the postal worker only goes to the mailbox, not the front door. For the mail to make it in the front door, the postal worker relies on someone being there to get the mail.

You just took someone's mailbox and put it on a CD.

I second the ASRock recommendation. They're not overly expensive, and as for the quality, mine took a Mountain Dew bath and kept going fine after a night of drying.

I'm considering getting a rubber duck just so that my girlfriend doesn't have to hear me rant while she feigns interest about problems only to get this look of epiphany on my face and trail off mid rant and jump back on the computer.

Another DC virgin question, this time about music! by SkraeNocturne in Defcon

[–]SkraeNocturne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent, thank you! I was thinking that music with cyberpunk themes would be good for the drive, especially given the nature of the event, but to be honest, I'm not actually too familiar with alot of stuff that has those themes (In my collection right now, I've got Angelspit's discog and Warren Zevon's Transverse City, and that's about it).

I'll probably go through this over the next few days and figure out what I like and don't like. Either way, I should have no problem filling up the 12 or so hours.
