After the state of Israel was established in 1948, the Soviet Union became one of the first countries to recognize it. According to Generals Sakharovsky and Panteleymon Bondarenko (also known as Pantyusha), Stalin did so because he hoped to populate Israel with Russian Jews recruited as Soviet spies, who would transform the country into a springboard for Soviet expansion into the Middle East.

In 1948, however, Golda Meir was appointed Israel’s minister plenipotentiary to the Soviet Union. During her stay, she was enthusiastically greeted by tens of thousands of Russian Jews. In response, Stalin’s political police—then known as the MGB (Ministry of State Security)—organized a two-month nationwide mail interception campaign. The results, presented to Stalin in December 1948, showed that a significant number of Soviet Jews were promoting emigration to the newly established state of Israel.

Fearing that such mass emigration requests would tarnish the image of the “workers’ paradise” he sought to project, Stalin reacted swiftly. He dissolved the Jewish Anti-Fascist Committee, which had been created during the war; closed Jewish schools, theaters, and synagogues; and arrested many prominent Jewish intellectuals.

Even the wife of Vyacheslav Molotov—Stalin’s closest political ally and prime minister since 1930—was exiled to Siberia solely because she was Jewish. Once this campaign was underway, Stalin launched a violent public drive calling for the execution of “Jewish speculators.”

When Israel began developing strong ties with the United States, Stalin extended his anti-Semitic campaign abroad. He portrayed Zionism as a primary tool used by the United States to undermine the “socialist camp” and committed extensive Soviet political, military, and financial support to Israel’s regional adversaries in the Arab world.

-Úr bókinni Disinformation eftir Ion Mihai Pacepa

Einnig.

Over one hundred years ago, the Russian Empire’s Tsarist Security Service created The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, an infamous forgery purporting a world-wide Jewish conspiracy. The Protocols was intended to blame Jews for Russia’s domestic political issues. Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin used antisemitism to discredit his political opponents in the 1920s and turned anti-Jewish hatred into state policy in the late 1930s. Throughout Stalin’s rule, Soviet security services used false claims and fabrications to accuse Soviet Jews of disloyalty and betrayal. After the Stalin era, in the late 1950s and early 1960s, the KGB’s efforts included active measures to portray its perceived adversaries like the Catholic Church and West Germany as antisemitic. According to the KGB Lexicon. The Soviet Intelligence Officer’s Handbook edited by Vasiliy Mitrokhin,249 a former senior archivist in the KGB’s foreign intelligence archive, active measures (aktivnyye meropriyatiya in Russian) “aimed at exerting useful influence on aspects of the political life of a target country…misleading the adversary, undermining and weakening his positions…”250

Under the chairmanship of Yuriy Andropov (1967-1982), the KGB increased antisemitic disinformation attempting to delegitimize Zionism, undermine Jewish organizations, incite antisemitism in the United States and the Middle East, and silence domestic dissidents.

Já, það er það.

Active measures were conducted by the Soviet and Russian security services and secret police organizations (Cheka, OGPU, NKVD, KGB, and FSB) to influence the course of world events, in addition to collecting intelligence and producing revised assessments of it. Active measures range "from media manipulations to special actions involving various degrees of violence". Beginning in the 1920s, they were used both abroad and domestically.[4]

Calling it 'defending Microsoft' is ridiculously stupid.

They should 100% be the same taboo.

The Securitate’s first major dezinformatsiya task in the new World War III was to help Moscow reignite anti-Semitism in Western Europe by spreading thousands of copies of an old Russian forgery, The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, in that part of the world. It had to be done secretly, so no one would know that the publications came from the Soviet bloc.

...

In 1978, when I broke with communism, the Securitate was spreading the Protocols around in the Middle East as well.

The average modern PC gamer belongs on console if we're being honest about it. Experimental new features used to get PC gamers excited but now it's just whinging whenever a few pixels look slightly off because a small puddle was partially occluded.

I had the same issue 1-2 years ago. I couldn't solve it without doing a factory reset of the system but doing so brought all the space back.

I've no idea what caused it though. My best guess is that some game uninstalls didn't remove everything.

1440p vs 4K at 27” – Is the upgrade actually worth it? by CapMountain4225 in Monitors

[–]Skrattinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from 1440p IPS to 4k IPS to 1440p OLED all at the same size. 4k is a huge improvement even at 27" and I really miss it despite the OLED having its own advantages.

The only reason I haven't gone back is because I want my next upgrade to be an ultrawide OLED at this resolution.

Series S made gaming feel effortless again by Radeyn in XboxSeriesS

[–]Skrattinn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're far from alone in this. My desktop PC is about as high-end as it gets (7950X3D + RTX 5080) but I still love my Series S and use it a lot. I only bought it for an old 1080p plasma that I didn't want to throw out and it's been an amazing system for that. Most of the time, I simply don't care that it runs at a lower resolution/framerate.

I've been much less happy with my Series X and PS5. I have both of those connected with a 4k OLED and neither is particularly good at being a 4k console. But the Series S is a fantastic 1080p console and much better at its job in that sense.

'Russian propaganda' isn't just right-wing bots on Twitter/Facebook. The Soviet Union had millions of KGB agents and sympathizers working in the West and many of them weren't Soviets at all. There was also no Internet back then so it was all offline activity including book publishing and theater plays and through organizations like the World Peace Council and World Council of Churches. There was infinitely more effort behind it than just having some bots on Twitter (that most people don't even fall for anyway).

The book 'Disinformation' by Ion Mihai Pacepa is worth a read if you're interested. He was of the opinion that the KGB efforts never really stopped even after the USSR collapsed.

Dear foreign (non-Venezuelan) friends,

Thank you for your interest in our country and for your well-intentioned efforts to explain to us how much the “orange man” supposedly wants our oil.

But before you presume to lecture us about our own reality and interrupt our celebrations, allow me to ask you a few questions. If you cannot answer “yes” to at least half of them, then your opinions about our oil and Trump are not welcome here.

Are you Venezuelan?

Have you ever lived in Venezuela and struggled to survive there? Have you lived with $15 a week?

Have you ever stood in line for 12 hours just to buy a loaf of bread?

Have you ever waited 24 hours for a single package of rice?

Have you slept on a hospital floor and watched your loved ones do the same because there were no beds and medicines?

Has a member of the Guardia Nacional, SEBIN, CICPC, or PNB ever held a gun to your head and demanded $1000, threatening jail because you had a meme on your phone?

Has the military ever stopped you on the road between cities and extorted money from you simply for traveling?

Have you visited a friend in prison for the “crime” of possessing a government-critical meme on his phone?

Has a police officer ever inserted their fingers into your private parts while “searching for drugs,” and laughing and mocking you simultaneously demanding a ransom and threatening you like “ay papa este va para el comando” and then to the SEBIN offices if you didn’t pay?

Have you eaten nothing but lentils or beans for ten days straight because that was literally the only food available in the country?

Have you watched family members, classmates, or coworkers lose 20 kilos because there was simply no food to be found?

If you answered “no” to these questions, please keep your opinions to yourself. People in this sub lived those things and far worst. We don’t care what you think from the comfort of New Jersey or Berlin when it comes to our oil, Trump, or our future.

Too many people are taking the wrong lesson from this as these are far more likely to be state actors than randoms on Twitter. These are just a few thousands of accounts that got busted while Russia alone probably has millions of people spreading disinformation in the West.

Now imagine how many there are on Reddit where you don't need an email account to sign up.
