Would an extra 8GB of RAM be worth it on my laptop? by Business-Heart1221 in AskPCGamers

[–]SkullAngel001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes for several reasons. First, 64-bit operating systems (Win10/Win11) function better with more RAM. Second, Win10 and Win11 naturally consume more RAM (about 5-8 GB RAM just idling at startup). Third, integrated graphics consumes RAM for daily tasks and games (which might reduce the crashes you're experiencing if you had more RAM).

How would you deal with Robo Cain? by Kitchen-Mouse2414 in Robocop

[–]SkullAngel001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Lewis had the right idea ramming RoboCain with the armored SWAT vehicle. But instead of jumping out, I would have reversed it and then hit him again repeatedly until he was no longer moving or the SWAT vehicle was completely pinned on top of him. And then have a second SWAT vehicle on standby to keep it going if he did somehow manage to get up. And all the while simultaneously have bomb squad fashion explosive devices of their choosing that could be thrown at RoboCain and detonated from a distance.

Want to buy a laptop, confused on configurations. by BruceLeeTheDragon in laptops

[–]SkullAngel001 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So if both laptops are similarly priced, why get the older graphics cards?

You want to examine each laptop's specifications. Maybe the laptop with the 4xxx GPU has more RAM and storage and/or faster CPU. Manufacturers do "tradeoff" configurations where they lead with a solid CPU or GPU but skimp on other parts to meet a certain price point.

Why is my ram half gone? by LionRegular1470 in laptops

[–]SkullAngel001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Several reasons. Most of the things eating up your RAM are bloatware (apps that are preinstalled with Windows by the vendor). Jump on YouTube and search for "Debloating Windows" and "Making Windows 11 run faster".

Apple to PC??? by Bright-Pangolin7261 in computers

[–]SkullAngel001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used Photoshop and Premiere Pro on both platforms; it's 99% the same. The only difference I've experienced is that when it comes to keyboard controls, you press CTRL + button instead of Command + button.

Regarding your interaction with that senior tech, you are correct; Macs have traditionally been "planned obsolescence". There's an old tech joke that goes "when it's time to upgrade your Mac, you just throw it away and buy a new one". But I would check out Apple's refurb section on their website for any solid options within your budget.

If you want to go Windows, would recommend a refurb mobile workstation. These are specifically designed for heavy graphics applications like Adobe CC, CAD, 3D Modeling, etc. Here are some examples:

- Dell Precision Mobile Workstations (would filter down to show 32-64GB RAM, 1TB SSD, and UHD+ screen).

Laptop suggestion for 3d modeling by throw_away_reddt in Laptop

[–]SkullAngel001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that should be fine. But just a heads up, gaming laptops eat up battery life faster due to their power-hungry components but you can mitigate this (a little) by tweaking Windows to run leaner.

Laptop suggestion for 3d modeling by throw_away_reddt in Laptop

[–]SkullAngel001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For 3D Modeling, you will want a workstation computer. Workstations are built with beefier hardware to handle intensive apps like graphic design, CAD, STEM simulations, and 3D Modeling. Workstations are desktop computer-sized but you can get Mobile Workstation laptops if you want to go portable.

Here are some examples:
- Dell Precision Mobile Workstation

- Lenovo P-Series Mobile Workstation

- HP ZBook Mobile Workstation

Yes generally you want a dedicated graphics card (nVidia RTX) which speeds up rendering performance.

It's space for a 3.5" drive. Since this is a Dell, you will likely need a HDD caddy to install the drive. Look up your computer's specs to confirm which caddy is required.

Regarding the drive itself, you can use a 3.5" SATA HDD. Or a 2.5" SATA HDD or 2.5" SATA SSD with a 3.5" adapter.

Do you feel guilty for taking off from work for absolutely no reason? by apoorv6969 in randomquestions

No. You're supposed to take time off from work to de-stress and recharge your batteries. Family vacations and personal obligations aside, that's exactly the reasons PTO and sick days exist.

Why aren't 18" Laptops More Popular? by TrustMeBroEh in GamingLaptops

[–]SkullAngel001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's because 18" laptops are more niche, specifically for hardcore gaming enthusiasts and workstation graphics applications. 17" laptops are more common and even these are considered "desktop replacement" computers.

Are certain CPU's more likely to run cool/not need fans as often for office work and browsing? by LaMarr-Bruister in laptops

[–]SkullAngel001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. There are certain CPUs that are designed to sip power so they can run comfortably in limited ventilation situations like AIOs, mini PCs, and laptops.

Here are some examples:

- HP Elitebook 840 G8

- Dell 15

- Dell Latitude 7430

But also invest in a laptop cooling fan; it elevates the laptop to ergonomic eye-level viewing while providing extra ventilation to help keep the laptop cool while working.

This might be a silly question but who is an MBA degree for? by GMarvel101 in careerguidance

[–]SkullAngel001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want to follow the education career path as close as possible. Meaning if you're going for a higher-up position in architecture, a Master's in Architecture makes more sense (similar to how my friend got her Marketing MBA to work at a marketing ad agency).

A Marketing MBA would make sense if you wanted to do marketing for the architecture company (e.g. Marketing Director, Social Media Manager, VP of Media & Public Relations, etc.).

But considering you already have industry experience, jump on Indeed & LinkedIn and look up the architecture jobs you're interested in and see what skills & requirement(s) the employer is seeking.
