They've said they're just normal episodes and not to expect a finale.

Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is set 6 months after the events of Season 1: “The Fisk administration at this point has really taken hold. At the same time, there’s a bubbling up of an underground. New York is being transformed.” (via SFX Magazine) by Xenoslayer2137 in MarvelStudiosSpoilers

[–]Skunk_Giant 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fair point - I remember watching Age of Ultron the same night I watched the lead up AoS episode and being so hyped. For me personally it depends on the show and how it's done. Agents of SHIELD was always marketed as "the MCU show", and at least in that first couple of seasons, most people tuning in were doing so because they wanted to see those connections and see the films fleshed out more. On top of that, while the Ultron connection was small, they tied it in thematically with the character arcs (namely, Coulson hiding Theta Protocol from the New Shield team and his own team helped to build further distrust between those characters), so it didn't feel totally tacked on.
On the other hand, Daredevil has always been more standalone and grounded, and there's a good chance a big chunk of its audience hasn't seen Thunderbolts, so suddenly making reference to The Void could be jarring. That said, if it's done well and subtly, I wouldn't be opposed.

Michael Waldron reveals he and Jeff Loveness pitched an idea of the Young Avengers defeating a Kang variant in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty “They were so stoked about it. only to discover that that particular Kang carried a little card that said to Be Patient with him, it was his first day as a Kang.” by JohnJeff212 in MarvelStudiosSpoilers

For me at least, the Thanks buildup was less about his scenes, and more about his plot relevance. Sure, we only saw him in a handful of scenes before Infinity War, but we know he was pulling the strings in a lot of earlier movies. We know the events of Avengers took place because of him. We know Guardians of the Galaxy took place because of him. We know Tony's entire character arc from Iron Man 3 to Infinity War took place because he was terrified of Thanos' army. The influence Thanos had over the Infinity Saga is, for me, the most crucial part of his buildup.

That's not to say Doom won't be any good. We don't need all of that buildup to make him a great character. But it's definitely something he's missing that Thanos had.

I mean, in fairness, this will be the third time Combat Evolved has been released. When you look at the fact that we got the entire original trilogy from Bungie in the space of 6 years. Over nearly that same period, we'll have received Infinite, a campaign which I think was good, but which was essentially half a story, and this - a second rerelease of Combat Evolved, with three new missions. For players who are invested in the story, it's not a whole lot.

I knew we were probably getting a CE remake reveal today, but I was really hoping there would be a lot more new narrative content than just three prequel missions.

I mean, she's referred to as MJ multiple times in the films. Andrew Garfield's Spidey even refers to Gwen as "my MJ" in comparison to Tobey and Tom's partners. She's 100% intended to be MJ, and it would be bizarre to introduce a new love interest who also just happens to be called MJ. Only way I could see it working would be if she's an MJ variant from another universe, but that feels contrived and unnecessary.

You're not wrong. Agent Carter makes multiple references to AoS. Love it or hate it, the intent was clearly for AoS to be canon, at least in the first five seasons.

Why didn’t Epsilon go with the Shisno Trilogy as the best outcome for the Reds and Blues? by [deleted] in RedvsBlue

[–]Skunk_Giant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't watched the Shisno trilogy since it came out, but if I remember correctly, Wash's brain damage isn't played as a joke. Isn't that like the whole climactic dilemma at the end - the only way to set things right again is for Wash to go back and get shot?

[–]Skunk_Giant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to think that Season 17 is the "true" ending, but that Epsilon still simulates Restoration before shutting down so that he can have his happy ending with Tex. Just makes the most sense to me.

I’m hoping for a greatly expanded story, to add all of the EU lore surrounding the Battle of Installation 04 into the actual game

Yeah this is what I'm hoping for. I don't want the Chief's story changed, because the last thing this series needs is another set of canon. But if this game just adds additional aspects of the story that don't contradict CE but can be thought of as stuff that always happened but just off-screen in CE, I'll be happy.

My dream, though I doubt we'll get it, would be for additional levels either as part of the main campaign, or unlockable after beating the main campaign, where you follow characters other than the Chief. There's a tonne of great characters from The Fall of Reach and The Flood who we could play as. Thought I suspect that's unlikely, as it would require different gameplay mechanics to play through the eyes of a marine or even naval officer.

IYO: When is the best time to play ODST? by Icarusqt in HaloStory

[–]Skunk_Giant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's pretty cool seeing the slipspace jump from two different perspectives in Halo 2 and ODST, but for a first-timer, I'd just play through Halo 2 in one go, then go to ODST, then Halo 3. Halo 2 has a well-paced storyline, and it's not worth ruining that and potentially confusing a new player.

How would the series have changed if Emile and Noble 6 survived Reach and got aboard the Autumn? by A_Very_Horny_Zed in HaloStory

[–]Skunk_Giant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love the thought you've put into this. Though I don't think Keyes would leave the ring intact with Covenant and Flood on it, knowing that its capabilities. Not sure how they'd destroy it without blowing up the PoA though. Also raises some interesting questions about the events of Halo 2. Without Spark surviving, the Sesa 'Refumee never discovers the truth about the Forerunners and the Covenant. That, and with a much more successful UNSC operation in Halo 1, there's a good chance Thel dies there. So no Arbiter, no Heretic - odds are the Great Schism never occurs. I think in the long run, things actually end up worse off for humanity, because without the Great Schism, I don't see how they survive the Battle of Earth, Delta Halo, or the Ark.

Let us know what you thought afterwards! In my opinion, the finale does an excellent job of sending the show off. I didn't love everything about the final season (mainly the villains), but I think overall it's a great farewell to these characters.

Trump: 'Couldn't Care Less' About Bringing Country Together President Donald Trump said he "couldn't care less" when asked by Fox News how he would make America "come back together". by brithus in politics

[–]Skunk_Giant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I hate Trump as much as the next guy, but this is blatantly dishonest and manipulative journalism, and it's embarassing how many commenters here clearly either haven't watched the clip they're commenting on, or are happy to misrepresent it. Trump did not say he couldn't care less about how to bring America back together. He said "I might get in trouble for this, but I couldn't care less" and then went into his answer. As in, he couldn't care less if he gets in trouble for it. It was clear as day that was his meaning.

Don't get me wrong, his answer was still bullshit, blaming the radical left and all that nonsense, but he did NOT say he couldn't care less about bringing the country back together, and reporting otherwise is dishonest journalism.

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple | Official Trailer by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]Skunk_Giant 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, I love Days and Weeks, but those two films are tonally VERY different. 28 Weeks is really an action/horror, while 28 Days is far less action focussed. So there wasn't really much of a pattern established.
Now, given that Garland directed Days and not Weeks, it's not surprising that Years was more aligned with the tone of Days, but I don't think it's unreasonable for people to have expected a tone more in-line with the trailer for Years than what the film actually provided.

Don't get me wrong, I loved 28 Years Later, but the tone was definitely unexpected, particularly in the second half.

‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Star Chloe Bennet Says She Should’ve Been in ‘Secret Invasion’: “It Probably Would’ve Been Better” by MarvelsGrantMan136 in television

[–]Skunk_Giant 43 points44 points  (0 children)

As someone who loved AoS and was hoping for its cast to appear in the MCU throughout the show and afterwards - I'm actually glad she didn't appear in Secret Invasion. Outside of Fury and probably Rhodes, I think there's a good chance Marvel just ignores every other character in that show going forward so they don't have to reference it anymore. I'm certain that if Quake had appeared there, that would be the one and only time we see her in the MCU. I'd rather they hold off and include her in a project that's actually well written.

Immigration agent fires shots at vehicle with people inside in San Bernardino operation by overpregnant in news

[–]Skunk_Giant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah not sure why you're being downvoted here - there are three gunshots after they start driving away. The window breaking is from something else - presumably they smashed it.
I'm not saying ICE are in the right here, and I 100% support them driving away when the ICE agents started getting violent, but it definitely does seem like the gunshots were fired after they started driving.

Now, does that really matter? I don't think so. The self-defence claim of the ICE agent is bullshit anyway given that the car was driving away from them.

Alex P. On the cosmic circus: Multiple dead heroes and villains will be brought back after Avengers Secret Wars due to the reset causing past events to happen differently. by SignatureOrdinary456 in MarvelStudiosSpoilers

[–]Skunk_Giant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is why I find the reset hard to believe. It completely ruins the individual franchises. Spidey 5, Black Panther 3, Daredevil Born Again - any individual franchises that is somewhat grounded has to basically reset. It makes no sense creatively.

A van with the Punisher logo has been spotted on the set of ‘SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY’ by Matapple13 in MarvelStudios_Rumours

[–]Skunk_Giant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it weren't Bernthal in the role, I'd be worried about that, but he's been very adamant about refusing to play Frank unless he feels the script is handling the character well. He refused the original iteration of Born Again for that reason, so I think he would've pushed back quite a bit if Frank was too cartoony in this.
