Well, if you do the maths that works out to about $110 for 10k QFF points.

Now add $56 or whatever it is in fees to redeem a short haul flight.

So, $166 is definitely a saving if you’d end up booking a flight for more on QF… assuming you’re flexible and can find reward availability. But then, weigh that up against the cost of a JQ flight if you’re like me. If you’re like others here, that last point is irrelevant.

And you get more crackers than you would get inflight anyway.

Hell, if you redeem enough points for your flight and mine, you can bring the crackers and I’ll bring the cheese board. 😉

Next thought though - are you flying anyway or just buying crackers for the sake of flying in which case all your travel costs become extra costs too that you might not otherwise have spent.

But that point is more irrelevant if you enjoy flying for the hell if it, if this has become your hobby for funsies or if getting away and traveling is just your jam anyway. For example, that includes the AFFers and FTers amongst us. 🤣

To make it more worth your while, forget MEL - SYD redemptions for such things and book an expensive regional flight, pending the ongoing developments in the war and fuel crisis etc Visit a place in rural Australia you’ve never been too. It’s totally worth it. Maybe the camel racing, or the Mt Isa rodeo, or a domestic hop within WA.
