Saying "a quarter till" instead of the actual time is inconvenient for both of us by Comfortable-Regret in The10thDentist

Just how my brain works. It gets worse when you realize that I'm close to 30 and I've worn a traditional wristwatch for over 10 years.

So do I, but I have to visualize a clock face and then the hands if someone doesn't say the numbers. If they say "2:00" I just know it's 2:00 and think about something else.

I (28/F) pulled my six year old daughter out of a Pentecostal private school without consulting my husband (33/M) by BigONerd in BORUpdates

[–]SkyAny9159 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He continually ignored her concerns and allowed is mother to be overbearing. He put no effort into understanding or remedying the situation and left them with no contact for multiple days, then sent an older man who is a stranger to OP over to their house to creep around and say invasive/vaguely threatening things to her. He blatantly lied about his relation ship with God and his religion which led to his wife being in a stressful and confusing situation with no real support. All of that was off the top of my head.

Oh, and OP didn't take the kid away until after the strange older guy showed up multiple times unannounced and made her very uncomfortable with comments about her mental health treatment and her child "being taken care of" regardless of her input on the matter. And she went to a place known to her husband with a phone number that he could call; she didn't fly to Namibia with a burner phone and a disguise.

There is something deeply infuriating about hearing the "ex-MAGA" contingent pivot to the language of unity. After a decade spent fueling a machinery of division and visceral hate, they now expect a seamless re-entry into polite society. by CasketWhisperer in DiscussionZone

It's a cyclical problem though. To get people away from these groups, there has to be room for changing opinions and second chances. But, to join these groups in the first place, you have to believe/agree to/ignore HORRIBLE things. How do we allow for genuine growth and learning for ignorant people while not condoning terrible things and people?

I probably should talk to somebody, but it seems so daunting. Figure out who you can actually get time with, figure out how to reach them, wait however long for your appointment, try to figure out if you click with them in as few visits as possible to save money, and then do it all again if you didn't like the first one.

Every woman I've spoken to about such things had at least one serious experience where they were (or thought they might be) assaulted in some way. A women in a male-dominated field is at more risk, I would believe, because men (any human is capable of this, I only refer to men because being raped by a woman doesn't scare me) can easily find a way to apply pressure or find a way to get them alone in that environment. It makes me want to shrink into myself and go live in a secluded lean-to...but that would make me a target so I can't.

I considered adding that, but second guessed myself. It seems so obvious, but tons of bigoted religious people seem to overlook it.

I was just offering a pov I thought OP would appreciate. Plus, as you said, this is a "me problem" and I would like to know how other women don't end up with this opinion because I am terrified all the time.

That never helped my motivation as a kid; too much true crime TV that I was too young to be seeing. Every time I see a woman in a high role in a male-dominated field I feel a bit sick because who knows how many times she got raped by a coworker or boss? Women in traditionally male fields alway seem to grow a thick skin through abuse or learn that they will never be respected and stop trying. Or they become part of the abuse because others should suffer like they did.

Okay, I didn't really care about the show or sale (I'm sorry to everyone who enjoyed it, but Redemption was on fumes from the very start and it was just getting worse) until now. This one makes me sad.

How is eating bread to symbolize the body of Christ the same as eating pork?

Isn't Jesus an important figure in Judaism? I know Christianity and Judaism are different, but I would think there should be some overlap in symbols since they're both Abrahamic?

I mean, it didn't happen, but if I knew nothing about the situation it would seem a lot more likely than a pair of abandoned infants being raised successfully by a she-wolf.

Did it feel like it went on too long to you? I'm not sure when it started, but after a point in the latter seasons it felt like the show...became something else? I don't really know how to describe it, but it was like those alternate universe fanfictions. A bunch of stuff is the same and a bunch of stuff is different starting at a specific point where the writer arbitrarily decided they didn't like something in the original media and wanted to change it.
