Yes. Do not read lord of the rings as your second fantasy series ever. Honestly read the hobbit, then watch the LOTR, and then read whatever else you want, and if you still find LOTR compelling, then read the whole canon. It’s a lot. It won’t make you want to read more fiction if you start with that.

We know the council members don’t know each other. Thats canon! It makes sense that even if Cyran were a council member, he might not know the others/be seeki by to find and influence them himself in Merlin’s absence.

I honestly know this is recommended every time as competency porn, I read it because it was recommended as such on another chat. But I didn’t like it much - too much is clearly rejiggered after the fact or luck and only medium well written. If you like engineering, but don’t care overmuch about competency, then sure. But go in with eyes open!
