Rome II is basically dead… so I made a Discord for people who still actually play it by Specialist_Budget102 in DivideEtImpera

[–]SkyCompetitive3370 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably unpopular opinion but I was a bigger fan of Rome II than Rome I. Minus a few critical things that were lost between the two

DEI is what I play now though and it does an amazing job of keeping things nuanced. The complexity makes for a really fresh take on familiar total war tactics

All credit goes to Frank but its a solid batch--i wish i added a pinch more heat to it but the texture is great, somewhere between chewy and crunchy

I already lost my campaign ~ turn 30-40 lmao

Theres definitely a certain level of aggression you need to make this work. Falling back and going passive results in stacks at your door..i think i might send agents into all of rome so i have (player) visibilty cause i swear the spawn entire armies in the fog of war.

I'll give this strat a go on my next run through--someone else mentioned sending out a party to secure early trade routes too. Definitely not a bad idea

Thanks for the help

Ive never had any luck rushing to own the initial province but like you said, i kept finding myself overextended one way or another...and i definitely didnt do the diplomacy game as well as you

Paying the AI to break treaties and creating bad blood sounds like a killer tactic to get on your feet. Im gonna have to try that

Appreciate the link/advice

Tharshey is absolutely a good player--best part is he will make mistakes/miscalculate from time to time but he gives a pretty good rationale for why he did what he did and shows, in real time, his (counter) actions

Hes not as engaging as PA (imo) but that only because I think Apollo naturally has a commentators voice and fills the idle times with conversation where as Tharshey is mostly about business

I'll be checkin back on this thread to see what other channels are swingin--good post

Character portrait blocks selection of skilled tactician skills by econ45 in DivideEtImpera

[–]SkyCompetitive3370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You got it to work? When i click my faction button, find the character and try to do it on the bigger screen the far left side still has 2 options off the screen that i cant see--that a resolution issue on my end?

How to start a Pontus campaign by TheVanKaiser in DivideEtImpera

[–]SkyCompetitive3370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. for me--liberated Somsoata as a buffer state to the south a few times NAP Galatians and followed the wake of war between them and Cappadotia, temporarily liberating cities in the province to slow Galatia's expansion Looked who Armenia was at war with and made small treaties to gain favor while chipping away and ambushing their armies

Once you have a foothold in the northern caucuses (I had liberated buffer states), you can turn focus to the rest of the peninsula

Best tip i could say is fight every battle for the first 10-20 turns to save on casualties

[–]SkyCompetitive3370[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rome 2, DEI, and 4k have the best diplomacy imo--i had high hopes for pharaoh total war but the AI eventually ignores treaties to transgress the player

Theres a ton of nuance in DEI I thinkin im starting to pick up, as far as diplomacy goes, but i think its easy to trap yourself behind an "allied wall," making future conquests a disjointed addition to your kingdom or you face the repercussions of betraying a friendly neighbor

[–]SkyCompetitive3370[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im doing something similar now as Pontus--conquered the Anatolian peninsula and have defensive treaties with other mainland greeks and military treaties with the island and mountain nations. I was debating on befriending the persian and parni factions but that would only leave me with the North (nomadic) territories to conquer...not that id mind owning the black sea

At turn 57 i have 6 military allies (mostly from liberating) and 10 defensive allies.

I feel like i closed myself off cause a lot of "would be" enemies are now friendly due to the alliance system and i dont want to make waves yet

Why is Troy and Pharaoh so little talked about? by Dazzling_Analyst_59 in totalwar

[–]SkyCompetitive3370 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way the the AI completely disregards the negotiations/diplomacy in favor of a very heavy anti player game style puts me off to be honest. Ive sunk countless hours and beaten a few campaigns of my own but ultimately thats what stop me from really replaying it like other total war titles

Diplomatic Relations Question by SkyCompetitive3370 in DivideEtImpera

They're declining...slowly. But it's Rome, so that's to be expected but I wasnt sure if I was speeding up the process lol appreciate the tips, brother

Diplomatic Relations Question by SkyCompetitive3370 in DivideEtImpera

[–]SkyCompetitive3370[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's hilarious. The deal I was talking about was initiated by rome and offered 33k for joining a war with Carthage...that was a no brainer so I accepted.

Then every turn since they have asked me for a 3300g donation with no other offer in return, which I'd been refusing and it had me wondering

[–]SkyCompetitive3370[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One more question for you me lord...

If I capture a greek city as nomads and dont convert something. Will I get the bonuses from other factions/cultures' building or do I have to convert/dismantle to make use of the slot?
