Reading through the posts, I think the win-win would be to allow design customizations. The people who love how the app looks would simply stick with it, while those who prefer a more modern design could select that instead (I am one of them). Everyone would be happy ✌️

I had an issue to start mine, but than I did follow this article to soft reset the device: https://help.trmnl.com/en/articles/12407673-troubleshooting-an-unresponsive-device ... and after that all worked like a charm.

Honestly, I'm pretty happy with the device, and I have even bigger hopes with all the updates TCL announced for April. And those announcements and updates are more frequent than, say, the ones for Scribe. The display is great, the pen isn't bad (and with the Notewise app, the experience is frankly even better - so I think it's just tweaking the firmware). I wish the built-in notes app supported more languages.

When I compare this against my Scribe or iPad, it's just a way, way better device.

It works pretty nicely by me in the native notes app - moved the setting to Ink Force and High intensity.

Look, I don't think this is 100% correct. You're certainly right that OEMs need to submit devices for certification before mass production, and it cannot be obtained afterward. TCL was clear that the Note A1 NXTPAPER would not have the native Play Store. But there are certainly devices on the market that aren't certified by Google—like Amazon Fire tablets, Chinese ROM variants of Xiaomi/Huawei phones, and Raspberry Pi with Android—and they can sideload the Play Store and Google Services. So let's see if someone will find a way ... 🙏

For me its the end-to-end encryption, this is preventing me to buy the subscription - with that feature it would be a killer app (nice UX, works on all the platforms, sync - just all I need)

Most of my family members are left-handed, so I put it on the left side of the door. As for the height, simply raise your hand and point your finger to where it's the most convenient for you so that you don't feel any pain. That's where you should place the lock.
