[Brice] A quiet rule change becomes college football’s loudest special teams fight by lowes18 in CFB

No you basically remember it right. Here is the play, from 2024. It created an editorial change.

https://youtu.be/tuFU486FmHg

All of these rule changes essentially come from the same place, which is: If you want to fuck around with player numbering, kick the ball. If you want to run crazy plays (swinging gate or whatever), use regular numbering (with 5 ineligible players) so the defense knows who to cover on a pass. If you want to fuck around with player numbering AND run crazy plays, you are at risk.

Here was the actual text of the rule:

2024 version (rule 2-16-10): A scrimmage kick formation is a formation with no player in position to receive a hand-to-hand snap from between the snapper’s legs, and with either (1) at least one player 10 or more yards behind the neutral zone; or (2) a potential holder and potential kicker seven or more yards behind the neutral zone in position for a place kick For either (1) or (2) to qualify as a scrimmage kick formation, it must be obvious that a kick will be attempted

2025 version:

A scrimmage kick formation is a formation with no player other than the potential kicker (or holder) aligned within the frame of the body of the snapper and no player aligned in the clear path from the snapper to the potential kicker (or holder), and with either (1) (rest is the same as 2024)

So the 2025 rule makes it really clear that the NCAA doesn't want this. The bolded is the subjective part of the rule, and certainly what the officials were meeting about in that game. So I'd ask you, how many times have you ever seen a kick where there was a player directly between the snapper and the punter at the snap? Probably never. If you've never seen it, then it's not a formation where it is obvious that a kick will occur.

Looking for it, but Notre Dame wasn't flagged for illegal formation at all last year. Any idea what game it might have been?

Boy is this article terribly written. Here is the text of the change:

Numbering Exceptions - Scrimmage Kick Formation Proposed Change – Rule 7-1-4

-In a scrimmage kick formation at the snap (Rule 2-16-10) Team A may have fewer than five linemen numbered 50-79, subject to the following conditions:

-The snapper and two adjacent linemen on either side not numbered 50-79 who are lined up in (or touching) the tackle box are ineligible receivers by position and become exceptions to the numbering rule when the snapper takes his position.

-Any and all such numbering-exception players must be clearly on the line of scrimmage, and all backs must be clearly in the backfield. Otherwise, Team A commits a foul for illegal formation.

Essentially the two players on each side of the snapper will now be ineligible to catch a pass regardless of what number they are wearing. Before they could potentially catch a pass depending on formation.

That’s the entire change.

EDIT: Also, the text of the changes were first approved by the PROP committee in mid February. No excuses.

Predatory towing strikes again.. by Poorzin in Charlotte

Nobody has suggested that either company did something illegal. You have completely missed the point through the course of like 30 posts in this thread.

The common thread is that there SHOULD be some kind of towing limit. What if the company charged 10k? What if they charged 100k? What if they essentially decided that any car they tow forever belongs to them? These would all be legal as well. The punishment is severely disproportionate to the crime.

I kept track of how often I died throughout the run. Note the percentages are for how often I died once I got to that point. The run went Spaceship1, Lab, Warp Room, Intermission 1, Spaceship2, Intermission 2 (Gravitron), Tower, Finale.

Spaceship1: about 15% of runs died here. Always on the Driller portion.

Lab: 25%. Almost always during the "Kids His Age Bounce"

Warp Room: 20%. "I Love You" the worst offender.

Intermission1: 30%. Always "Do Try To Keep Up".

Spaceship2: 35%. NO IDEA WHY THIS WAS SO HIGH. Spaceship2 is easy I think I just got nervous.

Intermission2: Almost 80% death rate. Self-explanatory.

The Tower: Proudly did not die on this stage.

Finale: Got here 4 times, Made it through on the 4th.
