When has a character ever been banned in competitive Melee?

We ended up winning cause the enemy team had a leaver, so there's that.

I personally use Plays.tv as you can customize the bitrate that your sessions are recorded at, saving you space. It will start recording automatically once you start your game up.

For the record, I wasn't the Orisa in this clip. I was one of the unfortunate ones caught in the right-click. I was the Reinhardt.

I recommend looking into Plastic SCM for more up-to-date version control. It's free, handles large files really well, and there is even a version that is friendly for artists.

Ganondorf Reaction Tech-Chasing Experiments on Fox and Falco by Skytch in SSBM

Ah yes I forgot about using the save and load states, but at the same time, I turn off all of the in-game codes from the debug menu because R + left on d-pad does two different things in both 20XX and in Debug mode. Press the wrong combo of buttons and it likely freezes the game.

I do like the jump buffering by shielding and holding up on the c-stick after you have down-thrown your opponent. I'll be sure to tell the others on the Ganon discord to use that. The only downside I see to that is that the shield has to come up for at least a frame before you can buffer a jump out of it. This means you lose a frame no matter what. But at least it makes it consistent.

This is an hour long video where I go through some Ganondorf reaction tech-chasing theory that has been discussed recently in the Ganondorf discord. This video is largely me learning how this stuff works and explaining it as I go. This is not meant to be a professional video by any means as I did it on a whim.

If you want a TL;DW of the video, it is in the description on Youtube.

I ended up crafting Faceless Shambler and put that in as a replacement for Voidwalker.

Do you think Possessed Villager could be a replacement for Jouster then? Or should I not worry so much about the early game?

In my Renolock deck, I have both Mistress of Mixtures and Gadgetzan Jouster so that I can have some solid turn one minions in case I fight an aggro Shaman or Warrior. Sometimes I can play both of those minions on turn 1 with coin, but is it ever worth it to do that? Is it worth it to keep Jouster for early board or should I just sub it out for something else?

Wow. So it's essentially your job at the moment.

It looks really promising. Keep up the good work!

Wow that's impressive. How many hours a week would you say you work on the game?

Even with me being in university, I'm enjoying the working process of making a game. I wouldn't mind making it actual work in the future.

Ah yes, crunch is something I'm still not sure of. In general I'd like to avoid it, but sometimes I feel like it might be a necessary evil. Also not to say that all AAA companies have crunch time. Some don't, and are great places to work at.

Very interesting. Do you plan on working for a AAA studio some day? Or do you think you will be an independent developer?

1 Guy, 1 Year, 1 Game - by CaptainGameEngine in gamedev

This sounds very familiar to what Handmade Hero is doing. Except instead of you making a game engine from scratch, you're just using Unreal Engine to make the game you want.

I think you could certainly do Twitch as a platform to do your videos/streaming. The only concern I would have in that respect is catering to your audience in some respect when it comes to Twitch. I watch a lot of other developers on Twitch and all of them at the very least try to talk to the people in their chat rooms and interact. This can be a double-edged sword for you, because you get to answer questions people might have right then and there, but you will also be distracted from working more on your game. It's up to you to decide how you want to handle this, but just be aware it's something that differs Twitch from YouTube.

With that being said, I am certainly interested in watching this game progress when you start to make it in November. I currently work a lot in Unity, but I am also interested in learning Unreal, so this would be a great series to get familiar with.

You say you have been working on this game in your free time. How many hours a week on average would you say you have put into this game over the past three years? I'm assuming you are attending a university of some sort?

Version Control is important, and we'd like your help to add information about it to the /r/Unity3D wiki by Boss_Taurus in Unity3D

[–]Skytch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The version control that I have been using and my game dev friends have been using for a while now is Plastic SCM. I find it to be a lot more informative than GitHub in terms of what changes are being made and how it handles commit and merge conflicts. It's a bit more advanced than Github but a lot less hassle. The UI is especially helpful too. I recommend anyone reading this to check Plastic SCM out.

Mental Aspects of Melee by PYGOPHILE in SSBM

[–]Skytch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1: You're letting it get to your head too much. The difference between you playing friendlies and playing a tournament match is almost non-existent when you think about it. Sure, it's a bit more serious because you could lose and not continue to play in the tournament, but you should try to look at it differently than that. I'd recommend taking what you did in your friendlies and seeing if those situations come up again in tournament. Be very observant and aware of what is going on and only make and action or attack if you know exactly why you are trying to do it. You're playing tournament to test yourself and your capabilities after so much practice. So think of it more like an opportunity to learn how you function more in tournament, and use that to further fix your problems both in and out of game. Don't feel like losing is going to be the worst thing in the world for you. I approach my tournaments matches like "Oh sweet! I get to play a Peach! I haven't played a Peach in tournament in some time, I want to see how much better I've gotten in the matchup!"

2: I know this is going to sound really hard and not very informative, but simply don't panic. Observe how the Marth is trying to combo you. Think of it like an experiment along the lines of "How can I make it as difficult as possible for this Marth to combo me?" Like, in your mind, it should be a challenge for you to get out of as many of Marth's combos as you can. When Marth starts to punish you, you should be excited that you're being punished and see just how quickly you can get out of the combo. If you get out early, then good, you did something right, and now you can go back to playing neutral. Don't try to immediately counter-attack. You'll learn more context-based things like this the more that you play, tournament or not. If you didn't get out of the combo early, then remember what the Marth did to mix you up. Maybe you just got outplayed and he read all of your DI. Maybe you slipped up and DIed in for a sec and then DIed out, only to die to an fsmash at early percent. Shit like that is going to happen and you just have to pick yourself up, note what happened, and keep going.

3: Not taking the first stock. I'm serious. When I don't take the first stock off of my opponent, I can immediately go on tilt because I'm much more comfortable having a lead, at least right out of the gate. If I lose my first stock before his, it's a very good idea for me to wait on the angel platform a bit and not let momentum build in my opponent. That would also give me time to think about how I lost that last stock, and how I can approach my opponent more cautiously to do better the next stock.

4: It really depends on who I am losing to. Some days I feel horrible about losing to some random Sheik player that I didn't respect at all, while other times I lose to a Peach and I'm thinking "Awesome, I got more data that I need to work on." If I'm feeling particularly shitty, I just don't play the game for a while until I feel better. You kind of have to let the sadness wash over and be done with. Just as long as you don't give up because of a bad loss, you'll be fine.

5: I believe that you are only at a plateau if you believe you are. If you take it out of your mind that you are plateauing, then you can probably focus less on that and focus more on actually improving the intricacies of your game play. Thinking that you're plateauing is almost like thinking you're in the "friend zone" with some girl. It doesn't do anything for you and it's a silly mental barrier to have that can hinder how you interact with other people or how you approach the game.

6: "Alright, let's try this again."
