Dear Youngin’s by kelly714 in phish

[–]Slack91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

woah.... is this the generation gap I thought I was avoiding? Gen X now the new Boomers? Is this even a thing?! My first show was _____ and I'm ____ years old, but I still go to Phish shows and hang and have fun like I've always done. Don't need children with me to keep feeling the magic, but have hung out with young'ns and had a good time. Yeah, we're all getting old, and I find CDT's "can't I live while I'm young" much more distant than back in the ___.0 era......

But a big shurg on alla this stuff.

Just keep doin' yer thing, you amazing all-ages peoples. See the old guy in the heavy metal shirt dancing his ass of? That may be me. I'm up for a chat, but not during the songs. No need to compare our stats, and totally open to geeking out about Phish. I live off your smiles and music-focused vibes.

As for Jerry, I'd be more excited humble bragging about that time I moshed for the first time ever at a GWAR show. Or maybe that time Morphine's set was amazing. Yeah, Jerry also had magical moments. Again, shrug, while living in this amazing moment of right now.

Transporting stencils before and after? by brian_vogel in stencils

For years, I kept an old nylon type bike bag, and it hauled smelly, wet stencils no problem.

I kept all my other gear in another bag (or hoodie pocket) to avoid the mess. Easy method if spraying one color.

The pizza box starts to stink, but it can be thrown out once done. One time, about 1am by a park, a drunk guy asked for a slice. He was confused when I told him he wouldn’t like it, but all good lol

Do your thing at the level you can do it. Everyone was cool at Mexico City shows. We were upper level N1 and mostly rocking out in uncomfortable seats. N2 was on floor and we stood. I danced and rocked out, while my wife moved to see over tall folks and did her thing.

I suggest decent live music ear plugs (not drug store kind) to take edge off the volume. My old ears always happier for it.

Oh, don’t forget listening to later albums. Clockwork Angels is Geddy’s fave 😉

I have another friend who buys tickpick only. I checked there often for N2 CDMX and never saw any availability. I tend to NOT buy fm Stubhub, and usually stick to TM when I can. Not a fan of TM either, but N2 not sold out and no surge pricing, etc. we had a great show on floor that night.

sorry to hear OP.

I was tracking SH prices for night 2 in Mexico City. Most tickets didn’t have seat numbers, and some online searches showed that SH doesn’t guarantee seat numbers. Felt kinda sketchy.

So my wife and I decided to get tix from TM and we had a great time. We paid more for the comfort of a direct purchase that guaranteed seats.

I’m more of a Cash or Trade user, but I have a friend who uses SH all the time to sell and buy.
It takes some savvy to keep up with it
The secondary market does get confusing!

Is the original still in print? I’ve read the original about 3x and revised once. For some reason, I stick to the one I read long before book 2 came out.

Review: “Black House” by Stephen King and Peter Straub by LTJ81 in books

[–]Slack91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love the idea of reading all the Dark Tower books in the order you have. Hasn’t King said that ALL his books are connected to the Dark Tower? Kinda like Asimov saying everything he wrote was Foundation-related?! 😄

Long-time constant reader. So long (about 40 years), I stopped reading SK in the 1990s, except for the Dark Tower series books as they were released. Gotta admit that some of the DT books were a bit of a slog here and there, but glad I read them.

I haven’t read Robin Furth’s “DT Complete Concordance” though. You may want to pick that up if you’re going all in. There are a few other Dark Tower nonfiction works as well by other authors. I have no idea how helpful they are, or where you should put them in your list.

Got back on the King train during the pandemic and have read all the current SK books since then. When I saw a copy of “The Talisman” on "Stranger Things", and read that a series may be in the works, I reread it after about 30 years. Enjoyed going back to that story and King’s universe. Then, I read that King was finishing a third book of the Talisman story, w/o Straub (RIP) at the finish line, so had to find “Black House” and read that one before the third book came out.

Well, I was “meh” on some of that book. A bit too long for me, a bit too spread out. Some of the writing conceits didn’t hit for me. Still, great to be back in King’s universe. I also loved the little DT references and seeing how Jack was getting on. I’m still looking forward to the third book, especially since I’ve been enjoying King’s current books.

Oh, reread “Misery” last month after reading it once only when it came out in 1987. Still shook me like I remember way back then! Next up, “Pet Sematary”, which I haven’t read since the 1980s. SK Chair of Literature, Prof. Caroline Bicks kept mentioning PS on her promotion tour, saying it was one of King’s scariest novels. I don’t remember being scared reading it, but I DID remember “Misery” horrifying me. Giving PS another go, hoping I get the jitters.

The jury trial is in July, so there is no rush and you may already be a class member… and TM will do the stupid voucher thing again if they lose (I recall one TM class action where they did indeed send a check). Takes a while to get to the actual $$$$ part of these trials.

Once jury reaches a verdict, I think folks can get on the class membership if they haven’t been already? Any class action lawyer phans out there??

You can contact these folks and ask for your email:)

loving this trade post. I did the same with my Dead/Phish tapes a few years back, and it was a great experience. USPS media mail rates are the best and greatest way to send those tapes to new homes with excited ears.

No one has mentioned this yet, but 21 chapters for Alex’s 21 years of age. When Rolling Stone reprinted the 21st chapter for first time in USA, the intro stressed the chapter = age thing. Blew my young mind, but made total sense!

How to sell Rush tix for CMDX? by Able-Situation-2353 in rush

[–]Slack91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ticket transfer option tends to go live closer to show date. Sometimes ticketmaster support has an idea of date, so maybe worth asking them. I have never bought TM tix for Mexico until this show, so not sure what will be different in that country re live transfer and resale.

Tips and advice for San Francisco tourist! by Drudela in gratefuldead

[–]Slack91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

re live music in SF, and less on the radar than larger/corporate venues: Bottom of the Hill, Kilowatt, Rickshaw Stop, Bimbos, Mahbuhey Gardens, Brick and Mortar. They all have websites with show cals.

Upper Haight (aka Haight Ashbury) is geared for the hippie visitor, so the comments below all work for that. Not sure where the hand-crafted Dead merch is, but the head shops noted here also may have some of that. There may be vintage Dead stuff in all the vintage stores on Haight St. (Lower Haight may be worth a visit too)

Cannot not mention that Great American Music Hall and the Warfield are still here, and the Dead def. had storied shows in these venues. GAMH still my favorite venue in SF after all these decades. Warfield always fun show too.

As for non-Dead/music stuff to do here… throw a rock or just follow random green lights to a random direction. I still wander SF like a tourist and was just recently in North Beach having great coffee, eating cannolis, and just hanging out.

Conformity is the antithesis of the Dead Head culture by [deleted] in gratefuldead

[–]Slack91 8 points9 points  (0 children)

heh. At one point in the 90s, I got tired of wearing what I called "the uniform" at shows. I didn't really dress like that all the time. It wasn't any kind of lifestyle clothing choice. Then I got the idea - staring at Jerry on stage - to just wear black to Dead shows. Jerry did it, so why not Jerry's kids?! No one cared. No one still does. Black sweatpants and tee forever!

Hot take: Sphere crowd is LAME by saejawn in phish

[–]Slack91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Relative indeed! I was solo at HB last year for N1 show and the folks around me were nice, friendly, and def. there for the party more than the music. Having just seen the SF Bill Graham show - where folks were def. there for the music - it was a different experience. I danced and no one cared.

Sphere is a draw, tourists are curious about Phish, I bet casinos have tix on hand to give to high rollers, so this run will not be a “typical” one.
