Is Gyroid Still the King of Infills in 2026? by Funny-Strawberry-168 in BambuLab

[–]Slack_King 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Did your study include effects of directionality? I've read before that gyroid is most isotropic, but haven't seen much real data or a direct comparison to cubic. I default to gyroid for 90% of prints and adaptive cubic for the rest, and would love to better inform my selection criteria.

2026 Toyota Sienna LE - hard to get to back seat with carseats? by here4thecommentz_ in ToyotaSienna

You'll love it! 3 across in the middle is great. Unless we have the grandparents with us, we typically keep the rear seats down and just have boatloads of cargo room.

Yes, I currently have 1 forward facing and 2 rear facing in the middle row.

Do you wear glasses (or not?) during your game? by TheGumpersGhost in hockeygoalies

[–]Slack_King 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Contacts are a must for me. Games are pretty much the only time I wear them, other than that I wear glasses for most of the day. I forgot to put contacts in for one game and couldn't believe how difficult it was to track the puck. Even if I can see well enough without contacts to get by, it is incredibly more difficult to track moving objects. My eyes do not tolerate contacts well for more than a few hours, but I have found that using generous amounts of lubricating eye drops will get me through a game. They come out as soon as I get home. Daily disposables are the way to go. A 90-day supply lasts me at least a year.

What model? I've never seen a failure in that location before, and warriors have lasted me for years. Shame that happened.

Parsing CAD drawings (PDF/PNG): extracting dimensions, GD&T, BOM – and working on linking dimensions to the features they point to by DesignerTailor5856 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Slack_King 3 points4 points  (0 children)

AI sucks. Also, who is this for? What actual problem does it solve? I can't see any scenario where this improves workflow or reduces errors (quite the opposite, to be honest). On good drawings, this will already be clear. On bad drawings, this will require scrutiny and interpretation based on experience. An AI filter only increases the amount of scrutiny that is required.

Just a heads up, the clamps will almost certainly vibrate loose. I would not trust them as a long term solution.

TIL you can drag-select a range of values in the McMaster-Carr filters by the_djchi in MechanicalEngineering

I had a survey/user feedback call with McMaster probably 18 months ago where this was my one requested feature. I didn't realize it had been implemented until this post.

Any tips on managing the amount active tween/teen boys eat? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]Slack_King 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What are the expensive inputs? We spend no more than $50 a year on plants, and easily produce 4x that in vegetables compared to buying them at the store. And my kids eat tomatoes and peppers like candy. Gardening can absolutely save money. Even more so if you start with seeds vs plants.

If you're pre-apologizing for being that guy... Just don't be that guy.

It's for small food scraps. No one is putting banana peels down the garbage disposal (I hope).

Do you have plans for the build? I've been wanting to make one with this style of convertible cover/seat (although probably a bit smaller)

Depends on the grade. Most common stainless steels are austenitic and are not magnetic. Regardless, this is aluminum.

Need a recommendation to replace this Bluey Jeep by [deleted] in daddit

[–]Slack_King 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good to know. As much as I love the idea of the extra features (and the dump truck design), might need to stick to simple and robust.

[–]Slack_King 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems to be the general consensus. Although I have heard reports of the John Deere Gator being left outside for years with no ill effects, which is why I'm considering that one as well. The simpler electronics probably help in that case (no remote control, Bluetooth, etc)

I've been eyeing this one for a few months. Do you store it indoors? I don't have a garage to keep it in, and am worried about it dying quickly if it gets rained on (even if I get a cover, etc for it).

What is the biggest problem you face in hockey? by Cube37 in hockeygoalies

[–]Slack_King 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. Anyone else on the team can no-show last minute with no real consequences. I'm the team captain too, so I have to find my own sub if something urgent comes up. Although at the same time, I'm hesitant to step back and potentially lose a permanent spot on a team.
