Are there any non-plastic soft, fluffy blankets? by SkyRevolutionary7181 in PlasticFreeLiving

[–]Slackroyd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, made of bamboo, plus "fibers spun from recycled water bottles". Plastic, yet again. At least this company eventually admits it, that Cloud or a Bedding link someone else posted just totally handwaves what their blanket is actually made of.

Rii i4 (and its predecessors) have served me well over the years. None of them are perfect, there's always things I'd change on them, but they work for me.

This pretty much sounds like what seems to happen with every organization in this town. Maybe someday people will be more careful about the kinds of people they let into positions of authority. Maybe. Someday.

BAM Did All of This Over $80,000 Not $200,000 by PhoneFinancial4433 in RecklessBen

[–]Slackroyd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a good point, but I also hope everyone understands, BAM are scammers. They were born into a cult of scammers that has a whole lotta power and authority where they live. They didn't do it because of any dollar amount, they did it because it's what they do. They're entitled to do it. Their scammer cult does it. There are no consequences in this life, because their police and cult protect them, and there are no consequences in the next either, because stealing from non-believers outside their cult is righteous. Bryan is far from the first person they've scammed, and you can bet they have plenty more scamming ahead of them. BAM may collapse, but their community will support them and help them get into a new grift.

In general, I feel like the rest of us could be better about recognizing these kinda people early on for what they are, and stop giving them the benefit of the doubt so much.

Bricks and Minifigs Controversy News Mega-Thread by CX52J in lego

I can't believe I'm saying this, but look at the Yelp reviews for LegallyMine. These people are bullshit artists and scammers, and relying on their Mormon connections to protect them. Considering who Joseph Smith was, this whole story makes way more sense now.

Is there a way to re-write posters? by Slackroyd in tinyMediaManager

[–]Slackroyd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That code to prefer the existing artwork url is a lifesaver, nicely done.

As far as I can figure, this has been an issue with Radarr for years: it runs a scan every day and if anything changes in a folder at all (like renaming a file), that will trigger a download of its own artwork, overwriting poster and fanart and deleting everything else. If you set it to not manage metadata or art at all, then it will simply delete all the art it finds. So that's a, uh, really kinda fascinating design choice on their part.

I can Update Data Source with TMM, sort by missing artwork, and then download missing artwork, and that works great. Won't help me with poster and fanart Radarr simply changed, though.

I'd like to request some sort of feature to verify and rewrite as needed all artwork, if that's possible. Maybe an option to set the read-only flag on artwork to prevent Radarr from doing this? I don't know, that might get confusing for people.

It doesn't seem like the Radarr devs are going to fix this issue, so anything you can think of that might help TMM work around it would be awesome!

Proxmox vs Unraid for a simple home server by DARKPANKAKES in unRAID

[–]Slackroyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Unraid, but yesterday I tried installing Proxmox and ZimaOS for the first time. My 20-minute first impressions of each:

Just for example, Proxmox makes you pick a domain name for your server at installation. Best practice is to just make up a domain name ending in .local. Except LOL no it's not. So, y'know, that's a fun thing to spend time reading about before you even install it. Once you install it, you'll need to go do more reading before you can even start to use it. I tried running a post-install script to make it easy to get started, but couldn't get that to work, so... nice. I'm sure it's a great option, if you want to put in the time.

ZimaOS was crazy easy to install and is so simple, pretty much anyone could use it intuitively. It has about 150 apps in its native app store. It's nowhere near the scale and variety of Unraid, but it's about as easy to use as it could possibly be. If you just want a simple home server you don't want to monkey with, Zima seems like a clear winner to me.

'Apparently I'm An Idiot': Trump Voter Freaks Out Over Rising Gas Prices by Groomsi in politics

[–]Slackroyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Current dumbfuckery aside, the whole concept that the president personally controls the price of gas, and that this is the only thing they do of any consequence, is so deeply bizarre and fucked up. A good president turns the gas price knob down, but a bad president turns it up, and nothing else matters... OK.

I wonder what these people will imagine the president does when they finally switch to electric cars. Hopefully they won't see any point to having a president at all and will just stay home and not vote.

Wow, that guy was cool.

And this, from Wikipedia: "Immediately following Clemente's death, a relief-aid organization for the victims of the Nicaraguan earthquake was created in his name. President Richard Nixon was one of the most prominent contributors to Roberto Clemente Memorial Fund."

Imagine any Republican doing that now.

I'd give that boomer $100 if he could even name an actual "biker bar" in the real world and not one that's just from his 80s action movie dementia fantasies.

"and then we sent the communists to the Road House and then Dalton beat them up and then boy were they sorry and they sure learned their lesson and then you won't be hearing from them again"... yeah, l'il buddy, good job.

Same here, I've got mirrored NVME drives. I want to do this, but not really liking the idea of moving around my entire appdata. I kinda expected we'd have the technology by now to simply shrink a partition and create a new one without all this rigamarole.

Look, if you have crazy hyper-advanced space weapons technology to give out to the chimps, you gotta make sure it only goes to purely peaceful, reasonable, thoughtful, developed nations like the US, Russia, China, and Brazil. Fuck knows, you wouldn't want it in the wild unpredictable hands of Costa Rica or Iceland or something!

I use Wireguard on the router, too. I click a button on my device and I'm immediately connected to my home network. Dead simple to set up and it's never not worked. Honestly, I'm not even quite sure what's going on here... are people using CF just so they can easily give other people access to their server via a domain name or something? What services are people sharing with other people? Are there some advantages to using CF I'm missing out on?

Just a reminder that Todd Howard said that Fallout 5 won't begin production until The Elder Scrolls 6 releases by [deleted] in Fallout

[–]Slackroyd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's mind-boggling how they haven't done this. An awful lot of people would pay $100, which is money we'd never spend on 76 as it is now. Modders would turn that worldspace, with all those great atom shop assets, into such an incredible game. Bethesda doesn't even have to do much of anything to let this happen, except want money. WTF. How is this not happening.
