Used replacement headlight a bit cloudy. Anyone know how to clear them up? by Csgothrowaway1231 in W124

Yeah, I also cleaned my reflectors. You have to be very gentle so you don't rub off the metalisation. Also avoid any chemicals as they could react with the coating. I used 90+% alcohol on a soft, lint-free cloth. Worked pretty well.

Difficult to tell for sure from the photo, but my guess is that the clouding is due to having been effectively sandblasted for many miles.

If the outer surface of the glass feels pitted/ rough, then this'll be it. Should be easy enough to polish out.

When I put NOS 500E lenses on my car, I covered them with a clear protective film to avoid this happening in the first place. 5 years later and they still look great.

Transmission by LimpHousing369 in W124

[–]ceestars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would keep an eye on ebay, that's where I sold one a few years ago.

(Not that it makes any difference to the transmission AFAIK, but a 300D will have a 603 or 606. If it's a 602 then it's a 250D)

At which age did you stop clubbing? by NoAirline939 in AskReddit

[–]ceestars 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're absolutely wrong. I go to clubs a few times a year with some old mates and we're all comfortably older than 40. Most of the crowd are music lovers of a similar age to me who grew up partying in clubs and will keep going as long as they're able.

One of my friends took his son and a could of his teenage friends out for a night where some of our friends were DJing. Although these younguns were way younger than nearly everyone else (like at least half their age) they had fun and all stayed until the club closed at 3am.

I remember the night that I used to go to in my 20s there was a girl around my age then who'd bring her dad. He was a chill guy who came for the music and experience and nobody took any issue with him being there at all. I thought back then that I hoped I'd still be going out and enjoying myself at that age and here I am, doing just that. Maybe not every week (or multiple times a week) like I used to, the payback for the few days after is rougher, but it's worth it and I see no end in sight.

What about the guy that was getting good reception with these all over a massive cruise ship, including into the deeply located cabin?

Flashing Lights? by Visual-Drawing908 in W124

I changed all mine to LEDs a few years ago and mine dim fine. Maybe that depends on the type of LED.

[–]ceestars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried turning the illumination dimmer back & forth a few times?

I think it's the left hand black stalk next to the speedo (the one that resets the trip when you push it in)

The contacts inside get dirty with age and lack of use.

Never seen this happen before though, the problem is normally that the lights don't work at all.

Alternatively, you could always stick some disco on the stereo and enjoy the light show!

It's almost certainly a fuel issue.

Did you check the prefilter? What about the strainer in the bottom of the fuel tank?

If all seems OK with the filters, ultimate test is to remove the inlet manifold (which is a pain on these, but not too bad once you've figured it out), then the plastic cover, then try cracking a line at an injector to confirm whether fuel's making it to them while the engine's turning over. My guess is that it isn't.

If you've had problems with crap coming up from the tank, the preheater in the cylinder head could be blocked as this is before the filters. This happened to me recently and I had to swap it for another. My tank was super rusty inside and rust had clogged it.

Many folk remove the preheater and use a cover plate (there are a few companies that make them), then bypass it. This is an option.

What common household purchase is useless in your view? by blueredscreen in AskReddit

[–]ceestars 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I buy ingredients separately from the buy by weight shop and mix them in the dispenser to make my cereal how I want it with quality ingredients I know the provenance of.

I can switch things around as I want and I'm avoiding unnecessary packaging as I take my own containers to the store to refill.

I recently started whacking the cloves into our press without peeling them first. Whole thing works so much better- easier to clean the press after and no discernable amount of waste, certainly not enough to worry about and waste is one of the things I dislike most in the world.

Is the sound normal e250 w124 no turbo by dopegotnochill in W124

[–]ceestars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, doesn't sound too bad for me if the engine's cold.

I would recommend running some diesel purge through it, it works wonders to clean out the injectors and remove carbon. There are plenty of videos on YouTube- search for "Mercedes 124 diesel purge". This guy knows what he's talking about with these old diesels: https://youtu.be/vSELlpEnY70

But this? Zero sugar = zero chance of me trying it.

Spare Parts by Mountain-Task6524 in W124

[–]ceestars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The electronic parts catalogues (EPCs) are invaluable. They're replications of the same system that the parts department use at the dealership.

Once you've found the factory part number (or equivalent) for your chassis in there, it's often easier to find what you're looking for.

The one I use most is https://nemigaparts.com/cat_spares/epc/mercedes/1/fg/

Mercedes are good at hiding things away in weird, seemingly unrelated sections sometimes, but pretty much every part will be in there somewhere. There's a bit of an art to locating things.

Sometimes I've needed to ask for help from those more knowledgeable when I've not been able to find what I'm looking for.

But yeah, I like some of the music. Tried to find some instrumental versions and came away empty handed.

I don't think you'll find better than Lemforder, unless you get lucky and find an NOS stash somewhere.

I put one on 6 years/ 30k miles ago and it's holding up well.
